Absolutely Stunning intro......and it just gets better.......Amazing performance all round......Hairs on the neck and every part of the body stand up here.......
"Fumbling towards Ecstacy" without a doubt the greatest album by singer/songwriter. I always loved the songs but open the little paper in the CD and read the words-you'll find something that speaks to your life. Amazing album-I still have my original CD from Sam Goody.
One of the few artists to make it big that actually deserve it...an incredible vocalist, musician, and songwriter...I used to take flak when I was a Sergeant in the US Army Infantry for being a big fan of this woman, but her music is incredible.
Here is the conudrum. How do you put your faith in a musc industry that only boasts this type of talent 1 every three billion wannabe artists? Sarah McL. is the truth in living color. This girl transcends race, creed, religion, gender, and all the soical structures we put on society just by opening up her heavenly mouth. When she sings, I am completely humbled. And she seems to be an awesome person. Just did my third lilith fair and was blown away by Sarah.
@gravelandgrain100 It is really hard to disagree with that...Fumbling Towards Ecstacy is such a genius album...it is pretty much perfect. And this is coming from a guy who mostly listens to Thrice and bands like that.
@Pyrochyde And I've only been saying that since forever and no one in my circle gets it. I'm told that I'm an Aunt Thomasina for saying this and that's fine with me. As far as I'm concerned my holy trinity of female voices are Whitney/Mariah (They come as one to me), Sarah, and Teena Marie. Deal with it people. Beyoncé wishes she could do what Sarah doesn't even have to try to do. Sarah McLachlan writes, arranges, sings live, and plays instrument. She is END GAME. Period.
@morten4u i think it's just meant to say that they as talented as they may seem they are still overrated compared to artist that dont use sex as a way to sale music.
I remember hearing this song/seeing the videos and when she reached "that high note" it gave me chills. I had the privilege of seeing her in Nashville with a symphony at the end of June 2012. When she played this song, I had the strongest chills I have ever experienced in a live concert. I was literally shuddering for minutes AFTER she hit that note. I will never forget that feeling for the rest of my life.
Sarah is one of the best musicians out there today! Her music truely knows how to move someone emotionally and spirtually! Not many artists today that can do that. I love you Sarah!!!!
And also the mark of a true artist is to having multiple versions of one song and the live versions being equally stellar or better than the album version.. I have this version, the Mirrorball version and the LP version and I still can't decide which one I love more. I love the outerworld feeling of the album version and the way she does the "do dud do duh do" at the end, I love Mirroball's ending and how she changes it up. Ditto for the Afterglow version. All those high notes are delicious
I think I like this version even better than the one on the CD! Thanks for posting . . . anyone know what arena that was? And why it abruptly cuts out and has what seems to be over a minute of nothing but black?
Sarah is an A-R-T-I-S-T, meaning that she not only performs, but writes her own material. Like Elton John recently said, the problem with most of today's mainstream music is that these "performers" don't write their own material and are totally dependent and are only as good as the material furnished to them. Sarah, on the other hand, is a true artist, both writing and performing. She bows to NO ONE!!!
"Fear" Morning smiles like the face of a newborn child innocent unknowing Winter's end promises of a long lost friend speaks to me of comfort but I fear I have nothing to give I have so much to lose here in this lonely place tangled up in our embrace there's nothing I'd like better than to fall but I fear I have nothing to give Wind in time rapes the flower trembling on the vine nothing yields to shelter it from above they say temptation will destroy our love the never ending hunger but I fear I have nothing to give I have so much to lose here in this lonely place tangled up in our embrace there's nothing I'd like better than to fall but I fear I have nothing to give I have so much to lose I have nothing to give We have so much to lose...
If you want to hear the best recording of this song, get the album: Sarah McLachlan- Rarities, B-sides & other stuff. The FEAR remix is Incredible...... absoulutly incredible!!! I use it as a studio reference recording.
I love love Sarah. One of the few artists that sounds better live than on cd!! I love her music! Her voice! And damn she's HAWT!!! =) Bring on Lilith Fair!!! Cant wait!! weeeee!!!!!
Good God, was she beautiful back in the 90's! Her voice has changed, but i guess that comes with aging. I mean, . Mirrorball came out like 16 years ago. Still an amazing woman though.
Sarah cannot be compared to anyone (please stop trying!) in terms of complexity, stage presence, attention to detail, professionalism of performance, and dare I say spirituality and even sensuality with the possible exception of Dido, and even then, Sarah's in a whole other universe above her. Her voice is literally heaven sent in my opinion. This is the music of a higher plane of existence.
I took your advice months ago and since then I have played Secretly and Charlie Brown over two hundred times according to my itunes play count. Her voice is like nothing I've ever heard. She is awesome, and the band is spectacular too! And I kept thinking, I know this song (Secretly) and I watched Cruel Intentions a few days after your suggestion and realized I had it all along! It's on the soundtrack!
They aren't even in the same spiritual class as Sarah McLachlan, Tori Amos and Kate Bush, nevermind the intellectual and musical one. That said, Sarah McLachlan is in a class all by herself. I think I love her more than Tori and Kate, and that's hard to do. I was put off when I saw her back in the early 90's at the Orpheum in New Orleans. She is now incredible, and blows me away with her talent.
Is it just me or does the mic squeak a bit when she does some of the louder/higher falsetto notes? On that note, the fact that the song is sung mostly in falsetto is what initially drew me to it. It's a really beautiful song. Back in 1999 when I bought the Mirrorball Album, I skipped over this song entirely and now, nearly ten years later I sorely regret not noticing it until later on.
@fumbler8 You saw her live, huh? That must have been sick, she is a ridiculous talent. "Fear" is a great tune; I think there is a song called "Elsewhere" from the FTE album, Track # 6 if my memory serves me right, that I also think is really good...yeah, it is an incredible album, no doubt, full of good-to-great songs.
@WinterSleep85 I am in the middle of composing my Top 100 songs of all time. To put that in perspective, let me tell you that I am 40 years old and have been listening to music most of my life. I'm not done with my list yet, but I can tell you that this song is in my Top 20. It's just the most hauntingly beautiful song I've ever heard.
@grsurflove FTE is my favourite album by anyone anytime. Second would be Paul Simon - Graceland, followed by Janis Joplin - Pearl. I didn't like Circle or Fear at first, but they have grown on me and Fear is now one of my favourites! Saw Sara at Lilith on Saturday in Toronto...wowzers.
This is probably one of the most greatest songs of all time... and sarah's voice is so amazing and unique...
Amazing how she jumps up a whole scale, like it's as easy.....wow. goose bumps for sure!
Absolutely Stunning intro......and it just gets better.......Amazing performance all round......Hairs on the neck and every part of the body stand up here.......
That voice still gives me chills after all these years.
favorite sarah m song - those high notes give me goosepimplies.
BEEN IN THIS CONCERT !!!! CRIED!!!!!
the answer to your question is simple: She hasn't sold her soul and hasn't used her body to sell her music.
WOWOWOWOWOW she is like the 5th wunder of the world! Theat is AMAZING!!!!!!
HEAVENLY!
Goose bumps!!!!! Owh My God!!!
Such a beautiful song, again from Sarah!!!
Love her, her voice and her music!
"Fumbling towards Ecstacy" without a doubt the greatest album by singer/songwriter. I always loved the songs but open the little paper in the CD and read the words-you'll find something that speaks to your life. Amazing album-I still have my original CD from Sam Goody.

Wow. That a person can have such a voice. :)
She's ethereal!!!
She is the Women, she is the Voice..
I love this song! Really liked the ending of this song on her Mirrorball album, but here....it's alright. She rocks! :)
can't even describe how much I love this...
thanks so much for posting

"Fumbling Towards Ecstacy" ..the greatest album in music history by a singer/songwriter?
Without a doubt, yes.
Thanks for posting this amazing performance. Sarah's lyrics and vocals are unreal. Keep on rocking!!!!!

2:18 for the win!!!
Truly amazing
To enjoy my beer, today, I choose this performance.......
Voice of an angel
i agree she messes it up live
@gravelandgrain100 It is really hard to disagree with that...Fumbling Towards Ecstacy is such a genius album...it is pretty much perfect. And this is coming from a guy who mostly listens to Thrice and bands like that.
3 people are idiots... this is heaven sent - from the lyrics to vocal performace... No words can't describe her voice quality...
So true.
@YoussefFishere there always are crazies who hate everything!
there is not a bad song on Fumbling Towards Ecstasy...i wish she still made music like this......
forces of nature
I always wondered how this would sound live. It was such a heavily-produced song on the album. Sounds great here, though!
Beyonce is a decent performer, but vocally talented wise, shes a pawn and Sarah is the Queen.
@BellaBellucci69 Loreena McKennit is pretty awesome as well.
@Pyrochyde And I've only been saying that since forever and no one in my circle gets it. I'm told that I'm an Aunt Thomasina for saying this and that's fine with me. Such a pretty song but yet so difficult to sing
u mean brightman ???????i agree ...
@kaliyuta
no...and they are divorced
@morten4u i think it's just meant to say that they as talented as they may seem they are still overrated compared to artist that dont use sex as a way to sale music.
yikes! when she leaves the piano and hits those high notes... almost too much to handle!
Lovely video, thanks so much for sharing. If you get a minute, please come by my channel and take a listen my original music. I hope you enjoy.
shitty concert film but awesome music
That harmony starting at 2:00 is just... perfect. We all know Sarah is amazing, but kudos to the back up singer(s) as well.
I come back here every now and then to enjoy :)
Sarah is one of the best musicians out there today! Her music truely knows how to move someone emotionally and spirtually! Not many artists today that can do that.

She's really impressive! A real talent! Unfortuately underrated, in Italy is so difficult to find her CDs :-(
Io ho tutto il suo materiale e andai in America per vedere il suo concerto! Però è vero, purtroppo non ha mai fatto spettacoli qui.
how does anyone climb to a register thst high, and that beautifully? a true gift sarah is to all of us.
This was at the Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto - summer of 2004 or 2005 (?) ..I was at this concert - amazing!
imka170 is she better than morrisette
SHE'S AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lord..when she goes to those high notes...chills all over. She rocks!!!
I think I like this version even better than the one on the CD! Thanks for posting . . . anyone know what arena that was? And why it abruptly cuts out and has what seems to be over a minute of nothing but black?
she sings like an angel!

When this woman sings, I hear angels singing. Brings tears to your eyes.
ok the hair is standing on the back of my neck, and I don't have much but peach fuzz there, but it's standing alright!
HOW THE HELL CAN SHE HIT THAT HIGH NOTE. Insane.
I had row 13 center seats at Anaheim Pond in 2006 amazing show
I love love love the way she sings the last bit of this song
"Fear"
Morning smiles
like the face of a newborn child
innocent unknowing
Winter's end
promises of a long lost friend
speaks to me of comfort
but I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
here in this lonely place
tangled up in our embrace
there's nothing I'd like
better than to fall
but I fear I have nothing to give
Wind in time
rapes the flower trembling on the vine
nothing yields to shelter it
from above
they say temptation will destroy our love
the never ending hunger
but I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
here in this lonely place
tangled up in our embrace
there's nothing I'd like
better than to fall
but I fear
I have nothing to give
I have so much to lose
I have nothing to give
We have so much to lose...
The notes and pitches in this song is crazy...but she reaches them perfectly and beautifully...I think I'm in love
If you want to hear the best recording of this song, get the album: Sarah McLachlan- Rarities, B-sides & other stuff. The FEAR remix is Incredible...... absoulutly incredible!!! I use it as a studio reference recording.

this came out in the mid 2000s but okay...
Fear came out in '93. Not sure when this video was uploaded or when she performed this particular piece-but this song came out in the early '90's.
WOW!!
She's amazing! Great performance!
Simply put: wow.
Wow that was incredible :)

Holy vocal control!
