Don’t worry the calendar was perfect! The idea is exactly the same. And in a way 2020 feels like a year we somehow missed! LOL! We need to plan it again, haha. You are so right about remembering why you homeschool. I am always super tempted by the idea of going true Classical, so tempted all the time to devote ourselves almost only to Greece and Rome and Latin... and that is because of my husband’s background and a great deal of our thinking tendencies. But then I remember my number ONE reason to homeschool and it would take my kids almost in a completely different direction. It is hard to bring yourself back to where you know your goals are 😄
Yes, that is exactly what I was talking about! I feel so much more grounded if I am working from my why instead of other people's influence or frustration that something isn't working!
@@angelalewis6146 I will start school in July or August and break for 6 weeks around the holidays then break again for 6 weeks in the early summer along with 6 weeks on 1 week off throughout the year.
I’d also be very interested in a video about what you do during your week off from school in the six weeks on/one week off schedule! For example how do you still have structure in your day?
Mostly, I just give everyone the time off - lots of free play :) I chat a bit about it at the end of the is video: ruclips.net/video/KdCJaLXOm90/видео.html
I see that you’re a huge historical fiction reader. Have you considered reading books alongside the units your kids are learning? I would love this sort of immersive reading with my kids but I’m not a huge reader. I listen to audiobooks to fall asleep but am curious about choosing ones that specifically go alongside my kids’ learning. 🤔
This is a FANTASTIC idea!! And I think I will have to steal it. I am currently reading Little House on the Prairie to my son at bedtime and my mom listens in via FaceTime. I suggested that she read Caroline by Sarah Miller while we read LHOTP and it has been so fun because she talks about the way the same story was told or what was included or not (I read it too long ago to remember much). I am going to be doing Torchlight Level 1 with my son next year and I am now going to make my own booklist to go along with his. Thank you for the suggestion!
Yes, this is a wonderful idea! I was reading a non-fiction book on dinosaurs while doing the dinosaur unit study with my kids! I'm currently in the ancients and considering picking up Susan Wise Bauer's History of the Ancient World!
I'm so excited to hear about the budgeting! It's hard to plan how much to spend on homeschool materials and there seems to be so many new shiny things coming out all the time!
As you're a homeschooling Mom do you do work with your children during the summer or do you take off all summer? I want to do an afterschool program program what advice can you give me?
Hi! We typically take about 4-5 weeks off during the summer - nothing too crazy. But this year I plan on keeping up with our reading because that has been the struggle subject but letting everything else go for those week!
Haha... I was wondering when you would realize you had the wrong calendar. We also use the sabbath schedule, and it’s been great for us. I ordered our curriculum yesterday and I can’t believe my oldest son is going to be a senior... it was the last time ordering curriculum for him and I was a little sad!
This is so incredibly helpful! Thank you so much for sharing this!
You're welcome!
Love this series!
Glad it has been helpful!
I'm going into my second homeschool year, have I started trying to plan too late?? Thank you for all the info!
Not at all! We start school in July, so I tend to start my planning early ... haha, I also like to plan!
@@sciencemama haha phew! I might have had a mini panic attack. Respect to you, though! I have been eating up and thoroughly appreciating your videos!

Excited for all the planning videos!
I love all things planning :)
I can't believe another school year is almost over! I enjoyed your planning video, thank you! I'm going to put off thinking about this for awhile:)
I know I can't believe it is almost April!
Love this yearly overview, I plan to do a Sabbath schedule as well.
That sounds interesting. How are you doing that ?

I agree with the temptation for all the new shiny things :) The budgeting collab goes up tomorrow - excited to hear what everyone thinks :)

Haha, I can't believe I didn't notice until the end :) I can't even imagine having a senior!
Yes, bad fits based on age. MOH was TOO MUCH for a first year HS mom teaching a 6 year old. Now at almost 10, it is a joy.
Yes, it is good to remember to try again sometimes with curriculum - age makes such a big difference!
