strength of solid plate is governed by yielding not by rupture

In Books(N.Subramanian & S.K Duugal) also they used Rupture Formula For Finding Efficiency.

cover plate aur main plate ke beech mein 6 bolts lagenge na ki 3 jaisa in mahashay ne bataya hai

The no of bolts required is 6 (@14.50) ,so it means 6 on each side in a butt joint, then why is he providing only 3 on each side (@16.45)?

yes, you are right. total 12 and 8 bolts will be provided in question 1 part b and c respectively.

@@vishalbarwal6659 brother, why we need 8 bolts in part (c)? Shouldn't 6 bolts be sufficient? 3 on each plate?

22:15 .. in sub question b) for Vdpb sir you took t =8mm which is of cover plate but for sub question c) for Vdpb you took t=10mm and why not 8mm bcz in question cober plate is of 8mm

I think efficiency should be calculated here with respect to yielding of gross section rather than rupture.....

While designing Single Cover butt joint, instructor didn't account Reduction factor for packing plate in determining Design Shear Capacity of Bolt.
