Instant Pot Meatloaf - using the Steamer Insert
    Hey Everyone,
I was sent an Instant Pot Steamer insert to do an honest review on it. I am in love with my Instant Pot and this is a great addition to it. I was able to make Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and steamed carrots all in 20 minutes in one pot!!! This pot is perfect for cheesecake (I will link that video below) veggies, fish even reheating leftovers. It's made of 304 Food Grade Stainless Steel so you don't have to worry about the food burning. The stainless steel cooker insert is compatible with most instant pot models including IP-DUO50, IP-DUO60, IP-LUX60, IP-DUO80. Also fits other multi quart (6 quart and above) electric pressure cookers such as Kuhn Rikon, Power XL, Cuisinart, Fagor, Costaway, Faberware, T-fal, Elite, GoWise, Secura, Gourmia.
    This was from the company:

Please let me know how you like the steamer insert!!!

I've used standard stove top pressure cookers for 40 years and never burnt anything in them yet. Now got an Instant Pot which I love. Son bought it for me for Mother's Day (I'm in the UK) 3 weeks ago. I haven't used the stove since. The IP takes pressure cooking to a new level. Will be ordering similar pans to these this week.

For a better presentation you can put the meatloaf in the top insert with ketchup and brown sugar on it and no cover. I saw a video where it was done this way. When it was done cooking the person put cheese on top, covered it for 5 min. with the pot turned off to melt the cheese. Not sure I want cheese on my meatloaf though lol

now that sound's good, I did the meatloaf with ketsup on top in the bottom pan and peeled potatoes sliced in half on the top, and it took 50 min of course I may have had a little more than a pound, but not much more and only 3 halfed potatoes. I really don't know how it could pressure for only 20 min, but maybe. but will be doing your recipe with the meatloaf on top and uncovered, love the ketsup and brown sugar thank's for the tip

If you don't put the lid on the top pan that has the meatloaf, wouldn't condensation puddle up and make it wet and prevent the camalization? I hope this works, if it does maybe you could use more meat (1 lb is not enough for me to go to the trouble to make meatloaf, where's the leftovers for gosh sake?) and start it on the bottom by itself for 25 min or so, cover ed then put the potatoes on the bottom, it carrots in bottom of streamer pot, then meatloaf on top which would probably (maybe? 😀) have enough of a head start to finish cooking and carmalize in the 20 min or takes to cook the veggies. What do you think? I just got my pot, only used it a couple of times, can't wait to try the whole meal meatloaf, I'd just let somebody else screw it up first so I don't have to! LOL. Just kidding, y'all know I love and appreciate all you who have gone before me. 😘. Keep calm and carry on!

My mom made meatloaf with carrots and potatoes in the old time pressure cooker when I was growing up and I have to say it looked much nicer. The meatloaf was actually brown and moist inside. It was better meatloaf than I make in my oven. I know she used a metal plate that came in the pressure cooker on the bottom of the cooker first, and then the meatloaf was placed on top of that. I'm not impressed at all with the looks of this in the instapot. I have to try to do this myself and see if I can't figure out how to make the meatloaf dinner of my childhood in the instapot. I'm sure this is going to be a challenge but I do love the taste of a moist meatloaf. Thanks for your video! P.S. In all my years growing up with a mother who consistantly used a normal, old fashioned pressure cooker, not one mishap do I ever remember. Most meals and the canning were done with it. The secret was never letting that jigger gig like crazy. Slow and steady I still remember the sound. My mom was wonderful cook and I wish I had taken more interest back then.

You could place the carrots on top of the meatloaf (in same pan, I mean) to save space. (Bonus flavor sharing!) For those like myself without those specialty pans, I use a round, flat-bottomed pan with a dinner plate on top for a lid. Thanks kindly for the video! This will be dinner at my house soon.

I note how American cooking incorporates so many added-in factory-made ingredients. Julia Child, whose videos are available on RUclips, always worked from basic ingredients, but the modern US way seems to be a box of ''stock'', a pack of so-called breadcrumbs (rusk), a packet of sauce mix, a packet of of herbs, a box of onion soup etc. This, with respect, means the meal is not so much cooked as assembled!

    • @sandyk7611

Top will hold baby carrots sprinkled with cinnamon and pat of butter using steam lid. Each will be served in a bowl with the bourbon/butter mix poured over sweet potatoes.

Not so well, 15 minutes high pressure and had to cut sweet potatoes in half to get fit and few didn't soften up well. Carrots had to put in extra 5 minutes and still didn't soften up. Some split but still to crunchy but bourbon flavor did steam in potatoes. Potatoes on botton carrots on top, i used steamer lid with holes maybe why carrots never got soft, thanks for microwaves.

Yeah, I bought a set too. I kept seeing them on youtube and thought they were nice but I could use an aluminum sling and some Pyrex dishes. BUT, the glass dishes are heavy and then with an aluminum cover it was too much pulling up and tugging the hot heavy bowls. They arrived today and I just used it to reheat yesterdays salmon. So much easier with these tools. Next up, Pineapple Upside Down Cake, via my Ultra IP. Yeah, these are going to get a ton of use. Thanks for the video support!

I always hated my mom's meatloaf growing up, I guess it had to do with her version of topping. But between Alton Brown's recipe for meatloaf and a topping from a Pillsbury cookbook containing brown sugar, pineapple, ketchup, cornstarch (maybe a few other things, I don't memorize recipes), I became to love meatloaf. I will definitely give this a try. Thanks girl!!!!

Observations: the lid placed on the top basket, does not have any holes in it-correct ?
The pans, as well as the lid are solid metal w/o any holes-correct ?
So tell us, how do the contents cook ? Certainly not by steaming.
The ekovana Stackable Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker Steamer Insert Pans - For Instant Pot come with two covers; one is solid (no holes) and one with several holes for STEAMING.
Was there melted fat (liquid) in the bottom basket in which the Meatloaf cooked ?
I've done meatloaf in this manner, but I've also finished it under the broiler to give some crispness to the outside.... at which point a glaze can be applied and even some partially pre-cooked bacon strips.... Makes for a more appetizing appearance on the finished product.

Maybe you didn’t close the vent? Or maybe the pressure was wrong. I wouldn’t have thrown out 2 lbs of meat. I would have sliced it and pressure cooked it again at less time. There are other meatloaf videos out there & their 2-3 lb meatloaf cooked all the way through so you should suspect operator error.

I have found that my ring was not in alignment properly and therefore pressure was not achieved. This caused the meat not to cook properly. I just adjusted the ring and did it again. I did not toss the meat.

Not your fault, but I wasn't impressed by the meatloaf. Meatloaf needs to drain or it will start to boil in its juices instead of bake. That's what happened here, which isn't good for the texture or the look and tends to leave you with a tough, gummy lower portion. I think almost any other way would have worked better.
Alternatively, if you cooked it in the instant pot in a steamer basket that had holes to let the steam in and out, some or most of your oil would have dripped out. Then you'd have a much more even bake and a better texture.
