My fave easter egg is all the detail they put into their phones. like how shiv uses a photo of saddam hussein as her dad's contact photo, so every time logan calls her saddam pops up on her screen. and how roman's lock screen is a photo of shiv getting flipped off by him.
If as you say the name Kendal means "the valley of river Kent", it's yet another reference to King Lear. Kent is the first who openly speaks his mind and oposes Lear's decision in the first act and is thus banished; pretty much like Kendal's rebellion at the end of season 2 against his father's decision and betraying what he thought of his father's character and actions in front of the committee and cameras, hence the banishment.
Love how the names of the siblings have meanings that counterpoint their possesor's true nature. Shiv - pure, Roman - strong, and Conner - wise. Kendall's name has a water reference, like much of the visual imagery of him in the show.
#1 Also, at the share holder meeting, in the bathroom, Logan calls Tom "son" for the first time. He in return calls him "pop". It signifies that in Tom's mind, he's now actually family and will do what the other kids have been doing, fight to get on Logan's good side & do anything for the company.
Shiv means pure?! Maybe Siobhan does but I always took Shiv as a sneaky reference to a makeshift knife like you get in prison. Am I the only person who noticed this?!
She's whiny, abusive and disloyal to Tom. She treats him like Logan treats her and Tom turns around and does it to Gregg. Gross. They could be a power couple if she didn't treat him so awful.
a shiv is a knife; romans are conquerers; conner is constantly shortened to con, like criminal; kendall's "valley of the river kent" could be a reference to his water motif
Speaking of "Peep Show," I noticed in an early episode (one that takes place in a bowling alley) that Mark calls Jeff a "seat sniffer", which of course is what Logan calls Caroline's new husband.
I love how there’s a considerate spoiler warning in a video titled “25 Things *You* *Missed* in Succession” implying the person had already seen it, but still gave them a heads up.. meanwhile I got Game of Thrones spoiled for me via standing in line at Primark.
Logan- barely has any real feelings or attachments so is hollow inside Roman- Tries to give of the vibe of being strong and powerful but isn’t at all Kendall- More of the great gastby water allusions with the river talk Connor- Thinks he’s Wise but can be almost as Petulant as his siblings Shiv- she’s not Pure at all or even tries to be so giving her this name had to be a joke
"The creator of the show has some more humble roots" the humble roots in question being The Thick Of It. The narrator of the video is absolutely right, audience-wise, but The Thick Of It is so goddamn brilliant that it's just par for the course that Succession would be too.
for real, the thick of it has some of the most creative dialogue i’ve ever heard, it’s DNA is all over successions characters and the way they talk to each other
Missed Peep Show connection: I am pretty sure that on a zoom call Logan has with one of the major shareholders telling him "It should be you" was the Byzantine Professor :)
I tried watching this show when it came out and got to episode 3 and just kinda gave up on it. As season 3 was about to come out I kept reading such rapturous praise for it I decided to give it another try. Man am I ever glad I did. Arguably the second best show of all time in my opinion.
The show draws a lot of inspiration, specifically for the directing decisions, from a movie called Festen, Celebration, in English, just like the name of the first episode in season 1.
Brian Cox does an interview where he said he was surprised by the change in character’s birth place. I doubt he ask for it, if he was surprised by it…. No?
Murdochs, Redstones and Hearsts, sure. But anyone from Long Island who ever suffered long term with Cablevision sees Charles and James Dolan & Family as well.
The fact that they didn't kill of Logan in Season #1, Roman is Roman not and not Greg, and Kendall is Kendall and not Roman makes for truly sound decision making. Show wouldn't be as good as it is if they went in any of those directions.
So do their names reflect the opposite of the character? Shiv is "pure" under the appearance of being progressive but the ultimately the most cut throat of the kids. Roman "strong" being the most meek and childlike basically soft and malleable. Conner "wise" I don't need to elaborate on this one. Logan's is interesting meaning "hollow" basically a dig that he is not feeling unfulfilled or has doubts in his character, ideology, motivation. He's not Hollow in the slightest he's filled up with confidence. His sore point is his kids which he feels does not reflect on him but is entirely their issue. Logan is fully confident in himself he is filled. Kendalls name "valley of the river Kent" I think is supposed to be Kendells over inflated ego and dreams of grandeur. That name includes so many titles and sounds very important and historical. when Kendell has hardly ever actually built anything himself and was just handed down success.
Reminds me more of the true life of Henry VIII and his worry over his line of succession. Henry would reward loyalty and then would turn. Tom may be rewarded but he may wind up being destroyed
@@gyang333 OP referenced a 600 year old account which even Shakespeare romanticized. The latter is still too polarizing not to be politically motivated, and is a morsel of insufferable bullshit in today's political discourse.
Brilliant absolutely brilliant show I pretty much have ever sent on HBO I don’t even know where to begin. I’ve been doing a little binge watching season three last night into season four wow I don’t even know what to say. The show is just so brilliant the writing the acting it’s just the best 📺🎬⭐️
Jeremy Strong is not a method actor. The method is a very particular way of getting into character. I'm so sick of ’the method’ being the only process people seem to talk about! Strong does not live in character, he just asks for some things to be done for real because it helps him get into the scene. Emotionally putting yourself in a state is more similar to stanislavski's emotional memory (like muscle memory not just remembering things that make you sad) and that's how he gets into character, it's very different to Christian bale living as someone with anorexia or viggo mortensen sleeping in the forest. Also Method acting is a terrible form of acting that does not achieve better results, Stanislavski the GOAT of naturalism rejected 'the method' and saw it as a bastardisation of his method. Sorry rant over lol
I don’t think Tom wins because although he helped Logan, Tom betrayed his daughter. He always reiterates that he loves his children. I also think Willow will possibly end up with the winner. She's beautiful, a hustler and never loved Conner
The clothing is very interesting. The top dog (Logan) can dress any damn way he wants as long as he/she is comfortable. IE: billionaire Mark Cuban at a Mavs game.
"Elizabeth Murdoch relates to the character of Shiv" wow I hate her already. Also THANK GAWD for Brian Cox making his birthplace Scotland instead of Quebec. I would resent the show so much even if it was equally good lol
Honestly I can’t even listen to this because the music is so overpowering a distracting. I’m gonna have to pass. Unfortunately I want to watch this. But it’s giving me a headache. There’s too much going on.
Which season got you hooked to this show?
From what i see here, none.
First 4 episodes, didn't even realise how addicted I got
Season 1 episode 1. The tone, witty banter and storyline.
The First season, absolutely love the humor
As soon as I saw two of my favorite actors were in it- Jeremy Strong and Matthew Macfadyen.
I just wanna say that Connor Roy was interested in politic at a very young age.
🤣🤣🤣
A truer statement was never uttered

A more entertaining detail than any of the ones mentioned in this video.
My fave egg is Greg the egg
Roman’s Lock Screen is a photo of him flipping off shiv
Lol the random cat picture in Rome’s photo gallery got me.
wow! I never noticed the Saddam thing, which should have jumped out at me... thanks!
Before I gave this show a chance my dad described it as “Lannisters in corporate America with less incest and more comedy” and I’ve been hooked since.
cool dad
Wow, this is a remarkably accurate description of the show!
Only slightly less incest 😂

Right! How did they miss this one?
I'm glad Jeremy Strong didn't get the part of Roman Roy. Can you imagine a method actor in that role? He'd be in jail.

Shiv is so annoying. Glad Tom stuck it to her.

Shiv’s nickname is also a scrappy make-shift weapon used to stab people in close quarters. Not so “pure”. It suits her.
Can’t get enough of this tour de force of a show. Thanks for the trivia! 🙏🏼🤗
Only one more season?!? They better get cracking with the plot progression. I really love this series
I think 5 seasons is perfect
Logan will “win” and the kids will “lose”. It’s all about Logan every season. No one will be in power, it’s all about Logan.
Georgia Pritchett deserves a mention as a writer on this brilliant show
I'm sure it's been said before but I would say this show also must get a lot of influence from The Lion in Winter, which Empire was also based on.

keeping with the F. Scott Fitzgerald references, Kendal literally says the words A Diamond as Big as the Ritz.
The WayStar Royco building where filming is at 28 Liberty St in downtown Manhattan. It is decidedly NOT at the WTC. Many crews film in that building.

15:01 - This gives a whole new meaning to that moment where Conner screams about being the eldest son.
Conor Roy was interested in politics at a very young age.
The show draws a lot of inspiration, specifically for the directing decisions, from a movie called Festen, Celebration, in English, just like the name of the first episode in season 1.

did you know Cherophobia is the word for the irrational fear of being happy.
