Bravo. I quit social media about 3 years ago after on and off using. And I can completely agree with you, it truly changed my life. I became a lot more social in real life, like going out to parties, skating, found a job, and making new friends. I believe social media will be the downfall of humanity one day.
I completely agree with you, boredom is a blessing in disguise. When you’re bored you find things you’re good at and things you enjoy, and if you open up an app every time you’re bored from the time you could hold a phone into adulthood, you’re gonna have grown up and realized you have no hobbies or things you enjoy. Boredom is something that people don’t deal with anymore because the phone is an easy solution
Thankyou for sharing your experience. I’m at a point where I’ve left school and everyone’s posting their lives at university while I’m stuck at home unable to work because of health issues. I find myself feeling hateful and jealous of people I know from school because they’re just living their life. I realised I should quit social media because a lot of what’s happening in the world is dark and I feel so helpless. I think as people we are only able to handle all of the problems around us yet on social media people from all corners of the world are shouting at you that things are your fault and you have to fix it when you can’t. As you said I feel like a background character, I’m ready to become the main character. 2022 has been the worst year of my life, I’ve had to sit around a lot because of my health and I was unable to live. 2023 is going to be my year. I can feel it. Hopefully getting rid of social media helps me along my journey. (Also I just want to say you look like Eddie Vedder and that’s cool)
I will happily take the awesome compliment of Eddie haha, i love pearl jam and his solo songs from the movie into the wild. if you need someone to talk to about anything, your more than welcome to email me: lachiejc2328@gmail.com that what the life should be about. contributing beyond yourself and going through life with people, your not alone i promise.
I had a very similar reaction to leaving social media. Nothing but positive things began to happen for me and to me - my moods and attitudes went from negative to positive. Thanks for sharing this video.
Totally relatable. I quit social media about 2 months ago… I too wanted to live a more meaningful life. Rather than getting stuck in a scrolling rabbit hole on Facebook or Instagram. I did feel like I was the background character of my own story…and it was soo depressing. Being aware of that definitely helped me decide to deactivate them
I'm pretty sure RUclips is considered social media. That being said, after getting deeper into the video it was a bit more profound than I had expected. I could summarize this entire video into one scene from One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, where the Native American guy was talking about his father's drinking habit. Something or other about drinking from the bottle, and eventually the bottle drinks from you... until you're empty.
It's not social media, its the viewpoint on yourself I have learned. You have to love yourself that much more when you are rejected by the rest of the world, and you see that rejection on social media and it just intensifies that hurt. You have to learn to be strong and accept that you will not be popular no matter what you do because you are an intelligent, genuine, creative genius and people are afraid of that.
I'm busy with that right now. There are parts of your story I can relate to, but my reason for deleting social media is that I want to be more present and my feed is full of junk that I don't even follow. I don't want to have to document every moment. I will keep IG (switched my account back to personal and made it private) and YT (for educational purposes) and Pinterest (creative inspo) but everything else must go. And I'm super happy.
Aye!! I deleted everything except for Pinterest, tumblr, and RUclips since September and I feel amazing. I wanted to delete Instagram for months but I wasn’t able to. Prior to that I deleted Instagram and Facebook for 3 months Without it permanently I feel so much better and don’t foresee myself going back. I don’t even click on links just so I don’t accidentally log in. God bless!
Thank you for sharing this. I’m so on your side on this. As a highly sensitive, social media really messes up my whole nervous system. I usually go a few months off and a few months on. But everytime I’m off I feel so good. Thank you for sharing your journey. You’re a great speaker ✨
This is one of the channels that gave me the courage to start my RUclips channel 7 months ago about self development. Now I have 652 subs and > 100 hours of watch time. I know it’s not comparable with others but I’m still proud I started because I’ve been learning so many lessons that I could haven’t learned without getting started in the 1st place.
im gonna take a break for while after watching this, ive always been so afraid of missing out and if i dont post what im doing then i have nothing to show for my life, but i needa realize i dont need constantly to prove that im living my life, i think this will be really freeing. we mightve deleted social media for different reasons but thank you for this :)
I also take breaks with social media when I feel it's getting too much into my head, but I cannot ignore it is important to have an online presence nowadays...
I love this so much. I'm starting to realize that social media is ruining my mental health, and consuming my life! I've made the decision to delete almost everything, except RUclips 🙃 thank you for this vid! Also, I love your shirt 🔺️🌈
Love this video! I’ve been thinking about deleting social media for some time since it’s very stressful for me and I’m glad I have more support that I know people can relate to this! I want to grow spiritually and connect with myself, I want to improve myself and not be on social media it’s so negative. thank you for the video man
Great message! "Social media" connect's people. It's about same as cities connect people. Sure, there are good and bad sides to it all, but in my opinion both create disconnect from the nature, from the true self and from others, the genuine connection. "Social media" is a marketing term. Many marketing trends are there to control masses in hypnosis. The need to compare myself to others, envy, longing, trying to be someone else, trying have something someone else has is an empty road. The best is that you accept yourself as you are, love yourself and your unique path. That's the way. And often their image in "social media" is half-true, at best. So basically, one is comparing themselves to an illusion. Like in fashion magazines etc. Designed for the very purpose. Social media is an addiction. Once you realize it and that you're addicted to it, you can start to control it. Then you start to be more in your own true power. You decide how to live your live, rather then living through others or letting the addictions control you. Once you start to cut down the addiction one by one, your own true power increases at the same time. You truly become the great force of change, just being you authentically, standing firm and strong and happy in your own power. It's some good stuff...
Great Video! I’ve been on fb 15 years! It’s becoming played out for me. It has been 3 wks so far since I haven’t logged on.I honestly don’t miss it. I’ve taken the first step and removed the app off the main front of my phone and now it’s in-the library only.. baby steps but honestly I don’t miss it so far. Good for you. I realize what a time waster these sm apps are.! Great story ! Love your voice and I was very engaged in your video.
Thank you for sharing this! I will be quitting in about two weeks, so I’m doing research and preparing myself/my friends for my new life lol I’m looking forward to experiencing the benefits you mentioned as well as some of my own personal goals
i dont think i can make more videos. im content with just living a slow and simple offline life and being off everything now for good, even youtube. but it warms my heart to see all these beautiful comments
I aspire to live free from social media totally someday. How much time and happiness I could find. So far, I'm still figuring out a way to do it after having a internet addiction since I was a kid (escaping to online world). But hopefully someday I'm at the point that I only open social media for work (research) purposes.
This is a great video. You’re so well spoken. I’m in high school and I don’t go on my phone much. I have noticed my friend who is addicted to her phone (seriously cannot live without it) take a photo for snapchat, look it over, exit out, and take another photo. She repeats this process about 30 times to get the “perfect” photo. The funny thing? They are all the same pictures of her. I notice this addiction take control of my peers because I don’t partake in it as much as they do. I have TikTok which I believe is the worst social media platform and I am working on deleting it. I hate the fact that I even got it in the first place. It has destroyed me. I’ve never been on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook before. I have Snapchat but only use it to take photos in case my phone resets itself and I lose all the pictures in my camera roll (has happened three times now). But now that I’m leaving TikTok, I’m beginning to get addicted to RUclips lol. This is a very powerful message you have shared. I hope and fully believe I’ll finally delete everything some day and find peace within myself.
Tbh, we just connect Too hard. Virtually. But not Physically! Which mean this will be a battle of mental. It just show that the Mental is the most important than the physical
I had FB for 3 years & Tik Tok for 2 weeks lol...they both caused trouble with me & my gf...so I deleted both...I feel SO much better without social media bullshit!...that's all any of it is to me!...btw she kept her tik tok & we broke up...I wish she would delete hers...it might have made a difference with us?...who knows? But I'll never have social bullshit media EVER again!! People!..get off your phones & get out & enjoy life & do productive things! Life is TOO short to waste your time on social media!
Thank you! Just today I apologized on my fb account for spreading conspiracy lies following 2020 presidential election. It happened because I had back then severe psychosis episode. Too much dopamine or something. I believe quitting social media for some time would be a great start of 2023. And who knows, perhaps one day... I would be free as you are. I recommed work of Cal Newport (podcast here on YT Deep Life) or his books Deep Work and Digital Minimalism. Newport is a millenial who never had a social media account.
@@lachiecatt8141 Thats so cool dude. Also I deleted my last social media site yeaterday. I gradually deleted them; started with the easier ones to delete then gradually worked myself to delete insta
Most social media is like being at a party where NO ONE is having fun or being honest. Social media conditions you to stay addicted to it with algorithms. I never felt encouraged to be happy or a better person with it. If anything quite the opposite actually. I read a comment somewhere that said "nature > social media."
just like minimalism, the goal isn't to get rid of everything. its to get rid of life's excess to make room for the things you value and that add meaning to your life. if you find you value youtube and enjoy watching videos, then keeping it will continue to add value to your life.
But you’re on RUclips feeding your dopamine fix via the view count, new subscriber count and comment section. Same approval addiction, different method!

The best thing you can do!!! Because there is absolutely nothing social about social media. The word social media is totally misleading. What is supposed to be social about it?
I think it depends on how you use it. I'll tell you how I use Facebook and Instagram.
