From somebody that never had faith in religion (me ) in hearing that Toby lost his son and how he was able to focus his energy on his faith system help me understand that having a faith system would helped me in a time of hopelessness. It's worth taking a look at the Gospel.

Awww mama, I am sorry. I struggled *for years* with opioids, (pills, no heroin.) I have been clean for 8 years now. It was a *struggle* but I always try and share this small piece of wisdom that helped me a lot….
When the time comes & they start their journey with recovery (whether it be a choice or ultimatum,) reminding him/her *that the deep since of apathy* that is typically felt in the early days of recovery, the depression, mental and physical torment… etc …. All of these unpleasant emotions can linger for some time, but they *do NOT last forever.* so many overwhelming emotions come on in full force but its temporary. The brain *can* repair itself with time & work, the reward system (that is altered during drug use) can be re-wired, this dark void *doesn’t last forever*. For me personally, Leaning on the science of how our brain can be re-wired back to “normal” (tho it’s more complex than that, but brain changes do happen during addiction & recovery!) But the science behind addiction & recovery was pivotal for me. TEDtalks we’re also really helpful to help me understand these things on a deeper level that was interesting & captivating. I wish you and your family the best of luck, I am rooting for you kid!
(And I’m sorry, I know you didn’t exactly ask for any advice, I just couldn’t help but leave a comment letting you know that you’re not alone and that people out there, such as myself- who don’t even know your family, are rooting for ya!)❤️❤️

This is still so sad. Tobymac is legit an OG and pioneer of modern Christian music. Some people might think it's cheesy or too "pop" but since his days in DCTalk the man walks the walk. His strength as a man and a father is inspiring. Can't help but get teary eyed. Losing a family never gets easier but with the Holy Spirit and assurance that Christ is there makes the journey more manageable. Even when the days get tough and you can't seem to shake the pain God is there and ready to hear us and embrace us giving joy and peace in the middle of our sorrow.

The fact that He said “God is kind” is nothing but the Holy Spirit. Human beings alone cannot do that by themselves after something like the loss of a child. Toby is a man of God, he is. And when you walk with God & you give your life to Him & things go terribly south in your life.. there’s gonna be many moments when you’re gonna be able to look at God and say, “You are still good.” God’s comfort is like no other.

      Oye. Now words.
If its okay, id like to share a story.
I know someone at my church, by the name of Cheryl. Shes a wonderful lady & shes got a big family. Just a house full of laughter & warmth & scriptures verses all over the place. Doors, walls, kitchen cabinets lol. Just a lot of love.
Well, she lost her daughter, who was a dear friend of mine to addiction. She suffered on earth at the hands of her criminal demon father. The pain and the damage he caused was um… irrevocable. He was the root cause of her mental disorders, addictions, inability to function as a successful adult/parent. His sexual abuse scarred her and I honestly hope hes in hell. Burning alive & without end, is all i can say. I have a lot of grace for much, but not for him. Sorry. Not with all the suffering he caused. Hes a psychopath.
Now, i cant imagine how much this mother has gone through on her grief journey.. but i can tell you this. I see joy on her face & i see Christ in her. His Spirit is all around her & in the home. Hes everywhere. I dont know how the family is dealing, but i do know them enough to know that that is what i see. I briefly met Toby in 2008 and he was absolutely one of the most humble, down-to-earth, genuine and kind people I have ever met. Hearing him open up about TruDog is incredibly touching. His honesty and transparency reminds us that God doesn’t demand that we have perfect faith, 24/7. All He asks is that we, like Toby said, give Him a chance. His grace is sufficient and His strength is made perfect in our weakness. For anyone who has experienced something deeply painful, it’s ok to not be ok, and it’s ok to be a work in progress. We will have our ups and downs, and we may even feel like giving up, but God is unfathomably patient and He is vastly rich in mercy.

During a period of life when I experienced so much pain and tragedy that I wasn't going to church because I didn't want to be asked how I was and have to either fake a smile or breakdown if I told the truth, I listened to Toby's music and saw him every time he came to Arizona. His shows are unlike anything else. When I was so weak and was struggling in faith where it was hard to even talk to God, being at his concerts with the energy and unity in him and his crowds, I felt strong. I felt healing. I would rejoice and thank God and wonder if the exuberant, unified, diverse people on stage and in his crowds were a glimpse of what Heaven is like. When those who knew me asked me what church I was going to, I joked that I go to the church of Toby Mac, but it wasn't really a joke. He kept the line of communication between me and God open. God has used him in amazing ways. Knowing the person he is and how much he my loved his son, I cried hard when I heard he died.

Love Tobymac. We lost our 38week baby boy in August while at the hospital, shortly before being induced. When he says “are you sure?” and “are they sure?” I remember I didn’t believe it. Total shock when they told me there was no heartbeat, when there was a heartbeat not 5 hours before. And then I had to give birth to him, even though I knew I would never hear his sweet cry.
I remember afterwards one of Toby’s songs came on, just a few days later, driving home in the car with my husband. And I said “Toby lost his son too, and he wrote this song.”
We didn’t get 21 years, we only got 38 weeks and 3 days with our boy. But the pain of losing a child is like nothing else.

I remember growing up seeing and hearing truett on all of his albums and it was cool to hear his voice change. I always thought it was cute how Toby would let truett do a little rap in all of his albums. I was like 9yrs old The first time I saw truett was on the making of DcTalk supernatural album and toby was really happy introducing him to the fans. I saw Toby Mac for the first time when I was 19yrs old and he had a pastor preaching and my life change that night. Seeing toby Mac lose his son is very sad and still is sad. I never met truett in person but I grew up listening to Toby’s albums and I always looked forward to hear truett do his thing. Toby Mac is my favorite Christian artist, he’s always been funky and fun to listen to, so when I heard the news, it really hit home. @lex jayke There’s sin all over this world and it’s our sinful nature to want to partake. It’s God’s free will to want his everlasting grace. It’s supernatural but maybe he saved my brother from further suffering. And it is called faith for a reason. Believing in the unseen. u most have a small mind

I feel the pain in the voice of Kevin Michael McKeehan aka Tobymac. Losing an son or daughter to drug overdose or any other situation is heartbreaking. GOD may you give him comfort in his loss.

Toby was my guy going back to dc Talk. His style was so unique and it changed with time. I also loved how he always pushed the limits of music style for the contemporary Christian music stations.
Hearing about his loss was pretty awful. I'm glad he's speaking out through, this is the personal nightmare all of us parents have with our kids. The dangers of drugs are so real, even if it's just an experiment. I just lost my dad and hearing toby talk about his journey dealing with the death of a loved one was very meaningful to me.
