  • Neonatal Nurse Practitioner| Transition from NICU Nurse to Nurse Practitioner| 1 month update
    Nurse Joy:
Hey everybody! Today I will share with you my journey as a New Neonatal Nurse Practioner (NNP) and how it's going for me so far! I'm so excited to continue to update y'all on my career journey and how I continue to advance in my role as a new grad. I worked as a NICU nurse for 6 years before becoming a Nurse Practitioner so the transitioning process from NICU Nurse to NNP is scary. In this video, I talk about how my day goes, everybody's expectations of me, and advice about what I have learned so far. Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe!

Thank you for shining light on a role that people who stick to it try to discourage others not to do! 🙏🏽💕 May God continue to use you in a good way!

I cannot wait until my time, this has been my dream end goal since I was 14 yrs old. But first NICU RN lol. How many years do you recommend working as a NICU RN before applying to NNP? I know some programs say 2 years of experience but I am wondering if thats even enough time to feel competent as it is a whole different world.

So for NNP, you can’t apply until you’ve been a NICU nurse for two years. I would recommend applying at that two year mark. I Took my classes part time so when I graduated, I had already been a nurse for six years. You will never feel like you’re ready, but you should just go for it.

@@NurseJoy- thank you for the advice, didn’t know part-time was an option. 🙂
