  • Do you not know if you’re singing on pitch? Do you have difficulty matching pitches when you sing? Do your super supportive friends and family lovingly tell you to to give up singing as they hold their fingers in their ears and scrunch their face like they just licked a lemon? (Sorry for that last one, some of my childhood singing scars have yet to fully heal.)
    If any of this sounds like you, quit your pitchin’! In today’s voice lesson we are talking about ear training and how to sing on pitch. Where my pitches at, y’all!

    Another great video! I love the anatomical lessons that go with the exercises. Your tips have helped me get right on tone including the high notes which I learned from your lessons on using the nasal cavity and back of throat to use as a resonance chamber. Keep up the good work. :)

    This is very cool getting to know what the basics of how to really listen by ear while singing within mostly our own vocal range because sometimes we all had our own challenges in our lives in general unlike for myself because I had so many issues with this all throughout my high school experiences since middle school I did choir and now that I have been following this channel it has been so helpful for just me personally but for many others that suffers from their own struggles I did in my life I still try encourage myself to get more better then I used to sound like

    This is a great video. But now I am wondering what the best way to learn new songs is. I had always enjoyed learning new songs by singing along. Maybe I need to spend more time carefully listening before I start to sing?

    • @IzzyNChrist

      This is a good exercise to train your ear to listen and sing pitches. If you want to improve on singing the song in the right pitch try recording yourself and improve the areas you need to fix bit by bit. Use the app she mentioned to tune your pitch as you sing each part in acapella.

    …I have a question regarding being on pitch. I know that it’s nearly impossible to be completely on pitch as a singer. You will nearly always be some cents away from the pitch.
    I am at the point now where I have had two people telling me that I’m pitchy. One I didn’t know. The other is a producer, who I know has worked with some very big names and is known to be very nitpicking and I know he has made very skilled professional singers feel like they couldn’t sing. He did say that it was better than expected from my level.
    I of course want to improve.
    So I have asked 3 singing teachers (who all have good careers as singers) and some other amateur singers and a couple of musicians who have very good relative pitch bordering on perfect pitch. And they don’t think I’m pitchy. Perhaps occasionally, but they say even professional singers can be slightly off pitch and that you can hear it on many recordings before autotune.
    One said that having a darker sound colour can make it sound to some people like you are out of pitch even if you are not.
    I have tried practicing with tuner apps. And it seems that I’m normally within 10 cents and most times within a couple of cents…
    So I’m wondering if I’m a lot out of pitch when I sing songs (if so it’s difficult for me to hear even when listening back to recordings of myself) or if my sound colour affects the perception or if these people who told me that I was pitchy just have a much better ear for small differences than most other people…
    …so how much on pitch do you need to be if you sing pop, rock and that sort of thing for it to be perceived as on pitch, so you don’t make people’s ears bleed?
    Also do the overtones that you invariably produce affect pitch perception? Because depending on the technique you use for a specific song you will have more or less overtones and it affects the sound colour and timbre obviously…

    Good stuff. You are a help. But an instrumentalist 'has to FEEL (10:23/24) where the pitch is on the string' I don't think so. Hear is what you meant

    • @jm52hz
      @jm52hz 4 месяца назад

      we do actually have to “feel” tho (i mean actually feel the distance with our hands/fingers, and create muscle memory) because at one point we have to able to play accurately right away, not after the sound (by sliding our fingers around trying to find the correct pitch with our ears 😭)
