You may no know it by our obsession with fishing for perch or brook trout, but we have other passions too. Growing our own vegetables for our family is something we love to do. It is something our parents did and something that has been a lifelong part of our family. But our growing season is very short up here in Northern NY.
SO! When we started looking at getting a greenhouse and stumbled upon this beauty, we could not let the opportunity pass by for the price so we could extend our growing season.
We paid $230 on Amazon!!! and with a few improvements we made this a very stable and now reliable vegetable producing machine!
As I said in the video I will be purchasing more of these for future use. If you would like to purchase the same one it is listed below, along with another one that we found that includes a ridge pole for under $300!
Let us know if you have tried one of these. Or if you have tips or tricks of your own for a similar one.
As always thank you for watching and ask questions below if you have them.

Hi, I have had these type of greenhouses in the past. I really like them and am putting up a small one now. I will say that be warned the greenhouse plastic and mesh covering will just start to deteriate within a year. So get a uvc plastic covering from any greenhouse supply on the web. Before the original covering is entirely turned to dust slip the new one on and use pvc clips etc to attach it to the frame. It will last for many years.

I had one of those in a 7x7x15. It lasted a couple of years. Last year, it got squashed flat by snow. What I found was there were weak points where the holes are drilled into the pipes. I got a new one coming next week, and I plan to reinforce those weak points by slipping a metal pipe over them. I'm also going to use your trick and add a ridge. I plan to use this for my chickens this winter. Great video!

I don't have that one, but one very similar. I LOVE it. It has a ridge pole and seven ribs. I have to do a heat sink and some passive ventilation, but otherwise, it's a good simple greenhouse. They mixed up one piece of the ridgepole, and the storm last night resulted in the pools Ty was talking about. I brought the fragile plants into the house, and because I allowed the wind to move through both open screen doors, nothing got hurt. I did fix the ridgepole with Schedule 40 and a drill. The minute day length increases, I'll be starting my first veggie garden of the year.

This is roger, thanks for the heads up. I actually took the plastic off after July, and then put it back on in October. So maybe that will make the plastic last longer. What did you use for a heat sink.?

    • @reginaweiner3817

@@melh7879 I used six 5 gallon black buckets with Epsom salt solution. It doesn't hold enough heat for the whole greenhouse, but I tried keeping a few tender plants under plastic. The temperature has been dropping even lower, and I have brought the plants into the house. I'm still looking for a solution that doesn't require electricity. The humidity is too high for that to be safe. I am going to remove the plastic in summer, too. I need a shaded area big enough for both peppers and tomatoes.

I live Charlotte Florida in which Ian blew a limb on my little greenhouse and squashed it! I had it for three years and I also reinforced it so that it was a convertible. It had shade cloth on it for warm months and the plastic cover only during a few freezes during winter. I used thick fiberglass tomato steaks as a center beam on the ceiling and sandwiched the green pet fencing inside the entire greenhouse and then added a screen door on one side with more green pet fencing. Oddly enough it took over 60 and 70 mile an hour winds because it had the shade cloth and the fencing on it. it’s very durable, since I reinforced it. I just put up a new one and reinforce a little more and it’s 7 x 15.

Great video! The only concern I would have is with the cross ribs you added to the top to prevent the sagging. The idea is great but think about adding some padding to each end so when the wind blows etc the plastic won't develop a hole from the rough cut edge of the plastic rib. Unless I missed it in the video...then I apologize for not paying attention lol. I live near Malone NY, on the border of Canada, and I have one of those pop up 12x20 garages with the tubular metal frame..I have to find the right plastic to cover it but it will make an awesome greenhouse when I can get it covered. I managed to get a different model with an extra top ridge pole in the middle for only 102 dollars during Black Friday!
It has held up very well so far. The first very bad storm came through a few days ago and it didn't blow away. But I have mine secured with 4 extra fence posts on the inside steaked into the ground secured to the frame, and some paracord over the top of the whole thing as well.
Also, you for sure need to make sure the doors are closed during very windy days. Mine has a door on each side so I can leave it open if it's a bit windy. But my neighbor just got one, and hers blew away in that recent bad storm. She didn't secure hers as well yet, and she left her door open, and she only had one door so it was catching a lot of wind with nowhere for that wind to go. I helped her put it back up and secured it like mine today, so hopefully hers won't fly away again.
Also, don't forget to weigh down the sides of the tarp with heavy things like cinder blocks, rocks, dirt, or something to keep air from getting in and keep it to the ground. Roger's idea of screwing it onto his plant bed is even better! I wish I did that! I'm 6'3" and I don't have a lot of headroom because only the center of the hoop is 7 feet.
Basically, if anybody reads this and is getting one, make sure to do a lot of wind protection.

@@RogersRigs RUclips doesn't tend to allow commenters to share links, but I'll add a search term that should pull it up at the bottom of this post. It's currently 169, I got it during Black Friday with a bigger discount and applied a discount code that was for that day only. So it dropped it to $102.88 for me! I was so happy to get such an insane deal. The whole time I was building it, I felt like I robbed them or something. 🤣
Right now, there are a lot of cheap ones that look like they may even be of better quality, but I'm more than satisfied with mine. Especially for the price!

I do that for the whole top 1/3 of the frame work, and it is easiest to do that with the tarp/canvas not installed yet. Glad to see its working for you. My mom bought one of the smaller ones from Outsunny. I laughed when I saw their "steel" tubes. Gonna have to spend as much as she paid for it just to fix their horrible design. Because I knew this would be super light weight and would be blown away in a 10mph wind (we have hurricane force winds in New Mexico) I bough 18 inch Rebar J Hooks to anchor it down and so far their the only thing I am impressed with. Hopefully I can make this work because my mom has always wanted a green house and this is what she can afford. If anyone has one of these types and it has survived 50mph winds please let us all know how that was possible.

I have a similar one, they’re all much the same. I live in North East Scotland and I’m going into my 3rd year with my tunnel now. We have recently had extreme wind gusts of 70mph, blew my glass greenhouse to bits but my tunnel hasn’t moved an inch.
All I did was dig a trench and bury the cover where it has the longer flap on the sides and backfilled. I also hammered 2x4’s into the ground at each corner inside the tunnel and zip tied them to the frame.
I should say that my tunnel did have a bar going across the length of the roof so I didn’t need to worry about rain/snow. But anyway, that’s all I did to secure my one.

My questions are as follows: 1, I it still standing? 2, With the incoming storm to the east coast, how well will/did it hold up? 3. Dd you attach the lower edge of the plastic cover to the tops of your raised bed? And if so, what method di you use?

THansk Chris! 1 i took the plastic doen for the winter but the metal is up and it stayed up all summer just fine. 2 i did have a snow load on it once and a few storms. with the ridgepole modification and the bases secured to the raised bed. it cant reall go anywhere. 3 the plastic comes with about 8" extra at the bottom. so we flapped that over the raised bed sideboards and then screwed strips of wood over that to secure it tight to the raised bed. that really worked and it made the plastic tighter on the frame so less opportunity to sag or belly or let the wind get going on it. I hope this helps!

I LOVED your video and already added it to my amazon cart for a later purchase. I do have 1 suggestion which I will be doing... I would suggest adding felt pads over the screws or joints that will touch any fabric. You can go to your local Dollar General and find a package of them on the $1.00 isle. They come with 6 or more per package so if you got 10 or 12 packages of them, then you'd have plenty to use and you should have enough. To think that buying something for less than 20 bucks that would help protect the covering from rubbing a hole in it from the wind and movement is well worth it in my opinion. That's what I'll be doing when I get mine. I already have a few packages and will be picking up a handful more next time I go into the Dollar General. Thanks for a great video! Merry Christmas and I hope all is well in your camp.

@@RogersRigs to be frank, ive used the 3mil contractors for a couple decades and never had a problem with light deprivation.. On the upside, ive seen many instances of shrinkwrapped gh projects that have had great success, inspiring the ambition to try it, while ive got supply in hand already!

As of today they're on sale for even cheaper than what you got it! I was thinking because of bidenflation that they'd be crazy expensive.

My friend used cattle panel over the hoops to eliminate sag based on my reco. He had heavy rain, some wind & partial collaspe. The bent poles were a problem.
With all the mods needed, building something more substantial in the first place makes sense. He'll be lucky if that cover lasts 2 yrs.

good points, and cattle panels are not cheep. i guess its a situation where you gotta go all out. or keep it simple and cheep and hope for the best

I dont think there is a big difference in performance....maybe the green is a little more opaque, i just picked green i guess, so it was a greenhouse :-)
