Why do you make a turn towards a reference point? I don’t see where it says that on the acs or flying handbook
I will double check that answer for you and let you know soon.
I'd think this has to do with B of the ABCs...you're going to be selecting the best available landing site if this were a fire. As you descend you'll be setting up an approach to land based on your selected site. Meaning you'll be looking at the ground, imagining your pattern & hopefully getting set to land upwind -- if possible -- after you quickly get down to pattern altitude.
