Me..listening or watching frm India..i hv seen these guys twice wen they come to India but with John schilltt..im searching for Christian rock songs frm the 80s n 90s..any suggestion.
@kitwarjri7086 check out MIlona Leffer and Broken Heart band. I'm sure I didn't spell it right. David and the Giants is also another great Christian band from the 80s. God bless you my friend ❤️
Such a breath of fresh air!! Radio tries to pasturize The Message, and Blood of Christ!! Every song sonds the same as if the producers get together and draw out a map of acceptable lyrics!
Yes and Amen i completely agree with you i have been a born again Christian since 1992 and today's luke warm christian music and worship music from evalation and bethel and hillsong are the wolves in sheep's clothing we are warned about
I grow up in my Christian Life with Petra! God save me in 1983. I threw out all my secular music and Petra became my favorite Christian Band and still is! Psalm 96:1 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Psalm 96 Read it all! Blessings. Josh!!
As a baby Christian I saw PETRA at a concert in Houston TX. It was awesome! The Holy Spirit made Himself present. We got caught in the Spirit. But it was when they played Judas Kiss that severely convicted me. And then Angel of Light that freed me from my 'baggage'! Thank you PETRA for following GOD!
This music is just as brilliant as the mainstream rock of its day. CCM now is just so watered down theologically that you don't know who the song is serving. Powerful message here that tells it how it is.
Wow. Perfect lyrics many years of ago from Petra. The bridge section has the most relevant lyrics for our time. It just goes to show me how relevant God's Word is for me.
Ahhh I remember listening to this whole album when I was a kid it was my autistic brother's who still has most of petra's album's it always calmed him down and we got to listen too, great song and great album!!
Greg did guest vocals on Come and Join Us. He sang lead on Washes Whiter Than, Never Say Die, More Power to Ya, Not of This World, Beat the System, and the live album Captured in Time and Space. He sang with Petra from roughly 1977 - February 1986. John Schlitt was the lead vocalist for the remainder of Petra's history as a band from that time on.
I'd argue that Bob was simply writing "better" songs during Greg X's tenure. Hearing John sing tunes from this era - "rose colored stain glass window" "judas kiss" "more power to ya" "beat the system" - its actually REALLY good, he sings them with skill & conviction. This era overshadows the songwriting on the later albums. Greg X seems incomparable, and he is spectacular, but it's that song for song, his tenure in the band was just THAT good. I almost wish they'da re-recorded a bunch of these tunes with John to showcase his talent - because other than a few great tunes that he did (maybe "seen and not heard" or "somebody's gonna praise his name" for example), John's tenure is way overshadowed by how great "Greg's songs" still are to this day!
I remember installing aluminum siding in 30° to this album. The Lord delivered me from NJ to Florida. These days it's vinyl siding in 90° to the Newsboys. Still love Petra
I have this song playing in a screenplay of mine titled Gorgeous Dark... In the movie this song is almost 70 years old. The movie is set in the year 2051.
I think I had this LP In junior high and I did see them 2 times. Brings back memories. Today's Christian music is good but Petra paved the way. I wish I could remember the other band I seen with petra all I think is it began with an S back in the early 80s.
@GambiBeats Greg statrted singing with Petra on their second album; "Come & Join Us", and continued til' the release of the live album "Captured in Time & Space". So that includes "Come & Join Us" (shared vocals with Hartman & Hough as well as Frazier & Camp) "Washes Whiter Than" (Shared with Rob Frazier) "Never Say Die" (assumes the role of Lead Vocalists) "More Power To Ya'" "Not of This World" "Beat the System" & "Captured In Time & Space" Then he left and started doing solo albums.
Yeah, Greg sings on this album, and the next one if I'm not mistaken. A good raw sound before Petra toyed with the over digitalization. Always was my favorite album from them.
City lights are flashing, they call you to the streets Hearts are filled with passion in everyone you meet The Boulevard is waiting, it wants to get you high Neon signs are waiting to sell you anything you want to buy But I know your devices, it shouldn't seem so odd You lied from the beginning, I see through your facade
I had a situation yesterday that threw me off and upset me against two of my church friends. I felt bad about my response and guilt started to set. I'm supposed to turn the other cheek. So I repented. Yet I felt condemned. And GOD put Angel of Light in my mind. So I played it. I understood then that it was the evil Satanic Devil who was messing with me. I rebuked him in JESUS NAME and by THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT claiming that There's No Guilt For Those Who Are In CHRIST JESUS!!! Thank you Lord! Jesus Jesus
This song is the answer to Journey's song Don't Stop Believing. It reveals all of those lies for what they are. And you know what? DO stop believing that satan's system and all of his disgusting "treats" are going to satisfy your emptiness. Only Christ will make you Truly Secure!
One of the first groups I started listening to in the early 80's. Maybe someone here will know I am not sure it was a Petra song but there was one that they used to play at the christian skate it started out with the sound of thunder and lightening can't find it anywhere
Such nostalgia. I'm an atheist (which is a relevant statement because of this song and the bands' themes) but this was one my favorite songs as a kid. I remember spending hours trying figure out that guitar solo. Also I think the use of jazz chords and synths in this otherwise quite bluesy rock song is cool :)
Petra was one of my favourite bands when I was a kid as well. Where I live people aren't christian so I'm not one, but the music built around the mythology is pretty cool. May Odin bless your path!
They are getting back together again... Go rto facebook and type in - Classic Petra - and you will get to their FB page. Greg X. Volz is back as lead singer and it is all the original band members. The Tour is called "Classic Petra: BACK TO THE ROCK"
- 2 Corinthians 11:14 - And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. - 2 Peter 1:19 - We have also a more sure word of prophecy in (Christ Jesus); whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
Amazing music. They were right to the point, they could preach your the scripture all the while playing fantastic rock. The one thing they pulled off better then anyone then was they had such good meaningful lyrics, and their music was up to par rather then a lot of the dry sounding Christian music of those days. With Gods help they made the gospel more real to people, in great music.
this seems a little more hard rock and progressive than some of the other songs on this album. the synthesizer makes it sound more 80s than the 70s vibe of other songs
Hey Everyone!, Petra kicks butt fo sho...Petra forever! I just wanted to recommend something just a little different but with a rock beat to it as the tempo.. Change your life again again.. so Super sweet too. . Check out christian worship leader: 'STEVE SWANSON' Albums called: (Prepare the way of the Lord) - all these songs kick butt a major blessing. Annd, (No More Delay). All these songs too the same NICE... especially that song called: 'Fire in my Bones' super cool.
@@prisonerohope6970 Gosh I am sorry I missed your post. I really want there to be a God. I have prayed to Him in three languages but I never received any reply. I therefore choose to follow the evangelical parts of Scripture: you are free, and God's love extends even to Satan. Satan is God's prosecutor. Nothing exists that does not serve God.
How many of my brother's and sister's are still rocking to great Christian music in 2024?
Me..listening or watching frm India..i hv seen these guys twice wen they come to India but with John schilltt..im searching for Christian rock songs frm the 80s n 90s..any suggestion.
I am, brother. You don't need apostrophes ever. Seek the redeemer. Diacritical marks and translations have nothing to do with Him.
@kitwarjri7086 check out MIlona Leffer and Broken Heart band. I'm sure I didn't spell it right. David and the Giants is also another great Christian band from the 80s. God bless you my friend ❤️
This is a far cry from the homogenized fare on christian radio today. Creative and inspirational lyrics and music that is both artistic and Godly.
Such a breath of fresh air!! Radio tries to pasturize The Message, and Blood of Christ!! Every song sonds the same as if the producers get together and draw out a map of acceptable lyrics!
Yes and Amen i completely agree with you i have been a born again Christian since 1992 and today's luke warm christian music and worship music from evalation and bethel and hillsong are the wolves in sheep's clothing we are warned about
True this was a ministry ❤❤❤❤❤
I grow up in my Christian Life with Petra! God save me in 1983. I threw out all my secular music and Petra became my favorite Christian Band and still is!

Thank you for posting these classics. I grew in the Lord when I first got saved listening to this album. Petra never sold out--great witness.
One of the earliest Petra songs I heard in the 80s which helped lead me to Christ. Never have forgotten it.
Such a beautiful song
WOOO Christian classic rock. this ROCKS💙💙👍🌞💛
I have this album, my dad got it when he was younger and now I listen to it and I'm 16.
My Mom got me this album 4 years ago and I'm in my 20s. If ANYONE tries to tell you Rock and Gospel can't be married play this album for them
Petra is gonna rock another generation with their new album!!
This music is just as brilliant as the mainstream rock of its day. CCM now is just so watered down theologically that you don't know who the song is serving. Powerful message here that tells it how it is.
excelente¡¡¡¡¡¡ para los que escuchamos petra en los 80s¡¡¡¡ lo mejor de musica cristiana
Long live Petra! A truely awesome christian band

I rediscovered them :-) And enjoying their music all over again. And you don't have to be a Christian to like this music...
I love this tune. If you have the Holy Spirit, you can see through the disguise and triumph.
Amen God bless you
James Edgar petra rocks for the real rock do not stop
christians seem to see through the virus takeover agenda.

Petra is AWESOME.
my favorite petra album.
Just learned this on guitar now I’m rocking
LOL I was humming this song at work today. I needed a break from the world we all live in today..
Fantastic song! So nostalgic too!
Always loved the guitar-ship-vehicle/spaceship art from Never Say Die, More Power To Ya, and Not Of This World.
One of the best Petra songs ever!
The Petra lyrics say it all.
Love this group.
Privileged to have witnessed them live in Bangalore, India so many years ago.
This is a classic song that I used to listen to in the 80’s . It sadly describes the state of America 🇺🇸 right now.
Wether you believe or not this is one helluva good piece of music!
me and my friend are paying this and so far its been awesome.
I have this song playing in a screenplay of mine titled Gorgeous Dark... In the movie this song is almost 70 years old. The movie is set in the year 2051.
+Ronnyi GUy Link please
Isso que e rock eu gosto muito desta musica

Are you thinking of Stryper?
Petra opened for Servent in about 1984! I was there.
Maranatha 🙏🏽✝️

This song has an Eagles vibe about it, with a much better message

I always think of this song when I go to the mall.
We all have our times

I listened to this stuff when I was like idk 8, 9, 10, 11. I liked it then. but listening to it now haha it kinda has an eagles/foreigner vibe to it
Long live Petra.
Love those harmonies (harmonys?) eh, whatever THAY SING REEEL GOOD LIKE!!!

the first song that comes to mind from back then is one by Rez Band, but it's a slow song so probably not something good for skating.
Truth.Jesus Reigns! Amen.

Hey J. A. How is it going....sure would like to see you in heaven in the end man :)
you need a shot of MAGIC MIRROR
John Appleseed Ditto..
Me too, man. I still love Petra with all my heart.
Petra was one of my favourite bands when I was a kid as well. Where I live people aren't christian so I'm not one, but the music built around the mythology is pretty cool. May Odin bless your path!
2 Corinthians 11:14
New King James Version (NKJV)
14 "And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light."
He is still only a mirror of God's brilliance...and that was before he tried to usurp Him!
I cant believe what he did. But my brother Micha-EL did what was right! The Fathers eyes blaze like fire!
Awsome
4 dislikers dont know the meaning of this awesome song.
They are getting back together again... Go rto facebook and type in - Classic Petra - and you will get to their FB page. Greg X. Volz is back as lead singer and it is all the original band members. The Tour is called "Classic Petra: BACK TO THE ROCK"
A+
@azzyandlexie The album is really good to and he still has the pipes
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
So True!
I seen them in Concert 2 times in the 1980's
This Song Is Kinda Rockin' I Cant Play It On My Guitar That's For Sure!
love those solos. I wish there was an Instrumental of this song.
But the lyrics are sooooo good
I seem to remember hearing this in a movie recently. I must be going crazy.
priceless
i like it its rock and roll because petra means rock
So much truth it's almost scary.
que buenos tiempos, soy mas del petra con John Schlitt pero greg es increible tambien
2022 and PETRA
mhm.... good christian classic. Heck yah!!
Petra Means Rock 2020
Dear Petra...thanks for getting me beat up for the entirety of grades 5 and 6. 😂
CAN YOU MAKE THIS SONG INTO KARAOKE WITH BACKING VOCALS
- 2 Corinthians 11:14 - And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
- 2 Peter 1:19 - We have also a more sure word of prophecy in (Christ Jesus); whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
If it were possible even the elect would be decieved.
And Mark Kelly played bass.
@evilunixuser1 for me just the other way around. but the are both amazing period
You do know Greg played drums on this album and Bob play gutiar, bass, and keys.
Don't know who told you that, but they were incorrect. Keith Edwards played drums, Mark Kelly played bass, and John Slick played keys.
This band is the Best. Bob Hartman and Greg X. V. Made that band
this seems a little more hard rock and progressive than some of the other songs on this album. the synthesizer makes it sound more 80s than the 70s vibe of other songs
I am lost and need prayer,
Praying for you 🙏
Restore faith in thoses that dont believe
Is it just me or does the chorus resemble the song Victim of Love by Eagles.
@gill73115 They're touring this fall
Petra does not tickle the ears...
Agree
yeah buddy
I looked this up.....it says that Keith Edwards played drums.
@TimfromMKE who is touring?? petrra?? i thought they had quitted??
1981 more like 2024
The time is upon us Brothers & Sisters!
I'm getting a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd vibes from this song lol.
Me too. I immediately thought of Gimme three steps while listening to this song.
petra gra fajna muze
Hey Everyone!, Petra kicks butt fo sho...Petra forever!

especially that song called: 'Fire in my Bones' super cool.
UFOs in the sky? This song explains exactly what they are.
This song changed my adolescence. Though I now I disagree with it, it marked me forever.
How so? How do you disagree, if you don't mind my asking?
