    I feel like people are missing the point of why Eurylochus rebelling. I’ll list them here.
    - Odysseus decided against raiding the Island of the Lotus Eaters
    -The first loss of the crew at the cyclops (pretty dumb reason but it’s worth noting)
    -Didn’t listen to his advice to avoid the wind god which led to Poseidon
    - Trauma of losing 95% of the crew
    - Odysseus decides to confront Circe despite having no advantage, basically putting Eurylochus in danger
    - Deciding to ignore Scylla and sacrifice some of the crew (not like there was really a choice here)
    -Telling them to not eat the golden cattle despite them becoming hungry (I’m guessing this comes before this song, I don’t remember)

    • @ugxsan
      @ugxsan Месяц назад +28

      For Eurylochus's own point of view, it's clear that he thinks Odysseus has made a bunch of grave errors (of varying degrees of agreeability) and never listening to his council, he sees as the cause of all their strife. Those of us with full understanding of the story know that many of the complications in this story were at least as much a result of Odysseus's scheming as his crew's insubordination.
      Mind you, the Musical doesn't follow the book one for one, so while it may be a little more one-way in the book, the Musical makes it clear that it's all a punishment for Odysseus being naive. Because he's not ruthless enough to have done what he needed to do.

      okay but like.... the wind god was the crews fault, not Odyessus's

      - they only had lotus's, which would've made everyone....not right in the head
      - i agree dumb reason
      - wind god was not Odyessus's fault
      - i suppose this is valid
      - He points out that he admires Odyessus for this
      - i mean she was a water monster so he cant fault him
      - the prophet LITERALLY TOLD THEM if they harmed the cattle they'd be stranded for years....
      Eurylochus rebelling makes sense, but also doesn't

      @@alakazamlover4908 Moral of the story, Eurylochus isn’t the smartest cookie. Even if his ideas were basically never the correct option, it doesn’t really change the fact that in the musical, Odysseus dismissed his opinions left and right. Also, I agree that the Wind God situation was 100% on the crew, but you can’t really blame Eurylochus for thinking that they shouldn’t have trusted the Wind God.

    You know original in the Odyssey Eyurlachus begged Odysseus to go and leave all the men behind at Circe so it's interesting that he brings it up here. Now it might be changed in Epic that he asked that but it's interesting to think about.

    • @Zarsla
      @Zarsla 7 месяцев назад +22

      It's the same in the epic snippets we've seen of that part. That Eyurlachus was like let's go and take the men we still have with us and leave the others that have been pigs, as in the song he was the one surivor from the group that encountered Circe

    • @randyhosmer4951

      @@Zarsla Actually, based on context clues from the songs leading up to it, we know in Ruthlessness that Odysseus had for the most part maintained the integrity of his fleet before getting cut down from 600 to 43(?) by Poseidon. Upon arrival at Circe's Island, Ody send off the crew to investigate the island, and at least in my opinion, its HEAVILY implied upon Eyurlachus' return that they are currently the ONLY two left of the crew, which he is completely okay abandoning everyone just to ensure his own safety. Its certainly an interesting twist in his character from what's been released so far.

    I get his point but I still gotta ask what did he want him to do? His men we’re already being eaten, he couldn’t have saved them. Trying to fight scylla, a SEA monster in, not only the ocean but her specific domain would have been suicidal. Honestly running was the smartest and best move to make, why risk more of his men for their already dead comrades. The cyclops was different, they HAD to fight or they all would have died. Cersei was different, he was at least ABLE to save his scouts. But Scylla? Nothing would have been gained but more bloodshed

      Eurylochus is bringing up Scylla not because he expected Odysseus to do something- a running theme in earlier songs is his fear that Odysseus' reliance on wit and luck will eventually fail (Luck Runs Out)- but because of *how* Odysseus didn't do anything; specifically what he didn't do was tell his men they were going near Scylla.
      With Polyphemus and Circe, Odysseus was following the mindset entrenched by killing Astyanax at the end of the war and the advice given by Polites on Lotus Island, that minimal bloodshed can be an option. But having just ventured into the Underworld and met with Tiresias, who told him that that won't work if he wants to get home alive (No Longer You), having seen Poseidon sink the entire fleet bar his own(Ruthlessness), and having seen Polites killed at the hands of Polyphemus, he decides to shed that optimism. If he can get the most men of his fleet home alive, it'll be worth it (Monster).
      Of course, in true tragic protagonist fashion, he fails to mention the crisis he's going through to his best friend, Eurylochus, who is shocked numb at the sight of his formerly extremely empathetic captain callously sacrifice six men to Scylla without telling anyone the plan, leading him to the decision of mutiny, and Odysseus, embracing merciful ruthlessness, kills the man he once considered a brother.
