Moving away from the Subaru EG33 Engine for something different.

  • It was not an easy call to pull the plug on this engine swap after everything we have been through. But sometimes enough is enough. After Sub 1K miles and 1 track day, the cylinder heads bit the dust. We had warped 22 of the valves, bent 2, and need to do another round of fully built heads to keep this car alive. Financially it doesn't make sense to keep trying to push an engine that is ripping itself part. While we were HARD on this car it is time to move to a new engine platform that is more modern, can take some power, and will last longer than this one has.
    What we did was far from a waste as well. Doing this swap taught me more than any forum, online class or video could and I am grateful for that. But it's time to move on to blu V3 (Ver 1: EJ25, Ver 2: EG33 Ver 3: ?....)

    Gotta be the FA24. It retains the 'spirit' of the car in a sense. Also, I feel like Coyote swaps are a little overdone. But primarily I feel like a v8 would lose the character of the car.

    You’re making the right decision (speaking as someone who’s almost ready to put a fully built EG33 back into its SVX). I am very, very interested in working with you to figure out a fair price for the engine management, harness, header, intake, TB, coils, and fuel system. Oh, and Coyote all day long - just not sure it you’re going to have room in the engine bay without chopping the wheelwells up. Peace!

    I understand but, how about those who makes 800+WHP on 4 cylinders, what do they do to the engine to make this work, and can't this also be done on an EG33?

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад +1

      One of the main issues is the oil system. For the 4 cysts the oil pumps can easy supply enough pressure for the whole engine. With having more bearings to supply oil to it can’t keep up.
      There’s more valve train options as well for EJ stuff unless we start spending big big money on the EG heads

    AWD twin turbo Coyote would be insane. You need to make this completely different from everything else out there. As for the next engine it all depends what you want to do with the car. 5L coyote TT would make a killer drag car but wont have good handling on track as it will be front heavy. FA24 would be more suited with track use. I prefer track cars as i find going straight boring..... none of the less both builts will male great content.

    Turn the power down to just have a streetable car, 600-650HP is more than adequate for a casual driver, Subaru engines can't handle 50 pounds of boost, I don't care what anyone says as I've had Subaru's since I was 16 and I'm 37 now, Subaru never designed these engines for this, Subarus have such a bad rap because of things like this, Keep the oil full and a conservative tune and it will be fine, Not sure about Bator but all the vehicles I see on that dyno in his garage with you and Devin the cars all have massive issues afterward, These problems should be picked up during the tuning process especially a situation like valve float, sheared timing gears, not a good situation as every dyno run costs thousands of dollars afterward.

    • @Smeedia
      @Smeedia  5 месяцев назад

      It’s not as easy as just put it back together and turn it down anymore, the heads require roughly 3.5-4K to be rebuilt again. I agree that 50 lbs and 9500 rpm may have been overkill, but when you spend a long time putting something together and working out the kinks ya wanna see what it’ll do. I’ve had Josh tune all my Subarus and none have really had any issues at all after tuning with exception of the 6. But those issues were not a result of Josh. Broken cams, flywheels coming undone etc

    TT Coyote would be crazy, that's a lot of width in the engine bay, probably be painful to work on but I feel like you'd end up regretting an FA24 in Blue. 4.0 Lt Turbo Barra (Ford Australia) inline 6 would be insane but depth and length would probably be problematic.
