He didn't contradict himself. He just meant that he's 10% (for example) biased towards Kamaru and the judges are 10% biased towards Leon. So if it was a 50-50 fight, for him it's a 60-40 Kamaru fight and for the judges saw it 60-40 Leon. But Gaethje says Bisping is way more biased than the judges, let's say 20%, so for Bisping it's actually 70-30.

There was even a GSP fight where he held on to his opponent's shorts while taking him down. Let's not forget McGregor desperately holding on to gloves, shorts and fence to avoid being taken down. Fighting is dirty, and fighters do all they can to get a superior position, as long as they can get away with it, especially when it is something high stakes, like a championship. The consequences are getting a warning from the ref, and you can't try doing the same thing again or you risk getting penalized and your points deducted. In the heat of the moment, you have to make a choice between losing the position, and potentially the rest of the fight, or getting a warning or penalty from the referee. Its not clean or honorable, but you'd be hard pressed to find such high stakes fights that go cleanly.

It was exact same takedown attempt that Jones took Gane down and won. I dunno they need to sanction these things way more. Edit: Actually just had a great idea they need to put a transparent screen like foil type in front of the fence to prevent any grabbing at all.
