As a musician this song is so amazingly arranged. Tait sets the table and Toby is silky smooth in his part and the point counter point with Tait is sweet. Kevin nails that chorus with a little help from Tait and Toby. One of my favorite songs of all time.

I think this song was written to confront the prosperity gospel preachers so very prevalent today in Evangelical circles. Their shallow message disheartened me to the point where I was about to abandon my faith. But I repented.

Thank you God for this band. It helped me to become openly Christian in a time where it wasn't cool, and people were made fun of.for that, and largely ostracized by their peers. Thank you for not deserting although I denied you in my youth. It's interesting that this type of coming out is never talked about or recognized, but society applauds coming out as LGBTQ. Our modern society applauds evil and hates good. Christians are hated. As the Bible says in the last days good will become evil, and evil will become good.

My absolute favorite! Attended the "Freakshow" concert (4th row) in NJ. We took our 2 grade school kids with us. During the hour-long drive to the venue we had decided we wouldn't tell them where we were going and surprise them. As soon as my 10 year old son saw a vendor with t-shirts, he performed his own "Freakshow" with excitement right there in the lobby! Then he wouldn't sit throughout the whole concert. Today both of our children are in their 30s and have the "Jesus Freak" playlist on their phones. Kevin had the "nerve" to ask the audience to excuse his voice because he was recovering from a cold. I thought "Absolutely not! I've been waiting too long to hear one of the most identifiable voices in Christian music!" LOL
Kev has that amazing voice u can't forget.

Ooooh yeah. This describes much of what we see in Evangelastic Christianity today. TV and radio evangelists. Sad to think of how their reduce sincere Christians to fodder for ridicule and laughter. Need to pray for them..wisdom and love of God

Its hard to witness to old friends thats seen me in my addiction and chaos.All I can do is pray for em..
I purchased this CD after leaving rehab many years ago. I was a hard rocking alcoholic. These songs helped me to continue my sober path. My daughter 15 yrs. old got in the car today, and put on a Christian song. I said look up Jesus Freak, and that is how I'm on their channel today.
Matthew don’t let what happened in your past deter you from what you can do in your future. With God you have overcome the things in your past. Use it to your advantage. You understand addiction and there are those who are currently battling addiction that need Jesus who can relate with what you went through. I know I don’t know you but I’m proud of you for overcoming addiction and even if you still struggle I’m still proud that you are working towards a better version of yourself.

2 years ago I saw Toby Mac live in concert here at The showware center still to this day it was my favorite concert I've ever been to and the best concert I've ever been to.

I should take note that you should feel EXTRA honored because South Africa is not only where Tobymac wrote the lyrics for 'Jesus Freak', but he says that he tried out the chorus on the audience at a gig there before he was even finished WRITING the song!

Brothers thanks for the great music.Today my life felt like i wanted it to end.Complications between seizures & diabetes made me so depressed I i didnt feel like i even matter.Almost took some extra insulin.As i came across your songs here,i listened over n over.Many tears were there.I was hearing some lyrics that made me think maybe Gods got plans for me that im not aware of yet.Prayers for strength would be appreciated.

In middle school our youth group took us to see DC Talk at reunion arena in Dallas. It was the Jesus Freak tour. We were in the nose bleeds. I couldn’t say which member it was that did a stage dive, but when he got back on stage he was short a shoe. He asked if the crowd could get it back up to him. They waited for a bit and the crowd started chanting “GIVE IT BACK!” I think he said something about it being really important because it had a prescription insole in it.
When the concert was over we met the rest of the youth group back at the bus. They did a quick headcount and 1 was missing. About the time we figured out who was missing the boy came scampering up the bus steps in a really weird posture. He was all hunched over and avoiding the gaze of all the chaperones as he scrambled to the back of the bus.
Once he was safe in the back of the bus he was giddy. We asked him what his deal was. He said that he had snuck down from the nosebleeds and made his way down to the “mosh pit”.
We were like no way, how would you have gotten passed all the security?
He said fine I’ll prove it! I got his FLIPPIN’ SHOE!
He pulled the shoe out from under his shirt and held it up for everyone at the back of the bus to see. We joked about writing the singer letters from his shoe or even a block letter ransom note. That kid was a mid nineties Dennis the menace.
