Hi Taz, the "mold" in your kettle could have been just a stone boiled out of your tap water, uk tap water is considered as hard, highly mineral water! For the cleaning method I don't like the vinegar smell staying in the kettle so we use at home 50% water and 50% lemon juice, works well too!
You can also boil water and a couple spoons of acid citric powder in the kettle. Works just the same but quicker and probably cheaper 😊 just don't forget to rinse well afterwards.
@@MySuriMusic I use citric acid powder, too! Works better than vinegar for me for descaling the pot, and can take off years of limescale. It's actually really great for cleaning and as long as you get food grade citric acid, you can also use it in those occasional recipes that call for it.
Up up, it’s limescale/stone! Water is hard here and most of us, use filtering water jugs that then we use to pour more filtered water into the kettle so we don’t have to clean it as often. Water in London is notoriously really hard (and gives many people dandruff due to irritating skin) so having a filtering jug is important! Not mold and won’t hurt you but it will make your water taste eh and no one likes weird chunks in their drinks!
From how she was talking about it, I would say this is probably what it was but some kettles are poorly made, and they do trap moisture, which for anyone with a poorly made kettle can cause mold, easiest way to prevent. It is just leave the top open, so it can dry better.
supposed to use half the seasoning packet, if you eat the noodles like that! since there's less water to dilute the seasoning, itll be more salty which is why yours probably came out very salty!
being in the south east (a kent girly here) you get a high chalk count in our water. buy some bicarb of soda and once a week put a couple teaspoons in and boil the water, empty and repeat. make sure you run it with just water after for a few boils :)
Probably hard water inside the kettle. Could have also been mold if you never rinsed it out and allowed it to dry. If it wasn't cleaned often enough and left always wet...mold could have formed. That's why I never use those kettles. Would only use glass (to be able to see)...or just heat water in a pot.
The old kettle’s “mould” was most likely either limescale or minerals as London’s water is considered hard water 🙂. There was probably a way to clean it out, but I hope you disposed of it responsibly :)
Hey Taz. So funny you're mentioning about your accent. I was binging some of your old videos yesterday and thought there is a slight difference but it's not super different to how it used to be. Like you said yourself, just certain words. Anyway, thank you for being you and for the cool vids. Always enjoy❤
Depending on how often you use it but descale a kettle every 1 to 3 months. Vinegar works of course or just buy a descaler for cheap in B&M or something xx
There is a kettle descaler in most supermarkets. Basically a solution that you add for a bit to break the scale formed in the kettle. I do that once a week or so.
Taz I love your video so much, my dream of coming to the UK is finally here ! I'm beyond excited, thank you so much for being authentic after all those years x
Use filtered water in the kettles, tastes much better too. Try not to reboil the water, only use what you need, and add fresh water each time. I usually buy limescale remover for kettles, it gets rid of any residue.... recipes look Amazing 😋
You should try red wine vinegar on the sandwich. We love to dress our sandwich veggies with all you added, but also with red wine vinegar and it is amazing
One super effective way to clean a kettle is to put like 1 tablespoon of citric acid powder into an almost full kettle and just boiling the water. It will look brand new when you empty the kettle! 😊
Hi! The instruction manual tells you how to clean your kettle. You need to do it monthly, or when is a small layer if stone/limescale forms. It's really easy. Mine works like that: in a jug I dissolve citric acid in that much water that is the minimal amount you can boil in your kettle. Mine is half a liter. I use a teaspoon for that. I stir until every citric acid granule is dissolved. I boil the water, and leave it in 5-15 minutes.* You rinse the kettle under running water and you boil the kettle with full water twice. If the whole kettle is limescaled: you pour more water (until the top line) after 5 minutes of letting it to dissolve. You this after I put the * symbol. You boil again, and rinse the same way I wrote above. It works like a charm. For the outside I use a microfiber cloth, with just water. Almost every day, but at least weekly. If it's too dirty you can use bicarbonate of soda in the water, just a bit. Works for most surfaces.
I'm loving these cooking videos, more please!! everything u make comes out great whether u like the taste or not😊...the leftover chopped sandwich u can use as a salad or mix with pasta yum!
1) buy a brita pitcher, the filter helps a bit with the lime. 2) clean the kettle every 2-4 weeks, half a cup to a cup of regular vinegar with water (some add baking soda I don’t)- boil and let sit for several minutes. Remove water, repeat of necessary.
Kettle maintenance. Learned when I worked at a fast food place. Salt on the bottom and ice cubes. Swirl around until ice is melted. Great for coffee/tea stains.
I usually use citric acid for cleaning the kettle :) Fill the kettle up, add citric acid, bring it to a boil & let it "steep" for a bit. You can either bring it to a boil again or just pour out the citric water (you can reuse it to clean your shower head or tap) then rinse out the kettle a few times with clean water
Hey Taz😊with the kettle there are kettle cleaners that you can get from the store. Not sure where you can get them in the UK as I’m from South Africa but any grocery store should have a kettle cleaner in the cleaning supplies section😊
Yeah living alone with adhd , I had to learn that I have to buy a dehumidifier so not everything in the house gets moldy and took me a long time to learn how to store food correctly and how to avoid food waste and in general how to keep everything clean.
When I was young my mother would go to the local Air Force Base commissary once a month to shop. She always got everything to make sub sandwiches because they had a really lovely deli there. To this day, a good cold cut sandwich, on nice bread, Swiss cheese, and brown mustard is still a “treat” to me! I’m the only one…it’s me.
It was probably limescale inside the kettle! Living in London we have ‘hard water’ and you need to use a descaler to clean it- same goes for your washing machine etc
Your hair frames your face so positively😮 like I’m not a native speaker so I’m not sure if that sounds like positive but I meant it in a good way 😅 you look fresh and pretty ❤
There was a recipe I saw with those extra hot noodles you eat, but mixed with cheesy mashed potato. Ive heard it's pretty good, but I cant really handle that level of spicy.
Hi Taz, i think 'mold' in the kettle was just stone. I just use like larg (2.4L) filter water bottle with hard water filter and just use only that water for boiling in kettle. I've been using this 'hack' since november 2021 and didin't need to clean kettle once :)
Taz, you can buy a metal mesh ball that you throw into the kettle, which catches all the LIMESCALE, which I presume was the "mould" you mentioned. Then you throw it away when it looks like a ball of limescale and put in another (kettle descaler ball). SIMPLE 😊😮
Hey Taz, for that moldy kettle, you probably wanna give it a rinse with some descaler, i usually use "oust". It's likely the london limescale or "hard water" lol.
If you can not dissolve limescale in your kettle with vinegar or citric acid you can try a ready to use solution with formic acid. Also you should turn the kettle on a few times cause the temperature rise will help with dissolving it.
As a fellow anxiety veteran, the pause at stumbling block was relatably funny because I'm doing that throughout day for the past month or so. I need to go see a doctor soon, I'm going to get a stroke I guess 😄. Some periods in the day I'm entirely a bumbling stock, so to speak 😄 Luckily, I have a desk job with no need for frequent verbal communication, so people don't see how I am falling apart and piecing myself together throughout the day.🤫 You have to keep working on it, and while that adds an extra burden on daily life, reducing the number and types of things you can do, it cannot deny you happiness and tranquility. Silence and quiet are the best medicine for me, while the rest of the world gets drunk on adrenaline.

I tried the egg ramen recipe. I think the one i used involved more broth, so the final dish wasn't as salty. And I don't remember whether it was a whole egg or just yolk, but it definitely used mayonnaise. Unfortunately I don't like mayo and was quite uncomfortable with the "raw" egg. So yeah, I ate it, but it felt weird. The broth did feel very creamy and rich, though!
12:15 Try adding tahini (or 100% peanut butter) and a dash of soy sauce instead of the egg and mayo :) I am like you, i could not stomach the raw egg (i know its not rly but in my head it was raw and nothing ppl say will change it)
Hi taz, its been a while since i have watched your videos as i have been having a break from the internet, i just wanted to say your hair is really pretty long and you seem more confident ❤
If you use the roasted seaweed snacks rather than sushi nori, it'll break up the way you want it to! You didn't use enough water for the ramen broth, that's why it was so salty, use the same amount as you would making it normally - or don't put all the seasoning packet in. I love that egg and kewpie hack with Shin Ramyeon!
Not watched your video in ages…the last time I watched was when you moved into your first place and didn’t know how to cook, looks like you’ve come such a long way😊
You will notice that it seems to take longer for it to boil. The bottom will also become white. Put enough vinegar to cover the bottom leave alone 5 minutes. Boom shake and pour out the bad. I do maybe every 2 weeks but it depends on how often you use it. Good luck!
The kettle thing was probably limescale, I put half white vinegar and half water and then boil. Just don’t breath in the steam - I accidentally did that and it was bad 😅
a really good tip to clean your kettle is to put a teaspoon of citric acid in it as well as the water and boil it one time. After that you rinse it once more with water and you're done - clean kettle. If it got a lot of lime you might want to repeat the process. btw. I hope it's called "lime" - English isn't my first language but in German it's called "Kalk" it also works with white vinegar but it takes longer since you have to let it sit there for 20-30 minutes after boiling. So personally I prefer the citric acid method :)
The one with the ramen I've tried it as well and I had the same reaction as you. The problem was that the flavouring packet is for the water to make a nice soup so the amount of water you use for this recipe is not that much , Japanese Mayo is also very salty. So I guess you have to put less of the powder

tomato slicing tip: use a bread/serrated knife to slice.
Form experience, if you cant cut something soft like a tomato, your knifes are *DULL*
If you're having a lot of trouble with mold at your place (and not just mostly on old food) a dehumidifier might be really helpful! :)
