  • Gulhan Sen, a Turkish presenter & producer well known for her tv travel show "Gulhan'in Galaksi Rehberi",
talks about how travelling shapes personality and makes you aware of the distinction between given & chosen identities.
Gulhan Sen talks about her experiences gained through her travels and explains how travelling helped her realize the "given identity".
About TEDx, x = independently organized event
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I loved this! I agree with everything she said. Very beautiful insight into travelling and the benefits it has. I loved that she said "you start to see people with your heart - as a global citizen" :)

She just simply said what each person knows deep down in their heart is true. At the very core of all of our human nature we know we are all connected and as one, there is a reason why we have so much empathy and sensitivity to others. There's a reason why we want to say hello to people walking down the street that we don't know. There's a reason why we might feel upset if the other person doesn't say hello, there is a reason why we like to hold the door for others and to give kindness. Right now more than ever especially in America, the powers that be are doing all that they can to point out the differences of what separates us, political ideologies, differences between genders, and there are some very strong minded proponents of each, I can really infuriate the other, she is right that we need expand our horizons and our consciousness.

Talk was expecially good about the differences of chosen and given identity.
As a person who also lives in Turkey, I can say that nearly every value that our people carries today is given.
Living a life with chosen identity is rare and usulaly being suprresed by goverment or the media (which mostly belongs to the goverment)
But in the and people with chosen identities makes the diffences to the world and lives a happy life.
Thanks Gulhan for making a point on that. :)
BTW: I was really annoyed with the audience in the first row, who was playing with her phone. Rude witch

Hahaha I wasn’t playing with my phone. I was in the organisation team and responsible for managing the social media accounts that day. I was just sharing some snaps from her talk and replying some messages and mentions. :)

Ohhhh she is from Bulgaria :O turk from Bulgaria ...... my first boyfriend.... which I searched information for about 35 years is from Bulgaria..... a turk from Bulgaria...... (I met him 1981..... he wanted to marry me...)

      @itsmesia2469 6 лет назад +1

Well I got to know last year... after searching for info about him all my life... that he is dead...... it was a big chock for me..... extrem chock...I nearly ended up in hospital because of the chock............. I just wanted to know what happened to him.... also of course if he would been alive.. I KNOW he would be married and have children.... and I would have been so happy for him.................. I ONLY wanted to know what has happened to him in his life.... (but some ppl I got in contact with last year in fb... turks from Bulgaria who say they are relatives to him.. said he was dead many years ago (if they told the truth).. unfortunately they can NOT speak english so I can not get any more info about his life............ (I would like to know SO MUCH more:. how he died what happened ... was he killed..? Did he get children.. etc etc...etc..)

    • @itsmesia2469

Now I can not listen at all about what she speaks about.... it is totally irrelevant for me now (I only now think of that she is a turk from Bulgaria... as my first bf..)

Very similar to Elif Shafak's Ted talk. By the way, did she made any rehearsal before? Her sound is itching my ears, she uses a Turkish-English pronounciation style. And also her vocabulary is very limited.

  • @truthwillrulex777

Nice speech but the things she said could be said by a highschool student.
plus I didnt know you can be a ted speaker with a bad English. You are giving a speech for God's sake and you are "a tv presenter", (I know peope who watch your show dont even know basic English) all those major, not even minor grammatical mistakes. at least try to be worthy of how much you earn.

SHE PROBABLY HAS NOT THE SAME ACCENT AS ENGLISH PEOPLE BUT SHE TRIED AND SHE'S ON TED. I BET YOU CAN'T SPEAK OTHER LANGUAGES AND WILL NEVER HAVE THE COURAGE TO GO ON TED AND EXPRESS YOURSELF. THE MOST VALUABLE THING HERE IS HER SPEECH AND NOT HER ENGLISH OR HER ACCENT AND I KNOW LOADS OF PEOPLE UNDERSTOOD HER.
