What a coincidence I've seen this video now! I've just defeated Misty in HeartGold and Soulsilver! Answer to the question: I've used Ampharos and Victreebel to defeat Misty! I swept her entire team (Except Quagsire that I took it down with my Victreebel by using Leaf Storm!) with Ampharos. I used Thunderbolt and Discharge substantially to defeat her team. Against her Starmie, I used Signal Beam which Ampharos also had. And I defeated her! I also remember when fighting against her in FireRed! I had a Pikachu and a Charmeleon, I took her Staryu down with my Pikachu. Then, I dropped her Starmie's HP really low, but it took my Pikachu down! Then, I sent Charmeleon out and she used a Super Potion before I used Mega Punch. That halved Starmie's HP. It used Water Pulse and my Charmeleon dropped to 10 HP. Then I used Mega Punch again and took it down! That was tough as I had 4 failed attempts and I managed to beat her in my 5th attempt!
All fanboying and fangirling aside, Misty is probably one of the most powerful gym leaders in Kanto and Johto. Even in Yellow if you haven't acquired Bulbasaur yet, her Starmie can be powerful enough to take down your Pikachu in two to three hits and if you're playing Red or Blue and your forgot to catch Pikachu in Viridian Forest and you didn't choose Bulbasaur in the beginning, she could end up being a huge wall in your progress. What makes things even scarier is, if her Starmie had Psybeam, she could could even shut down Ivysaur. Plus her choice of Pokémon (barring a few) are either bulky or hit hard. She can easily shut down Blaine, Brock and Giovanni, her Starmie could cause problems for some of Koga or Janine's Pokémon and if she used Quagsire, she could also cause problems for Lt. Surge. Plus many of her Pokémon can learn Ice-Type moves and Her Gyarados theoretically can learn Bounce so that also deals with Erika. If she Mega-Evolves Gyarados, she can go crazy on Sabrina's team as well. Even though she uses Water type moves, she has good coverage against many of the other gym leader, and with a well assembled team, she could be equally matched with Blue.
But if we’re going strictly with Kanto Pokémon, she wouldn’t have Quagsire, meaning Surge can still pose a huge threat to her. And if we were to use lore logic, Giovanni would not go down easily at all.

The best thing about Misty is that she was like one of my Early Childhood crushes and yes she's totally is legal now because if you go by Pokemon Sun and Moon she technically would be in her twenties because red and blue are now older.
I don't think that was the issue. Maybe the people at Game Freak just thought it would be good to change Misty's outfits to possibly show the change in style that she had after Red and Blue.

All of gym leader misty's pokemon battles were really great from all of the Pokémon games,since I played almost all of the games when I was younger. Starmie has got to be one of the most underrated Pokémon ever. I mean a Water/Psychic type that can learn Friggin Thunderbolt? plus it’s Sp. Atk and Speed stats being above 328 are pretty good.
I wish I could have shown everyone my battle with Misty on Pokémon Yellow. It was so epic! All my Pokémon were under levelled for the battle (between 14 and 18) Starmie got called out and wiped out my 5th pokemon, all I had left was my 6th and final Pokémon, my level 18 Pikachu. The Starmie gave my Pikachu a hard spikey tackle which took just over half it's health; one more hit and I lose the battle. My Pikachu returned with thundershock which only took a 5th of the Starmies health but paralyzed it's dumb ass, allowing my Pikachu to move first, now. I thundershocked the shit out of that Starmie, 5 times in a row and the Starmie stayed paralyzed each turn until the last thundershock ended the battle! Super lucky, but the most important contributing factor to the battle was that I believed in my Pikachu. Cascade Badge, 50 Gs babaaay! Thanks Misty!
She was a monster in Red & FireRed, defeated her with a Charizard. In Gold, it was way too late for her to pose any threat. I mean, yes, I have a lot of badges and I will take you lightly.

My first time playing Firered ever, I had a Nidoking and a Charmeleon when I got to Misty. She murdered me abt 9 times 😂😂

I always had Charmeleon and Nidoking too at that point in the game. I also had a Pikachu and a Gloom with me to handle Misty's mons.

Misty it does not work like that focus blast is an special attack not an physical attack so your use of hone claws are just helping on the accuracy of focus blast

I was a bit shocked that misty used psyduck at the beginning of the battle in Pokémon let’s go but otherwise I still thought that battle alone was amazing!
It's an anime reference.
Psyduck was notorious for calling itself out of its pokeball, so that's clearly what it did here.
