I think the point is, instead of spending the money on just another slick music clip she sent all that money to where it was most needed. It made me cry.
Yeah... a shame the British "royal family" don't understand the sentiments of this. Instead we see the latest addition, American actress Meghan Markle, sashaying around in US$13,000 designer dresses out in Tonga. Oct. 2018, as she and her hubby Prince Harry are on a "royal tour".

the first time I watched this, I thought it was someone criticizing her. The first part throws you off, but if you don't watch the end, which many may not, you'll end up thinking she is being criticized for spending money on her videos and yet singing about helping people. I LOVE the song, but I wish that first text frame was not there.
This video is a rude awakening for us all. I was sharing with my husband how great this world really could be if we only would let go of all greed and hatred we see everywhere. I was sharing with him how easy it is to criticize those who are wealthy and ask why can't they help out? But we forget that most of us have way more than what we need. Yet it is easier to point fingers and we forget that change starts you. Material things truly don't bring real happiness and these people that live in the worst living conditions truly are way more grateful and happier than most of us. Thank you Sarah for this video it makes me cry every time.
couldn't have said it better... Blame is such a pointless act... the 'blame' begins with ALL us looking at the mirror and taking a good hard look at our own selves. Until then, I am sorry to say, not much will change. Although I am an eternal optimist at heart forever, it will come as more people understand this deeply. Especially us in the 'west'...we have anything and everything we could ever need or want, we point fingers at the 'rich' for their lavish lifestyles (i'm from a lower mid class, educated) and I could care less if wealthy people wish to live their lives how they want to, I never would choose that lifestyle, that's a choice....that is NOT what this is about in my humble opinion. I honestly believe, many of us have everything at our disposal, we are at a point where we don't know what to do NEXT....we are getting bored w the same old cycles of routines, restless, our hearts are screaming for change to help to give meaning to our lives....a Spiritual meaning that was LOST in this materialistic era we created, which I believe was necessary, everything is at is should be...NOW is the time to find our was TOGETHER to EVOLVE to the next level.....not talking of religion, and not saying go away with it, I'm not a radical person....I'm speaking of a deeper meaning to What the heck are we TRULY HERE ON THIS GREAT EARTH TO DO? sit and waste away, not helping out fellow brothers and sisters? I think, no I KNOW NOT. It's a time to be understanding, to listen to others who may not agree and be okay with that, stop trying to be 'right' all the time and accept others are diffferent and have different views and beliefs and that OKAY TOO... LOVE THEM ANYWAY! I don't know where you live, but it was beautiful to see these conversations are being had...brought a smile to my heart... :)

I am so moved by Sarah Maclachlan's sensitivity to humanity and her artistry in expressing it...I think that is the highest gift anyone can have. It's very hard to watch this and not tear up. Even though I'm a first generation of Southeast Asian descent and grew up in the U.S., I still feel very torn between the capitalistic culture here and the humanitarian needs of the world...
I love how Sarah uses her music to bring awareness and shed light to the fact that people can do their part to help. She's an advocate for all. Such a beautiful soul and voice. We need more artists like her..

I've seen her perform seven times, so unless she's been lip-syncing to the same recording, it really IS her unadulterated voice.
In the early 90s, I worked at a record store. Her second album had come out, and she was on tour, and playing in town (New Orleans) that night. She came to my district manager's office and sang two songs for us (about 10 or 12 people), sitting on a chair. She mentioned that she had just woke up shortly before she came, and that she was slightly hung over.
And she sounded exactly this good.
Sarah's music has helped me so much,through dark days and massive amounts of depression and self-doubt.
I know what you mean, recently a very close friend of mine passed away, all i do is hear her songs cause, there are people who have a life much worse and harder then I do.

I must've watched this video a hundred times. And it still puts a lump in my throat, how vast the suffering of people in this world.
Too many are apathetic and don't want to hear about it. I have news for those people; these problems aren't going away and in fact are getting worse in many places. And even if you do not witness it where you are, it can affect you too someday because oppression breeds hatred and violence.

Saw Sarah live in The Austin City Limits venue. Her voice was clear, pure, and strong. Having been to too many concerts to count, this one was the best ever, hands down.

But all those who work in the industry need to make a living. Electricians, grips, editing staff, studio techs, caterers, etc..--they're either working or will need aid themselves. I agree in general with what this video is promoting--and we all need to do our part--but my challenge is that those who, in the long run, profit the most from these projects might be in a better position to send more aid. That as opposed to taking funds from folks living paycheck to paycheck. I'm not saying this of Ms McLachlan, but there are those executives, sports figures, and entertainers who sit on riches and things which are much more disposable.

Free speech for journalists who hold authorities accountable, protecting people from governments via online privacy against mass surveillance, women's rights like abortion access, wealth equality, and other things are getting attacked to benefit the few wealthiest men that destroy people's lives. Julian Assange is still imprisoned. Oligarchs are still spying on their slaves' online activities. Women are moving to different states or countries for better healthcare. The few wealthiest people keep getting insanely richer while everyone else fights for crumbs.
