Great How to! Found a work around for the Pumping Piston Ring made of UNOBTAINIUM. Carefully remove the ring from the piston. Place a very very thin o'ring in the groove and reinstall the original Piston Ring with the "Expander " behind it. Working well for almost a year now!

Nice video, dealing with dried up washer on 69 GS, ordered the Trico electric pump but by time it primed it burned out.
Returning and will prime with fluid before trying it next time... But for one of these think back in 80s I took rubber band and put in that groove to make the seal expand in that bore further and it worked on a GTO... this GS unit is rock hard so no luck with my former method.. maybe others will though if soft enough to come off like yours was...

I have a 86 Caprice with delay, When I followed what you did, everything worked (high, low and park), however it did it with delay. e.g. low it would go slow and wait and repeat, then it did the same thing with what seemed like high wait and repeat, then it would park. Is there anyway I can test with out the delay kicking in? The wipers will not work from the switch inside the car.
I must say, my gauges fuse keeps blowing. I recently had an alarm installed. I'm wondering if the alarm is at fault.

the 1972 switch is different from the 1970 on the chevelle, it has an extra pin which i am showing 10 volts at. I just rewired the entire car with an american autowire upgraded harness. My original switch has 5 pins ,5th pin being larger than the other 4. the AA diagram shows the 3 plug harness going to the 3 pins and the single plug going to the other smaller pin. i tried holding the switch against the coking in the event it was supposed to be grounded but all i get is the relay clicking ay the motor but no other life out of the motor, in the am i will try to do as you have so excellently showed in your vid. thanks!

interesting video... you obviously studied and learned your way around the wiper motors. I saw how you pulled the piston assembly of the washer pump apart.
You made reference to the sealing ring on the piston. That is a combination compression and sealing ring for the piston. It is similar to the oil and compression ring of an engine, but serves multipurpose of compression, sealing and scraper. An engine has separate rings for the same purpose.
Since you are not able to find replacement rings for the existing pump, the rings that you have can be revived if they have dried out too much. There are several methods to do so. To revive the ring, it needs to be soaked with a lightweight motor oil, or with mineral oil. The rubber ring shrinks over time and wears out. Soaking it with oil revives and renews the rubber, making it pliable again. If exceptionally dry and hard, soak it over night. If only marginally hardened from drying, soak it for an hour or so. Then, carefully clean and wipe all excess oil off the sealing ring. Then finish it by wiping on a coat of silicon lubricant. This will help to replenish and slow the drying process. Allow it to sit for an hour, then wipe the excess silicon lubricant off before reassembling. A small dab of white gear oil on the piston and sealing ring will allow for easier assembly.
Thank you for this very informative video. I studied it to learn how to wire a wiper motor because I want to use one for another purpose other than as a wiper motor. I can do away with the pump because I don't need it, but do need to know the correct wiring diagram for the wiper motor. I was able to learn everything I need in order to wire my motor for the plan that I have for its use that is NOT as a wiper motor. Again, thanks a lot for your informative and very nicely made video.

Working on my 70 Corvette Wiper Motor, Wipers works perfectly just having issues with washer pump. Looks like the washer pump hasn't been used in years since I found both wiper washer nozzles (on the 70 Corvette/part of the wiper arm) disconnected and one completely broken off. Washer Reservoir was dry and filter screen clogged. I ordered new wiper arms w/the nozzles and the Washer Valve Repair Kit that you noted. After I check the spring and gear, Hopefully I can get the washer pumped primed and working, if not have to find that cylinder seal. Please update the video if you find a source for the cylinder seal, i'll have to check with one of the Corvette parts suppliers if that seal is now available since your post was 6 years ago.. Great Job explaining the electrical connection, I'm just a shade tree mechanic tring to keep my C3 operational and that helped tremendously. .

I appreciate all the work you did to bring us the excellent video.
Ive been having issues with my wipers and this has been very helpful.
However no mention of the switch and I cant find any videos or diagrams of my wiper switch. I have a 1978 Chevy Monte Carlo. The switch has a wiper delay and apparently Im the only one on the internet who has delay. I know ElGoog hates me and doesnt show me results I want only ads and ad partners.
So Ill look at your other videos to see if youve covered the switch testing and maybe create a new google account to get better search results.
The video was very helpful and my wiper motor is fine. So its either the switch or the wiring.
If I cant find any videos covering the switch and wiring I may make a video.
    Have a Great Day

    • @markmartin1263
      @markmartin1263 2 года назад

Yeah wiper delay was factory but I cant find much info on it.
I removed and tested the switch and as far as I know its fine.
I have 12v to center connector and ground on both outside terms according to switch position so Im guessing the wiring is fine.
I tried jumpers to activate the motor and only hear a relay clicking but to motor.
So I bared the wires to the motor and low works but not high.
Everything used to work but when I power wash under the hood the wipers quit working. The parts store said if I buy a new one and it doesn't solve the problem I can return it and continue trouble shooting.
Just thought I give you an update. And thank you again for posting the video. Few cover the older cars and you did a very good job explaining things.
      Have a Great Day

Oh fluids do help. I rebuild a clock on a 72 Javelin AMX it had the tic toc feature. If no one ever saw one there so cool. has a clock inside the tachometer. anyways after cleaning and rebuilding, it would only work one cycle, or just a few seconds. Shot some graphite lube on the gears and it works till this day 25 years later.

Rubber bands for discontinued seal. Or rubber tape. That use to tied down rip radiator hoses. Might work
