    You could do a whole week on just Animal Collective songs. The songs aren't always hits but they are always interesting. And the ones that do hit? Oh boy. Amazing tracks.

      The Purple Bottle is 'straightforward' by the bands standards, The Burglars is absolutely mental.

    This band is definitely known as being one of the craziest vocal groups out there with their weird psychedlicized harmonies. Each of them has a bunch of solo material and collaborations as well that does demonstrate their other talents.

    You nailed it by saying this is childish. Animal Collective is all about combining the youthful energy and fun with adult thoughts and burdens. And their music does (usually) have a deceptively simple stuff going on. Fucking shoutout to Amanda. Idk who you are, but ya did good with this recommendation. Love Animal Collective, second favorite band of all time. Wildly creative, changing sound with every damn album. Everything they released up to Centipede Hz is pretty much gold.
    I'd HIGHLY recommend listening to their song Alvin Row (really, I recommend their albums, but Alvin Row really showcases their experimentation, awesome composition, playfulness with pop form, noise, concept, etc. It's kind of their mission statement song, off their very first album.

    (this era and the Sung Tongs era's vocals bite heavily from The Residents' Eskimo album, not gonna lie)

    This was the first track by Animal Collective I ever heard. A friend showed it to me back in 2006 when I was 14 years old. It blew me away and change my perspective of music forever. Still one of my favorite bands of all time, but definitely not for everyone!

    AC is my favorite band. I love looking for reaction videos of em on RUclips. But I really loved how thoughtful, thorough, and open-minded you were. Somebody else said it better in the comments, Animal Collective's music can be deceptively simple, but your lengthy read on the broad concept of the album from just one song was pretty dope. I really really hope you check out other songs of theirs from other albums they have. They're such a diverse band. I'm certainly gonna check out more videos of yours.

    Thank you so much for whoever recommended this, it's definitely my favorite animal collective song. And I absolutely agree that the album artwork is fantastic. If you wanted to classify the genre of the song, I think it's considered "freak-folk"
    There is a lot of repetitiveness in the track, but thats a lot of what makes Animal Collective's sound great imo, they use repetition a lot to bring an amazing sense of transcendence (they do this incredibly well with the song Daily Routine as well, really the whole album Merriweather Post Pavilion is a transcendental masterpiece)

    Heard of Animal Collective but this is my first time hearing them. Really interesting track. At first I thought that this was just going to be a typical indie rock track from a band that went more for quirk and tone than musicality, but as it kept going and kept changing and adding a lot of musical layers the more I found myself impressed and entertained by what was going on. This is definitely one I feel I could listen to a few times and keep peeling back layers of everything going on, and yet the same time it's still quite accessible. There's still something in the tonal "quirkiness" that turns me off, but that's probably just because of my association of those elements with bands that try to make it on personality alone.

    Thank you for talking about Animal Collective! They are definitely my cup of tea, but I like unconventional brews 🙂. Avey Tare (David Portner), the singer/songwriter, wrote this for his then-wife, Kria. She's a musician also, but the relationship didn't last. I love how imperfectly-perfect the songs are in their own cocoons, the layers are really fun to explore.

  • @enjoiandrew4

    Regarding the ending anlysis of the lyrics; the lead singer who wrote many of the songs was married to the woman who played piano on this album at the time. They have since divorced but they released a duo album called "pullhair rubeye" - Avey tare & kria brekkan, which is like a much more stripped back version of this album. Unfortunately, they released the album in reverse so not many people have had the chance to enjoy one of my favorite records.

  • @graham_copp
    @graham_copp Год назад +4

    At that time they used to develop their songs by writing the outline and then jamming them on tour until they got the final thing. It really shows on songs like the purple bottle and it’s why it has that jam sound.

    a lot of the songs on the album Feels have a folky feeling, but theyre all so different but also cohesive?? every album has its own disticnt sound and vibe, but each song is so unique in and of itself. Animal Collective makes no sense and all the sense at the same time and it wrecks my brain but i love it.
