For my ear, that OR15 just has the best tone, it is so balanced, rich and clear. The gain has a nice mid punch that thickens chords but leaves space between the notes. Great comparison! Beauty is in the ear of the beholder, so anyone could make a choice from this video. .
Yes, he has signature 212 cabinet too. But it is only marketing bullshit, he doesnt use this gear :-) His main setup consists from Orange Rockerverb and Orange PPC412 :-)
Gotta love Tiny Terror for what it did to guitar amp history (possibly single-handedly kicked off the lunchbox amp crave). But the EQ options of the other two are just so useful.
Just stumbled onto this since I just scored a JR15 to add with my OR15, great job man! Not sure if anyone caught this, but the fact that you used a Heritage 30 made me smile, as I LOVE that speaker! The OR15 sounded fierce through my Marshall 1960A cab, will find out how this JR15 will sound. Now to look for a Tiny Terror, and a Brent Hinds Terror, to add! 🤘🏾
Not a loser in the bunch!! All sound great. I’ve owned the Orange Tiny Terror at least 4 different times, and a Rocker 30, and a Rockerverb 100 watt mki. The Rocker 30 was my favorite but got such a good deal on it, I flipped it for the profit. I’ve owned and still many great vintage and boutique amps but every time I sell the Tiny Terrors I end up regretting it. They have what I call a “Uniquely Familiar” tone. It’s unique enough to know it’s definitely got its own sound that can’t be duplicated, but also has a familiar type of tone that sounds like recorded songs from the past. It’ll be an amp remembered through out! Great Demo, thanks for sharing. Put together very well, and recording is top notch.
Sorry, by high vocal nasal growl I meant the tiny terror's high vocal nasal growl. Doesn't sound like the other two had that going on, but it could have been transient in this video. Such EXCELLENT videos btw. Great work.
Thanks, OR15 is awesome, I think it's always going to be a little more refined than the tiny terror. You can get closer by boosting the mids and highs but it's never quite as raw 👍
Follow up - I blame you for the fact that I now own the OR15. Great video, and Orange owes you some revenue sharing. I think I have to pick up this ribbon mic you use next, one of the most natural sounding recordings I've heard on all of RUclips.
I’ll tell ya’ll why Tiny terror is the way to go. I’ve owned several of these orange lunch boxes. My issue with them is not loudness, but cutting thru the mix while jamming. You will spend hours of frustrations eqing/Pushing mids on a Or15. It’s a bit bassy and dark, which as a stand alone sounds amazing because in makes the demo sound "full".. the tiny terror has that upper mids bite .. Marshall style, it will have enough presence to cut through the mix with less effort. Done! Also, in my personal opinion, its the best circuit Orange has produce so far
First thought I had was that Orange makes some great amps. TT started it all, JR & OR15 sound a bit more refined to me. JR is tighter in the low end, OR15 is looser sounding but seems to have some serious MOJO going on! Great demo, thanks for posting!
I got the OR15...the thing sounds so alive and is packed full of features. And I have a Micro Dark with the FX Loop...those things kill....dollar for dollar...or pound for pound. I have the Peavey 6505MH and the ENGL Ironball...huge tone. Thanks for the demo!
Not tryna be that guy but…. Its a single channel amp with a 3 knob eq, volume and gain knobs, how is the or15 packed full of features lol its pretty basic actually. Effects loop is really its only feature.
Agreed. With my Tele it is a nasty snarling hairy beast. The Tele naturally sounds thinner than an SG, but it still sounded huge and fat. Awesome amp! The Jim Root isn't bad either though.
WOOLgum - I had the Orange 1x12, but it sounded really boxy like a tweed amp. I exchanged it for the 2x12 and it really opened it up. Just a heads up on that.
The OR15 sounds best to my ears. The Jim Root sound very similar, but not quite as forward and full sounding. The Tiny Terror sounds great too, less low end, but more prominent mids and highs...at least with the EQs at noon. My order would be the OR15, TT, then the JRT.
Amazing tests, mate. Going for a Dark Terror after listening to how you play, will be replacing my Laney IRT shortly. Much respect! Out of curiosity, does anyone know what's that song in the beginning at 0:45 (Low Gain Stabs)?
Hmm, i expected the Root to be ‘more gain, more quicker’ like the Hinds. I know lots is lost over the tube but it seemed very much like the OR15, perhaps just a bit thicker. This took some time, appreciate it! Good luck
My view OR15 : Deeper Lower end and Lower Mid Jim Root : No Deep Lower end ...however Lower Mid is there depending on the string you are playing Tiny Terror: No Deep Lower end or Lower Mid....more towards Higher Mids and highs
I find the gain on Orange amps to fizzy and not quite tight enough. Nice cleans though. It all comes down to personal preference. I'm thinking of either the EVH III 15 watt or the Peavey 6505 MH. I'll probably go with the Peavey. It's more versatile. Just lacking those Orange Clean tones.
Harvester Of Tone couldn't agree with you more. I have the 50 W EVHIIland I owned 6505 MH. For the money the 6505MH is the best bang for its buck hands-down. Period. And I'd probably own it over a full-size 6505 for my home studio any day. Check out some of my demos. I own a Engl Fireball 60 too
Is it just me, or the OR15H pretty much sounds the same as the Jim Root, but the difference being that the Jim Root sounds like it's lacking character or kind of sounds like it's being "choked" a little bit? Like, it's just kind of lacking something against the OR15. The OR15 sounds more 'throaty' and, in comparison to the Jim Root, sounds like it just roars. I guess it makes sense since the Jim Root is more inclined to a more modern sound which requires more controlled, more precise low end in higher gain settings, thus having this kind of choked feeling in lower gain settings. Anyone else hear what I'm hearing and get what I am trying to say?
OR15 and Jim Root share are basically identical on the inside and use the same circuit. The difference is in the EQ voicing. There's a mod that can add "Jim Root" voicing switch to OR15.
I'm a bit confused with why your Tiny Terror sounds so quiet at the third notch for volume. If I have mine just past the first notch it's at practice volume. If I had it at the third notch with the gain past 12 o'clock it would be quite loud. Does it have to do with the way the cabinet has been mic'ed?
I’m not sure, the range on my Tiny Terror is different to all my other Orange amps. It’s an old combo version that’s been refitted into a head. I bought it second hand but yeah I have noticed it 🤷 Could be that the power tubes are on their way out.
They're almost identical is you're not looking at the screen to see when one is changing to the next...try it. :-) The only difference I hear is a little more low end in the Jim Root, but it's slight.
man I bought one of these OR15's used and have noticed recently that whenever I turn it on and out of standby mode I get a constant humming noise, and with the 15 watt setting its slightly louder. Even with all the volume and gain back and no instrument in. Is this just normal or is something wrong with my amp? I feel like if I were to record with it, the hum would come through forsure and I wanted this amp as a studio amp.
@@DelScully Bit of advice, if you do opt for tech service make sure to ask them to diagnose the problem for future reference. If its a preamp or effects loop tube its as easy as plug and play. Even the power tubes are technically plug and play but if im not mistaken i think they’re best replaced with a matched pair of el84.
@@Ron4president09 will do thanks for the advice I’m really hoping that is all it is as I love the amp and wanted it to be my studio workhorse with my pedals, the cleans are great on it too.
This video persuaded me into buying the OR15. It’s a great amp and very versatile. But it doesn’t do modern metal very well. Now thinking about getting another amp. Think the Jim Root terror will fit the bill? There’s a slight difference in the video but how did sound in the room?
Hey mate, I think the Jim Root is more a different flavour of that classic fat Orange tone. If you want a very modern tight metal sound I'd have a look at the Peavey 6505 mini + EVH 5150 Mini 1 👍
If anything its the opposite, or15 has crazy high gain, just slightly looser gain structure, ts pedal works wonders for tightening up but who buys and orange OR series for its tightness!!!
I agree or 15 but if you are on a budget the Tiny terror gets you all of the same tone quality just dosent have the bass and treble boosting abilities that the Jim Root or the Or 15 are capable of also Id like to say that I own a tiny terror . When you switch to the 7 watt setting you can actually get a dirtier cruch on the distortion channel im not 100%sure why, but I have a feeling its because Its only running 1 tube instead of 2. but I was on a budget when I bought my amp and i got it used for $415. which was a steal as most people spend about 550-600 for a used one. I enjoyed seeing what a tube screamer can do for the Tiny Terror! gonna be getting one of those for sure! excellent video!
And that´s how you make an amp comparison
OR15 sounds best to my ears even on high gain. really nice demo.
For my ear, that OR15 just has the best tone, it is so balanced, rich and clear. The gain has a nice mid punch that thickens chords but leaves space between the notes. Great comparison! Beauty is in the ear of the beholder, so anyone could make a choice from this video. .
Totally agree! Well said.
The things notice the most about the OR15 is the crabs actually. It just sounds juicier if that mages any sense.
They sound unimaginably similar.
The OR15 sounds so beautifully balanced!
All three are pretty awesome but damn the or15 is such an awesome sounding amp.
I didn't know Jim Root had his own signature amp head. That's really cool.
Long live the knot !
Yes, he has signature 212 cabinet too. But it is only marketing bullshit, he doesnt use this gear :-) His main setup consists from Orange Rockerverb and Orange PPC412 :-)

Jus wanted to say I recognized the Say Anything riff. Great demos all over your page, too!
Hats off for the Say Anything riffs! "When i watch you, wanna do you, right where you're standing, yeaaaaahhh"
While they all sound really good, I honestly prefer the OR--15 for everything in this example. Crazy how that works
Really nice review. The Jim Root Terror is way more versatile than I thougth. So now I"m down to Jim Root Terror VS Rocker 15 Terror VS Dark Terror.
Great video comparing the three amps. I think OR15 has the best all around sound.
Those low gain stabs sound great, like they are alive with the glory of love.

This was a fantastic comparison! Many thanks! OR 15 for me, overall, but the other two had some great moments, as well.
OR15 seems to be able to do everything.
I have one, it can do anything.
I have one but it can’t do modern metal. Sounds way too open and vintage sounding to me. Even with an OD pedal.
Say Anything, Thrice, Foo Fighters, & Radiohead. This is my kinda amp demo.
OR15 for sure
OR15 is the magical holy grain full everywhere tone
