  • Primitive life is about connecting with the land and learning her ways. The learning process is essential for survival and this process takes time through careful observation and experimentation. The land provides materials to bushcraft useful tools and it also provides plenty of food. However, acquiring that food is often not so easy. As I learn more about this beautiful land I will eventually unlock the secrets not only to survive here, but to thrive. This series will be ongoing so be sure to stay tuned for the next video.

    My equipment:
Camera: Nikon D7500 and GoPro HERO7 Black
    Sound: Zoom H4N
Editing: Final Cut Pro X on MacBook Air
    Location: Parts Unknown
    FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):
    Who films you?
Me. I travel alone, shoot, edit, upload, everything, all alone. On a few occasions I may be accompanied by a friend.
How many cameras do you use?
Usually I use just one camera. When I have underwater scenes then I also use a GoPro camera. I get different angles by moving the camera around and repeating the action to create a more cinematic viewing experience for the audience.
    Where is this place?
In order to protect the integrity of the natural landscape I prefer to be very vague about the locations I use. There are places that I used to visit that were so beautiful and untouched but the consequences of social media brought all kinds of people to visit and sadly some people do not respect nature and have badly damaged these places. Therefore I do not share locations.
Where did you get your sandals?
I first started wearing sandals on outdoor adventures in February 2014. I’m so glad that I did because wearing these Luna Sandals has really helped strengthen my feet. You can see their selection of adventure and running sandals at this link: www.lunasandal...
(Note: I receive an affiliate commission from any sales derived from clicking on the link above)
    Do you workout?
Yes, I workout, but not in a gym. I have some weights that I use and also do a lot of bodyweight exercises. I also run and sometimes swim. I hike frequently to collect wild foods and to shoot these videos so I'm very active all the time.
    Are you vegan or vegetarian?
I wish I could maintain my health on a primal diet that does not include animals but unfortunately that did not work well and I ended up with health problems as a result of those attempts. From my studies, observations of nature, and personal experience I have come to believe that the best diet for optimal human health is a primal diet (paleo).
Do you get lonely when you’re alone?
No, I don’t get lonely. I’m actually so busy shooting video, taking photos and doing so many other things like making cordage, cooking, weaving, etc. that I really don’t have time to think about my lonely condition. Sometimes when something profound happens on an adventure I can’t wait to share it with people, but other than that I do not get lonely.
How many languages do you speak?
My first language is English but I also speak fluent Spanish and Portuguese. I also speak very little Russian. I may soon begin learning more languages.
    How old are you?
I was born in 1972. At the time of this video I was 48.
Where did you get the music in your videos?
This series is the first one that I am making all the music myself. I recently made a drum and maracas (rumba shaker). I am now using them to create the intro and ending music in my videos, but before in the past I have used royalty free music from several sources including RUclips. Sometimes I bought the music but usually it was free.

Trump uses the Russian version rather than the American one and the difference is delivery; the American sign waves towards the sky and the Russian sign is pounded towards the earth and is a barely disguised punch to the face.

I don't know if you have plans for this in the future, but what about making a sort of man made "lagoon" ?
Kind of like an enclosed damn area made of rocks with a small opening and put bait inside of it.
If you see fish inside of it, go around into the water and close off the entrance to it where the fish get in and then you can net them or something inside of your lagoon.

    • @ladyofthemasque
      @ladyofthemasque 2 года назад

If he's doing this in California, he has to be careful of various regulations regarding the use & preservation of waterways. Even up here in Washington State, we have to be careful of our activities in our state's riverbeds because we could accidentally destroy salmon spawning nests. If they're destroyed, there won't be nearly enough salmon next year for fishing & eating. These regulations do make sense in regards to our longterm survival, ensuring there will hopefully always be at least some salmon to catch...even if they're a pain in the loincloth in the immediate needs sense. Shaping a lagoon might seem like a good thing to do...but it could actually end up being the wrong thing to do in other terms as well. If the dam breaks, he could be liable for any damage caused downstream by flash flooding. If the extra standing water of the lagoon causes masses of mosquitoes to breed and hatch, that could cause the spread of more diseases. (I do think we've already had more than enough of that going on right now, wouldn't you agree?)

So far, this reply has gotten three likes. Assuming one of them is Chad and knowing one of them isn't me, it appears that there are at least three viewers, myself included, who never mind what else is happening in the videos we are primarily interested in what Chad does with spinning, weaving, basketmaking and the fiber arts because we're all involved in it at the level that Chad himself is involved in. 2 million subscribers. 4 handspinners. Probably about a statistical average.
I had mentioned previously that I'd seen a museum display of weaving materials from a Peruvian burial, perhaps Moche. I had already read the book "Bolivian Highland Weaving" and several on Guatemalan weaving. What struck me was that little had changed between Moches and present day Aymarás. The ancient woman was buried with her finest works so her yarn was about half the diameter of that in one of those alpaca ponchos you can buy. More tightly spun too. And if she used cochineal it didn't last. She had browns to yellows to whites. No reds, blues or greens. But most of it was the same as today.
Chances are there are 4 handspinners and ten or fifteen pretenders. (They don't cheer on a dead cow bone)
But there are 2 million subscribers. There's a pretty good chance some of the people who say "Hello, I'm from Bolivia" or whatnot don't practice backstrap weaving themselves. They are mostly jungle bushcrafters. BUT I BET THERE ARE SOME WHOSE MOTHERS AND GRANDMOTHERS STILL DO.

Hey Chad, have you considered adding the nopales growing near your hut to the menu? You can throw them right in the coals and cook them like that. I think between nopales, palo verde beans, and fish you could make a really solid stew in your pot. I’d dice the nopales after cooking them on the coals and blanch them in the pot with water to remove the sliminess. Then return them to the pot and add the beans and a little water. Once they’re cooked through after 5 mins, remove the stew and add the fish with a bit of water and cover to poach the fish. After 5 or so mins put the fish on your plate and add the stew on top. That’s a meal of legumes, vegetables, and lean protein.

When you go fishing you could put a bait in the water and wait for the moment to skewer one of the fish. Good videos, keep it up.

Love your passion for the Primal living!
Let me tell you a secret about fishing and your success will be garanteed.
"Connecting with the Land" is the Primory Thing you have to do.
Throw your Bait and Sit down, Relax, connect with the World, just chill...
and be rdy for the Moment!! (ALWAYS!)
You jiggle/giggle to much around with the Bait.
Let the fish observe and explore the bait on her own a little bit more.
A good bite needs some time :)
A Fish is fast - your not - so "let the food come to you" :)
    Good Luck with it !
and no I try not to say you have to build a Trap with Stones/Sand/Wood to "LOCK the Fishis in a small Area" by Baiting them into it. (only for common "not so far to walk" places recommended)

it would be nice if you are going to do a fishing basket to try to catch the fish, maybe gather them with some stones, for the fishing basket you can use branches or leaves you already know how to do them I saw. leaves the bait in the water in the basket, the level of water is not very high you can succeed it would be nice to see this kind of primitive fishing!

Have you thought about a spring pole trap for fishing? You can leave it and not have to watch it?? If you can get The cordage smaller but the tensile strength would be the issue. I don’t know any about making cordage. That’s where your experience comes in. Just an idea if you haven’t already. Great vid!!

I recetendly traveled 8 hours to go to a place and stayed for a week. It was stressful and boring. I got back today and you upload, perfect timing lol.
Also: I saw how much you struglled with catching fish, you can create a stone wall with a gab opening and build like a *fence* with natural bendable sticks, so when the fish go threw they get stuck and you can catch them.
