    I have a comment about the Overflow in the tub. The Overflow drain was not aligned right with the tub you should have opened the access panel and loosened the overflow nuts to realign the Overflow pipe. After seeing you poking the gasket like that I believe you'll probably will have a leak you should have replaced the gasket then you would have done a perfect job. That's my tech tip for the day.

    It all looks great, but I have big problem with removing old flange/rim - it keep spinning. I have managed to spin it with the tool, it kicked off the old silicon from between the rim and bathtub base, but even tho it's spinning quite easily it doesn't go up at all. I tried to spin and pool with pliers, but that doesn't seem to work either. What am I missing here? Are there kinds with no thread? Is this thread broken or unmatched? Maybe I am doing something wrong here? I also don't have access to under the bath tub as I would need to break the tiles (don't ask me - I bought this place like that..)

    Hi! Great video! I'm trying to replace my overflow plate...just like yours...but I'm having a hard time removing the old one. Mine is not held in place by a screw--it looks more like a screw type thing that has a ball at the end of it. The ball has a hole in it that I would have to put one of those little L shaped screw drivers in and then torque it to loosen it. It won't budge. I spray some lubricant on it so hopefully in the morning it will loosen it up. My question is the plate I purchased...which is just like yours...has a screw in it. Will that work with what I have. I know it might be hard to understand what I have. My house is over 100 years old with old fixtures. Any help will be appreciated!

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  Месяц назад +2

      First, did the lubrication help? I’m not sure if I understand the comment on the “little L shaped screw drivers.” Are you talking about an Allen wrench? Sorry, I’m just trying to understand. It’s really hard to diagnosis issues without being present and I don’t like to guess and steer people the wrong direction.

  • @gunnerfusco5845
    @gunnerfusco5845 2 года назад +1

    Hey there! Awesome vid! The old drain looked like it had putty all the way down the threads. Is that an optional seal tactic... just adding more putty to the threads themselves?

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  2 года назад +2

      You could do that, but if you have a good seal on top it will work. Also, some of that might be from when the contractors built the house and put the putty on it initially and it squeezing down on there as they tightened it.

  • @jeffcoolhd
    @jeffcoolhd 5 месяцев назад

    I have a few comments. #1 if your plumber's putty is a little dried up like that roll it around in your hands and the heat from your hands will return it back to its normal state don't add water to the plumbers putty. #2 you should have added more plumbers putty to the tub drain. #3 you should have put some pipe dope on the threads before screwing it into the pipe. And I am a professional plumber that's my tech tip for the day

    Can anyone explain how this specific type of drain cap/stopper works? I believe mine may be dysfunctional but I've been looking online for hours for the correct model/solution but it's pretty hard to understand any of it when I don't even know how it actually functions in the first place. Mine hasn't worked since we moved into our house, it won't stay up so to drain the tub we have to put something under it to hold it open- and I was hoping to find a video explaining why it isn't working when every other video seems to show the same pieces and all? I believe its the same as this one, maybe a bit older, but I don't know if there's supposed to be a notch that holds it or if it has something to do with the underpart. If anyone has any answers it would be appreciated. Thanks.

    • @MCFIXIT
      @MCFIXIT  Год назад

      The drain assembly turns into the pvc pipe that’s threaded below it. It seals down the tub with the drain top when turning it into the pipe. Each drain rice valve works a bit differently. Some pop by pushing down and others turn one way to open and another to close it. If you turn it too much then it should come off.

    Question:
    Mine is only able to be hand screwed in 1-2 turns then I have to use a wrench to get it the rest of the way in…
    Once it hits the bottom, it is not flush and there is a clear gap on the side closest to the cover plate. I’ve tried multiple times.
    How can I get it to screw in even/flush??

    • @MCFIXIT

      The first thing I'd check is to make sure it is not cross threaded. It should be more than a turn or two before having to use a wrench. I'd back it off and try again.
