The video game "addiction" argument always cracks me up, before videogames was TV, before TV people couldn't books down, etc. I remember as a kid my parents wouldn't stop watching TV. These products are not the issue, the issue is how people use them.

The funniest part of this is the mom who "lost her kids to fortnite" like she couldn't just, idk, talk to them? Set limits on gaming? Spend more time doing fun things together? Play Fortnite with them? Keep the game systems in the living room so they don't "disappear"? Seriously be a parent and don't blame the game. I'm a teacher and one of my student's parents asked me to forbid the other students from playing fortnite at home. I just looked at her and then had to explain to her that we (the school) can't do that because it's not really a school issue...

Then you don't have the disorder...it is like any other kind of disorder (substance abuse, gambling etc) if you do it so frequently and in a way that it negatively affects your life, it can be a disorder. If you play games and it doesn't negatively affect anything in your life, no disorder. Most people play video games and it doesn't cause negative consequences in life, so their game playing is not a disorder...there are some people whose game playing behavior is disordered. Just like drinking booze, tons of people drink with no long term negative or life damaging consequences, but then some people drink in a way that ruins their lives, making their drinking alcoholic.
I'm not sure how legit it is, but people seem to be confused about the basic concept and think that "gaming disorder" means all gaming is a disorder.

I'm a parent, my kids are gamers and I'm also a gamer (since I was 5 years old) and all I can say is: OMG LEARN TO USE PARENTAL CONTROLS! Geez... I get sick of parents blaming video games when there's reasons to prevent things like voice chat and spending 12+ hours per day on a game. My kids can't get on voice chat, can't accept friends requests and are allowed max of 3 hours a day of gaming (will get more if they have been very good specially with their school work).
Really want parents to just friggin research the consoles they buy before moaning and bitching.

Parental controls are for parents that can't watch their kids. You wouldn't need parental controls if you actually would trust your kids and actually watch over them when they play video games.
Spanky Pants I’m a single parent I can’t constantly watch my children. I do however keep checking in on them. And no parental controls are NOT for that. They are to keep kids safe and put parents minds at ease. I want my son to show off his creative skills on Minecraft but I also don’t want him inviting random people to his world, so parental controls let me prevent certain things.

Jaren Frandsen Same. I get kinda tired of hearing about Fortnite all the time but of course these things come and go. Just like with Pokemon Go, I never played it and the hyped only lasted a short time. It drives me nuts still hearing how parents are so outraged about games when they just need to put time limits on their kids gaming. That's really all it is. If you ask me it's the parents fault for letting them play it all day if that's the problem lol

But it's not just parents, just idiots who don't care about their kids. My parents didn't have this problem with games. In fact, some time after I asked my dad for help with certain games, I woke up to find him playing the games himself without me asking. Not every parent is like that.
