This movie and song take me back to a simpler time from my childhood, where giant sentient robots could talk and change into vehicles, animals, and household items, the secrets of the universe were hidden away in a skeletal themed castle in the center of the very cosmos, and more than just the day was saved by America's best and brightest military officers/experts. A time where even a malfunctioning and clumsy cyborg detective could still foil the criminal masterminds, where a band of survivors from a planetary apocalypse followed by the near genocidal holocaust of their race during mass exodus, could stand up to the most ancient of evils, and where cowboys and outlaws could just as well be found in outer space as they could in the days of the old west. This was the eighties, my friends, let the good times roll.

The fabulous 80s. That's the case for all the Carpenter's filmography ( except halloween who is the only real commercial succes of his career) wich is pretty sad because Carpenter made so many good movies who where ignored by the public

Agreed. It's a timeless classic. Movie making that stands the test of time is a lost art for film producers today, they just don't get what makes a movie great. Instead they just keep spewing out remakes, sequels and prequels with CGI, 100% action and no storylines.
I saw this when I was about 8, so maybe two years after it came out. Just fucking incredible. A triumph of the imagination. How the fuck do you even think of some shit like this? So funny and cool and awesome. One of my favourite movies of all time. Definitely in my top 20, and I'm a huge movie nerd. JC is right up there with Kurosawa, Almadovar, Jarmusch, The Cohen Brothers, Fellini (La Strada is tied in first for my favorite of all time), and the like. Fuck it. John Carpenter is a fucking god.
A CLASSIC. I love John Carpenter. Great song too. I might have to put my DVD on in a minute. Oh Yeah. I watched this film when I was stoned once. God that was funny.
