S54 throttle actuators and throttle position sensors are something I keep on standby for my own car. I’d hazard a guess that they last 75-100k miles, but when you need one, you need it right then.
He truly is a legend. 2years ago a friends fuel pump failed in his Golf GTI 2010. We came by Pete and after a couple of minutes of looking he found a fuel pump for us.

I lived about 55min from the ring and was able to take the drive over often. Sometime I would just hang out in the parking lot because I had a bad feeling. It was never a waist because of the scenic B road drive to the ring, cars and people you see at the Nordscheife, and the Autobahn on the way home was always so much fun. Mat I’m glad you got to experience that and share the moment with us.
There is another exit/entry on the Nordschleife at Breidscheid. It's on the right of the left turn on Breidscheid bridge after the slowest corner on the whole track. So pretty easy to find. You passed it at 15:15
In the moment of hearing your car give a warning sound and lose power, your mind isn't processing things like it normally does. It panics, and something "easy to find" becomes an afterthought
I love that most youtubers this would be an "oh, worst news, sad, sad", or "trip to the ring destroyed, wasted hours and money", but instead it's a fun adventure. Keep the good vibes rolling.

Matt, i live in Germany. Be very very careful showing German number plates (as you did with the crashed Porsche). German privacy laws are very different from U.K. and basically the owner of that car has a right to privacy which you have infringed. I suggest you pixel the number plate

Throttle actuators in these are famous for going wrong. In my old E46 M3 I always kept at least 2 spare in my glovebox, along with a MAF sensor. The front actuator is usually the culprit, but the one under the intake manifold can also go out. Actuators only cost about 45 quid brand new here, you got ripped off mate!!

SMG with the CSL rev matching map (a must!) would of been quicker ;), dosnt deserve all the hate, a new motor on the pump and its epic once you get used to it, there's a reason the CSL's only came as smg - the manual is not a great box imo.. but great video love the car and the work done!
I like the smg but it gets hate cos it’s so unreliable!! I’d never own one so bought a manual, and true The manual box isn’t the greatest but I’ve never not been able select a gear cos the smg motor has overheated sat in traffic in the uk 😂😂😂😂
@@Leeholtom2911 I had an SMG for 5yrs, uprated the motor and that's all I needed to do! Never had a problem, its like anything, if looked after properly it's not normally an issue
Gotta say I love watching your videos but not so keen on this. Timing laps isn't on and is dangerous for you and other track users. Thinking you know where you're going and what the tracks doing off the back of laps on a games console is laughable and pretty dangerous in my opinion. If the ring ever gets closed to the public it'll be off the back of people doing stuff like this.....
Love your can do attitude. Ignore the negative comments about running around the ‘ring as a newbee. We all have to start somewhere and to stay safe all you need do is be sensible and know both your limits and the cars. I’d be putting some premium rubber on though for that sort of thing. Not worth risking your neck on budget tyres! Oil temp sounds about right for pushing hard. Modern oils can be cooked to 140 degrees or more without serious worries. As long as it’s a high quality synthetic you’re fine. Welcome to bmw unreliability and bills! Yours is a better engine reliability wise than the the wallet munching m5 V10 which is epically bad!

If it's something I've learned over the years is that you don't push to limits a 20 year old car, regardless of brand, unless you rebuild all critical systems with new parts. Electronics tend to break over time, I have one Vauxhall from 2005 which runs perfectly but from time to time I get a CAN BUS communication error, which goes away eventually. And I changed all possible sensors with new ones, only ECUs remained old.
Good watch and glad it wasn’t a crash after all the work getting it back on the road 👍 Didn’t realise the throttle actuator was a common issue on the e46 thought the e92 M3 & M5/M6 V10 were the only ones plagued with it! Old cars now so everything is becoming a “common issue” 😅

It would only affect him if he was still in Germany (which I’m assuming he is back in the UK) so the Porsche owner has no rights now.
