GET IN THERE MAT! Better to build a unicorn than rebuild the car. I wish I could subscribe twicefold and I'm watching this build closely so I don't miss a ticket this time round!!!
I’m sure you won’t get to reading this comment Mat, but your content is really a breath of fresh air. You get on with it, take risks, are humble whilst being engaging. I wish you all the best
Go and see Dark Ghost Developments like Jamie from Officially Gassed with his RS5, they'll manufacturer custom side skirts to marry the M2 wings to the 140i body.
@@andyhunt457 this is true, I imagine Mat will butcher some M2 and 140i skirts together and then wrap them just for the challenge being the legend he is 💪😂
Hi Matt about the airbag light. In the back under the boot near the battery there is a cable usually black. See if that cable it cut or broken. In the case of an accident it blows and in the case of a theft its usually cut by the theif and it causes the airbag light to turn on
I'd try setting the side skirts so they're evenly spaced between front and back, so leaving the same, very small gap at both ends. Then 3-D print a small extender that fits like a very short sleeve around each end, then probably use super glue to keep it there if it look ok. That close to the wheel well, such a small bit of matte black plastic shouldn't look too out of place.
This looks wicked bro. The rear end would look really good with the wider arches. Also, I think a pearl white would look really nice if you was to wrap it.
Mat, I'm absolutely obsessed with your channel. You are my favorite mechanic, I am watching you and learning thanks every time I'm on your channel. I own 2007 BMW 335I N54 with Dinan stage 2 tuning, and some other upgrades, I absolutely love it. I purchased this car brand new in 2006 and I sold it in 2010 to friend of mine who was afraid to drive it because of the power this car produce. He put only 12,000 miles over 12 years owning it. Three months ago I bought it back, the car is now 16 years old and have only 54,000 miles it was always garaged and it still like new condition. I'm trying to put some more upgrades and improvements. Watching you what you do with your cars make me want to do more and more to make my car look better and drive faster. With the work I did already the car have 450 hp and it's absolute pleasure to drive. I am 72 years old, originally from Poland and I live in US for 40 years. It's kind of funny when I watching your videos sometimes I have to rewind and listen second time, because of your British accent. Don't get me wrong I love it, and so far I understand every word you saying because English is my second language I have to pay attention. I am amazed, how the final result is always surprising. You are perfectionist, and I admire your attention to details. I am a Master Crystal Cutter, attention to details and perfection is in my blood, that's why I love what you do. By showing your mistakes and finding the solutions sometimes for very difficult problems makes me wanna tackle things I wouldn't do without watching your channel. Keep up the good work, everything you do it's very educational for all car enthusiast. I wish you all the best! 🌎
Jheeze congratulations on 230k subscribers mat, I went back to your old bmw 1 series videos and you’ve come such a long way, you’re so much more comfortable speaking to the camera and you’re having fun with RUclips, love to see it man 💪💪
I’m looking forward to seeing this build progress as I think there are some technical challenges ahead and it will be awesome to see how Matt comes up with solutions.
One of the best episodes- the enthusiasm and sheer " I dont know what I dont know" shines through - brillaint camera work and such a good story being told- well done. ANyone know why theyd have taken off a couple of flappy paddles? Surely not worth reselling are they ?!
looks great! for the side skirts cut them at an angle parallel to the end about 3 inches in from the end then put in a 15mm wide strip of carbon or some contrast coloured plastic to extend it to length? just an idea 🤷🏻♂️
I never thought about them setting off a fire extinguisher to cover fingerprints. That’s so simple and easy to do. Shocked more people don’t do it more often, the car sized mini ones are perfect for on the go criminal bag lol.
It is actually a common practice but many insurance companies around the world write off the cars so we never seen them, unless it was a friend's car... I know of one case in France.
I’ve not known criminals to do that here in sunny essex, they just wear gloves 🧤but some do spray extinguishers out the window when being pursued by police then they log the empty can at them.
Tip Matt for the b58 charge coolers and radiators. Put a aluminium honey comb mesh behind the mesh grills of the front bumper. Really common for rock strikes and itll leak engine/charge cooler coolant.
Yes I love the m2 Front end colour think you should do the hole car that Colour. As for the back of the car so the m2 give your self a challenge your more then capable of achieving it!!
I had that restraint system warning in my 2013 1 series. It was caused by a cigarette socket charger short circuiting the electrics and when I unplugged it the light went straight away. I'd recommend checking for any electrical issues 👍🏽
You need to go all out with the colour with such an angular front end. You could even have reflective tape on the lines with a crazy colour wrap, it could look so unique.
15:55 pop rivet used as pin punch to drive pin out! Like old school mechanic👍 now Matt!! Keep up the good work fella! Loving the content. Looking forward to how this one goes! Stay safe 💪
Mentioned already, buy M2 damaged side skirts or aftermarket ones. Cut M2 side skirts then section combination of M140i and M2 skirts into a custom fit skirt. This may also benefit rear fitment if you bulge rear wheel wells/quarters blending in M2/M3/M4 (whatever would fit best). Similar to doing a wide body kit, you can cut out bulged quarters from M car overlay onto M140I , cut out existing M140i quarters, weld new bulged M quarters on, blend, sand ect...... Create truly custom M140i.
Grab some front half of the m2 side skirts Cut up to the m2 wing plastic weld the two together bit of fibreglass filler Moulded a top and a bottom half of a bumper and holds up well to this day
Mat get yourself a set of m2 side skirts and have the body shop cut the fronts off and plastic weld them to your original side skirts that will give you the length you need and sort that gap out. As for the rear FULL SEND m2 rear and get the rear arches pulled 👊🏼
Oh Mat... I was very unsure bout the choice to put the M2 front on but as per usual... I stand corrected... u have nailed it, killed it (in a very good way) as u always do... im still working thru the videos, well done dood... oh an give Kevin a cuddle for me hes lovely... its always good seeing him in the videos... oh an hannah as well... oops...
Absolutely loved the m2 competition front end idea, the car looks alot more aggressive ,for the side skirts you could maybe get aftermarket carbon side skirts
Need an m2 skirt and some cutting and molding but saying that I wouldn't be surprised if the m2 skirt is longer downwards. Are you fitting m2 rear arches? Only you will probably have an issue at the rear too. Can't just have an m2 front?
Mat it’s been documented in a few places I’ll try find a link to help. Also definitely do the rear arches! Again it’s been done before but think it’s a body shop job.
Could get some damaged m2 sideskirts and cut the end of inline with door and stick them both together! Frankenskirts
I was thinking the same
Genius
Same thinking
Just get them plastic welded dead easy I’m sure you’ll find someone local👍
Frankenskirts😂😂😂😂😂 I’m out😂
M2 rear quarters and rear definitely!! Or metal wide body
It’s nice seeing abused cars especially this one thats been stolen, stripped apart & left for dead given a second chance in life! Mat is the GOAT!
Its not stolen, it was a setup
M2 rear quarters need to be grafted in now, no point in having just a wide front end.
You nailed it thats why i think these conversations are so dam ugly back skinny front meaty 😂😂 someone aint done a leg work out
@@juskillz5229 that's a great analogy... Someone skips leg day 😂
Absolutely agreed needs that wide rear👍
Get some factory mud flaps for the front to cover the gap 😉

Finallly a near 20 minute video! My only complaint about this channel is the videos ain’t long enough! Love this build so far.

100% do rear arches an rear bumper 140 will look sick 👌🏼👌🏼

Mat - Shame about the exhaust - but it saves you a job taking it off - because you would have changed it anyway 🤔🤣🤣🤣
He could sell the old one and get some money out of it .
Get the feeling if it was removed it was probably an upgraded exhaust already
@@ryandevillers214 Not necessarily, thieves would have stolen the exhaust anyway because Catalytic converters are still very valuable
This looks wicked bro. The rear end would look really good with the wider arches. Also, I think a pearl white would look really nice if you was to wrap it.
Loving this build. Would be interesting to see what the wheels off the M4 would look like on the M140i??
Most exciting notification I’ve seen from you ❤️ cannot wait to stick this front end on mine soon, M2 rear conversion looks cracking also!
Thats actually a super cool idea. likely one of the only M2 (style) hatchbacks
Someone on Instagram is building one at the moment
There’s quite a few of them driving around in the netherlands
I saw a two door that even had a m2 rear
I also saw someone is building a 135i with M2 bumpers and a 4.4 X6M engine.
Definitely not the first but it’s not common either. Plenty done already
