Why do I struggle to imagine Japan when I hear this song and always imagine Cheltenham?

somee duder Appreciate the popular cultural reference. An episode of “The Simpsons” whose treatment of the classic opera songs would, I think, be approved of by Messrs G&S. They definitely had a sense of humour.

Hate his adaption - Jonathon Miller is in a Simon Butterkiss documentary on G&S, declaring he hates them and that G&S’s work is racist and that is probably sang by UKIP voters. Idiotic comment. Germane Greer is saying likewise. Simon Butterkiss is a member of the D’Oyley Carte company.

@@DarrenMalin it's a play of it's time, sure. Doesn't excuse continuing to perform it in its original form in the modern day. I don't get why you would care about this change anyway, plays are performed in updated and variant forms *all the time*, why is it horrible to change this one play but not every other one in existence? Especially considering that the racist content in this play is completely superfluous and removing it doesn't effect anything apart from not having yellowface. Why is the use of yellowface and inaccurate Asian stereotypes so important that you've decided that it's a hill worth dying on?
