- Do you know how many countries there are in the world? 21-year-old Lexie does because she took on the adventure to visit them all. She broke the Guinness World Record for the youngest person to travel to every country in the world. To give this achievement some context, more people have been to space than have traveled to all 196 sovereign nations and approximately less than 20 of those people are women. In this TEDx talk, Lexie shares her stories from around the world to inspire others, especially young women, to follow their dreams, to get out of their comfort zone and to stimulate personal growth. Lexie Alford was born in a small town called Nevada City, California. She has been traveling for as long as she can remember with her family who started a travel agency. She traveled to all 196 countries by 21 years old, breaking the Guinness World Record for the Youngest Person to Travel to Every Country by over 3 years. To find out more about Lexie, follow @lexielimitless on Instagram or visit her website lexielimitless.com. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx
Such a good job Lexie 👏

I was going to reply that she is a Yes Fam..and I see ur comment
Okay found the comment!
SEEK DISCOMFORT
Great job and great achievement.
Money s not everything but everything require money
You are so, so right!
Yes, and lack of $ has me homebound.
Love doesn't require money
Yea so money is everything
Not true at all. You can work in exchange for board and meals, use a talent or skill in exchange for a service. If you want something enough, you'll find a way to get it.
Looking at the comments I feel that the message from her talk was not very well understood. It’s not about traveling it’s about you. It about how we stay in our comfort zone because we are scared. She’s not saying hi travel the world she’s saying to start saying yes. When you get uncomfortable is when you start to grow.
Agree
Yes theory
Sonia Martinez agreed
Exactly!!!
And the way to know that you are uncomfortable is to look for uncertainty in future.
It's not about how she grew up, or all the advantages she's had that allowed her to break this record. What's incredible to me is that she recognized these advantages she had and started reaching for this goal that was possible, but still crazy! And she did it. There are so many people in her position that don't make the most of their situations, and look at all she's done. Congrats Lexie!
How she did do all? Because for this much money 💰 need and it can’t possible. Maybe she is richest by born that’s why she did investment money in travel
@@keyurbhalodiya3359she’s not rich 😂 he parents had a travel company, that’s all
To have travelled around the world but still be nervous to give a talk to a room full of strangers is a lesson that comfort zones can be miles away or right at your feet, it’s not where they are, it’s the distance that it takes to face them and in facing them that’s where the lesson lies! Congrats on your courage!
I mean, it's also a huge difference in scale and context.
Sure you'll meet many strangers - but it's not like traveling means that you're bound to be the center of attention with hundreds of people in a huge room staring at you.
Stick to flipping burgers...
What has travelling to do with giving a speech? On the other hand you should think that the best speaker should be good at travelling.
how did you manage to travel the world?
Well said.
Quick question, if you are traveler since kid, would travelling be your comfort zone? And getting out from comfort zone would be ... to not travelling?
I would say yes and no. I have been on two trips that lasted more than 6 months and travelled to well over 20 countries but I started to study at university now. It's always discomforting when you can't read signs and have no ability to commumicate other than your hands. At the same time I miss the adrenalin rush and the excitement to see something new every day. I honestly struggle with the monotony of daily life and the fact that I have to stay in the same place for at least a couple years.
No, in your case getting out of your comfort zone would be traveling to space 🚀.
Amazing Ray Did you guys listen to the whole discourse? Smh... You totally missed the point, numb-skulls!
Fred26498
She stays in five star hotels. Never talks to the locals. She is an entitled rich kid.
lol true I've been taking flight since younger I move a lot and literally am staying still for once and everything about staying put giving me anxiety signing a lease, relationships, buying a car, it's such a commitment.
I do think that comfort zones are not just about leaving but also staying. I backpacked and travelled for 4 years and now I’ve settled because I’m studying my bachelors degree. Staying in one place has proven to be hard and has pushed me out of comfort zones I developed from traveling. It isn’t about distance in my opinion, but about facing internal fears that make you uncomfortable and cause change and growth within you. As a traveler it’s easy for people to think I’m fearless and brave, which I am, but in fact staying still has been a greater challenge for me than solo backpacking ever was.
I want to also say thank you for this talk. Amazing to see a young women as the Guinness world record holder!
Agree. I also get bored easily and need to change. I travel a lot, I moved to another country, I change jobs every two, three years, not good for long relationships, so I have been mostly by myself. Found the same thing over and over again, staying in one place for years... that's definitely more challenging for me than moving to another country or traveling to a new country
Wow, you just described my situation! I decided to study after travels, too, and sometimes it's hard to realize you must play with the cards you were dealt with - if you don't have something where you currently live, you can't just leave and find it somewhere else. It is just the way it is.
“will i regret not doing this?” has now become my motto.
👍
jumps to the moment where I check my bank account and I'm poor
isn't about people's mindset but its problem of money shortage
It's still in the mindset because you won't be broke if you are wise enough on how to manage your own money.
@@lance7095 Lul, tell that to poor people and expect to get hit.
@@lance7095 How did you assume that not having enough money equates to being broke because you spend unwisely? Some people's lives are tough. They can hardly make ends meet let alone have enough money to travel. Travelling the world is amazing but its also reserved for those who are in somewhat a place of privilege.
Maybe your cash is in Euro or dollars which is actually strong monetry but how about some one who lives in Africa or an under developed country and his monthly salary is 100 Euro .how can he manage this amount of money furthermore you have to know too that you won't get visa easily if you live in poor country in order to reach Europe or USA.
@@lance7095 that is possibly the most arrogant and privileged thing I've ever heard anyone say
At 21 I was getting hammered at the club, flirting with shallow girls and having fake friends with no direction in life...
I'm 25 now, still dreaming of doing what she's done. Hats off to the amazing young lady she is.
I still have life yet to live.
At 28, have you done it yet?
@@jovianmonteiro5780 😀
Currently 27 and trying to do it
That conclusion dissolved me into tears. “I knew I will regret it for the rest of my life if I didn’t try”
The way she speaks shows her experience world wide. In her age she has acquired so much knowlege and her talk is so fluent, so calm and delivered what she wanted to. She has a capabilities to attract people and make them listen her. Usually travellers possess long vision about future and plan. She has that. When we are in different land as far as safety is concerned ...!!! I know to the max extend we have to be on our own. She is bold and learnt all those point.
Try doing that with a developing country passport. You had a head start just by your birthplace alone Lexie.
Having said that, well done.
Exactly
I assume that you did already travel to all the countries you are allowed to with your passport, right ?
@Bert Why does that matter? It's okay to acknowledge privilege.
Surely you can still go to a lot
Bert I think she seems very humble and like a good person. There’s no sense in being bitter towards someone for being born into a different set of privileges. It’s life, there will always be more and less fortunate people.
Fine talk. Lexie's last sentence "how uncomfortable are you willing to be in order to reach your fullest potential" is the crux of her talk. I feel travelling is one activity which gives such amazing experiences, that it often opens up our mind to entirely new vistas. It also helps us discover ourselves, besides getting to know new places n people n their cultures. For people with inhibitions, travelling can do wonders. Kudos to Lexie for having travelled to so many countries, perhaps to many of them all by herself. It takes immense courage for a girl / woman to do so, particularly to certain regions known to be hostile or even dangerous for women tourists. Way to go !
bump the speed to 1.25-1.5 gonna save you a lot of time

This woman is such a beautiful, wonderful speaker. I really enjoyed her speech 💮
Is she bring the inspiration and motivation to you?
Yed
She speaks so clearly and beautifully. She's CAPTIVATING 😍
I just found Lexi's youtube channel and have been blown away. I love traveling too but wow, she blows it out the park! So humble
she was smiling the entire ted talk. How jolly and wonderful. Good one.
I enjoyed this talk! I got to see 20 countries in 1976-77 with a backpack and heard about so many more from other travelers. If folks can travel, I recommend it, because it's not just about going into the unknown - I found it exhilarating to live in different sceneries, meet people and hang out with the locals, try new languages, eat new food, visit interesting museums, learn about the place, and just have adventures all along the way. It was fun most of the time!
I am just returning from my first international and first solo trip around europe... Yes it wasnt tough as she encountered but it did get lonely at some point and then I realised I began to like being alone with my thoughts and my ideas... I would travel to the places as I felt and learnt alot about different cultures!!
at first I didnt feel any difference but I know my self confidence has increased and I have better respect for myself
Good for you!! What an amazing experience:)
Did you visit Latvia?
I was touched by this Talk, and I had the same experience when I spent 9-month in different countries. It is all right to do lots of things by ourselves while it could be better if we could have someone go together. One day, the person left, and it still became a great memory that lasts for our whole life.
What an inspiring person! Not only learning from childhood experiences, but developing them into a profession like travel photography, and committing time and resources to an impressive goal. Well done!
She is such a happy soul. I love this girl.
Wow! Lexie, I'm surprised you had traveled all 196 countries by the age of 21.
Now that I am 18, I have only traveled to two countries.
This talks was really helpful to me, who had a lot of things to fear.👍
“Will I regret not doing this?” was most impressive to me.
I want to be a person who speaks naturally in front of many people and gives enlightenment, like you.
I subscribed to your youtube because I wanted to hear interesting more stories about your trip!
May you be happy!😉
Are you Indian
You passport will not allow you to do so.
You gave an incredible speech, congrats Lexie!
Lexie you are phenonmenal. I related to so much of what you were saying about learning to be truly alone, the appreciation you now have for your loved ones, the deep understanding you have gained that we all are essentially one, and that if when it comes to decision making... would I regret it later? I always ask myself that, and it had always encouraged me forward to at least try! If you never go, you'll never know. Amazing talk. Thank you for sharing!
So inspiring... Such stories should be publicized more often so people like us who are really keen towards traveling will get inspired and get some knowledge about dos and don'ts while traveling... Great
Lovely to hear the same things which I felt or experienced while travelling as a backpacker to every state of my country, India.
Enjoyed listening to you Lexie🌻. Such courage❤️
I Met this great girl in 6 different countries during my countless journeys around the world so far I've been 36 🙃 she was faster than me 🙏 all love Lexie

She’s so humble love her speech
So inspiring she was given loads of money to travel from her mom and she courageously took the money to go travel. Heroic!
@J G Why are you so resentful? Why does this affect you so much?
@@TheRaizo101 Capitalism affects everybody
J G okkk but there’s tons of nomads and ppl who travel that aren’t wealthy. They just have side huddled/ skills and travel low cost. It takes more planning but they get where they need/ want to be.
@J G She seems like a wonderful soul though! And even though the opportunity was easy for her it doesn't mean the actual journey was. It seems like an incredible opportunity she was given though.
@J G Ah, okay. I wasn't there the day they taught us to judge people for being born in certain families and decide to do something with the opportunities they had. I also wasn't there the day they taught us that mindless hate for free content on the Internet was equivalent to a well formulated opinion. Nor the day when they said we must definitely drag race into the discussion. Man, I need to catch up.
She has family who's have travel business from decade already. She travelled since very childhood with family. That's the way she achieved her travel dream easily with full knowledge.
There is no "easy" way to travel to every country in the world - especially alone. She had this idea and made it happen on her own.
@@TravelingwithKristin "made it happen on her own" just like how Kylie Jenner became a billionaire on her own?
@@RoshinrajRavi that's soooooooooo different. Did you read her website? She's been working, saving money, and self-funding her travel since she was 12. Quite different from growing up on a reality show.

Great talk! Inspirational and insightful. Thank You!
Amazing, thank you so much for this!
It made me cry... I feel that I've had validated my entire life.
All the times I thought I should've stayed in my comfort zone instead of going for my 'outside'.
Thank you so much again
Travelling is a form of seeking new experiences. Arguably similar to exploring new mountains to climb, or different parts of our oceans to dive. She’s just giving her take on her “new experience” thingi. Cool, thanks for sharing 😊
Her voice is so clear and sweet.I love your talk. It's so inspiring.
I agree money is not everything but passion. There are many rich people who dont travel even to next state in a country. I traveled all 7 continents solo and graduated with PhD Biomedical Science by 30. I was one of the younger lot on the Antarctica ship and it was a thrilling adventure. I had to save for one year with my first job after PhD to tick off my last continent. I know its crazy to spend your $$$ beginning of career when many at career end or retirement go to Antarctica. When I look back exactly 10 years ago now I was in my first country outside India- Italy for summer research during my undergrad and the courage to start exploring the world solo was born in me 🙂. Then on my science research took me places and I explored more on my own. No matter the language foreign and unknown to me but I connected with the locals who gave me shelter, food, shared their culture; be it Kenya, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Peru or Chile 🙂.
The journey of exploration never ends and even before one adventure is done, the next few are in line 😃. Use your transits well in a new country and if you are not in hurry.
Just follow simple formula- every year one new place/country, adventure depending on budget and time. Ofcourse I would club nearby countries if it is easy to travel across like Chile and Argentina. Finally, with an Indian passport I became quiet an expert in dealing my visas independently always. Last year I booked 3 visa interviews on a single leave day with all documents right. Earlier I got 7 visas in 4 months planning each visa application at right time depending which one takes longer time and how early we can apply. Don't have the privilege of passport with 150+ countries visa free entry 😃.
what a wonderful ted talk, most of the people have so routine life(maby boring)and actually you are inspiring who have inspiration....cheers

We are having the wrong conversation about our comfort zone. The phrase “getting out of your comfort zone” is thrown around so much today online and in motivational quotes that it’s begun to lose its meaning.
And this is because we don’t clearly understand what our comfort zone is, and it seems counterintuitive to leave it because it’s where we feel the most safe.
Tears in my eyes. Thank you.
Regarding to the comfort zone, everyone has their own interpretations and here you added something spectacular and critical points.
Great job!
Such an amazing young lady to be brave and determined to undertake such a project.

This video really has useful and motivational information . The girl tells the audience her story , her mistakes and shares her experience . Travel is not an easy thing, and in order to make even a small trip, you will need a lot of expenses, both physical and moral, as well as financial. There should also be willpower and the ability to control yourself in different situations, as the girl said . She explained the benefits of getting out of the comfort zone, told how many opportunities this action gives. Using her own example, she showed the result of this action and shared the impressions that she received after leaving her usual environment .

I had my hopes up for this speech. This young lady is very inspiring and had a very good talk. Congrats for that. But for me this talk is like an answer to that question "a reader or a traveler knows more?"
Despite the opportunities she had from birth and having all the advantages like not being a citizen of an islamic country, i believe she did her best. I am not trying to undermine her achievements but hearing the wedding gunshots being her most terryfing moments of her life sounds like a very very lucky life to me. And travelling all of those countries and still these shallow life lessons.. i mean i have learned much more from people who never got out of their village.
