In my primary school, I used a fidget spinner because of mental health. They banned fidget spinners, and they didn't let me use mine, even with my condition. This is where overreactions go too far.

Fidget spinners were designed to help kids *focus* Personally, I find it easier to concentrate on things while I'm doing something with my hands. One reason I like oragami.

Fidget cubes and spinners can be taken away from your child. Even if the doctor of the child tells you they should have it with them. While I was still in school my therapist told me to have a cube with me for problems i was having. It helped me focus of my work. Then it became the crazy so I ended up getting suspended for giving the schools nurse a letter from therapist stating to have it with me for the reasons he gave.

A long time ago back when I was young and in school, the reasoning for banning toys like this and yugioh cards is because school systems, like mine anyway, are already really cramped for time to teach everything that needs to be taught and teachers did not want anything that could even remotely distract any student from focusing only on the work they were given.
You have no idea how disappointed i was when i walked upstairs, and saw both of my brothers making lego fidget spinners.

Angelh 103 funny thing is that they were made in the 90's.
I don't know how it was in other schools, but when I was 7th grade, the total obsession over these things was indeed a huge disruption. At the very least, it was incredibly obnoxious. Kids constantly taking them out and not doing work, guys crowding around air dryers with them to the point of blocking the bathroom entrance/exit, people who took themselves too seriously trying to "sell" their spinners for like 10x what they paid for it (there was also a kid who sold "smoke bombs" in the library, which was literally just wadded paper balls that he insisted were actual smoke bombs), and of course the constant talk about fidget spinner this and fidget spinner that.
I've always found these fads really annoying, personally. I've never gotten the appeal, each one just seems dumb and is annoying to constantly see/hear about. It's a shame in this case, given that fidget spinners are meant to help specific people, but the masses ruined it for the sake of a bandwagon.
Then again, my middle school was full of really nasty students, so maybe it was just an edge case.

I think the only reason Fidget spinners are getting taken away at my school is that kids are idiots with them. Like spinning them as fast as they can and the shoving it in a students face to scratch them. Oh, also someone brought a ninja star one that was actually sharp. I'm glad that I graduated high school in 2015 and didn't buy a fidget spinner when I was at JoAnn fabrics. I learned later that fidget spinners were dangerous, because the middle can be popped out and the ball bearings also contained lead
i only ever had one fidget spinner which was from my sister when she got back from Australia (side note it had the native animals on it which i liked)

Lord Quagsire to me it seems they are drawing a correlation between the distraction of people drawn to the fidget spinner, not meaning that they are similar in an entertainment fasion. I can see it from their perspective, as just as pokemon cards were banned once, for causing disruptions in class, between showing off and trading the cards, it's an almost identical issue

The weird popularity of fidget spinners is cringey, but schools being upset over them is a whole new level of cringiness.
But it is to be expected.
I can see why it's popular, they're made for kids with attention issues, I'd buy one simply because I have stress and anxiety, and having things to fidget with in my hands helps, because if I don't have something, I usually rip and tear into my fingers due to stress, and it's not easy to just tell someone with attention problems and stress problems to just not do that stuff...mental handicaps don't work like that.
