"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me." That line by itself is awesome, but Takahata's delivery just sends it to the top. The writing in this show is amazing.
@@Chucky_Martinez It's okay, but I never thought it made sense. Gohan literally knocked him out to prevent him from fighting. Trunks didn't *let* Gohan do anything. Gohan walked into his own death himself.
@@rna151 if you remember what happens in a later episode (Mr. Perfect Cell: "Let me tell you a tale...") you know that Cell DOES know about EVERYTHING that happened so far
They should wait until after Episode 60 Part 1 for Broly. Broly hints at the whole thing that happens at the end of Part 1. Even it if it's one line. There reaction to it will be alot better if they have no warning at all.
I don't know if you noticed, but Cell, particularly in the original show, is implying that the 3rd Grade form Trunks is using here probably could be used by Vegeta, but Vegeta recognized its weaknesses like Goku did, and so he didn't use it. This made Trunks assume that Vegeta didn't know about the form and so he assumed he was stronger than Vegeta when he actually wasn't. In the original, this is particularly what made Trunks so embarrassed that he practically gave up, because he misread his power and the situation so badly.
Exactly. Vegeta achieved Grade 3 as well, but immediately recognized its problems. Trunks only saw the power but was too inexperienced to recognize the weakness of speed. Suddenly he realized he was wrong about everything. His strength, that he surpassed his father, and that he could bear Cell. Probably just one more reason for him to respect his father. To know that Vegeta saw what he didn't and wasn't blinded by more power. This is something Dragon Ball on the whole could do better in though. Too often power levels beat skill or intelligence.
@@saltyk9869 Yes, and Vegeta knows Trunks made the mistake but doesn't criticize him directly for it. You see that later when Trunks misunderstands what Goku and Gohan's Full Power Super Saiyan form means, and Vegeta does criticize him from not learning from his own experience. That is what makes the Cell arc a breed apart from the other DBZ arcs, is that it really showed a kind of critical thinking you typically don't see. Super has a bit of this, but its usually caused by Whis giving tips instead of Goku and Vegeta figuring it out organically, which cheapens the experience. Still, Super's utilization of technique and fighting style shows that Toyotaro favors the Cell Games sort of power growth over other arcs.
It's sad to see so many people miss this and just rip on Vegeta. Yes, he does deserve it at times, but he is an extremely talented fighter and shouldn't be underestimated.
Actually he's like nearly 20. Think how long he was in the test tube, then he went to look for the androids and kill Trunks, then he went back in time and spent 4 years in the ground.
Remember how Goku mentioned the form slows you down? You can actually see Trunks flying to hit Cell, while normally they're so fast you can only see a blur
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me." "Does Gohan know by the way? That you let him die." Cell's lines are actually PERFECT. So cold that I almost confused him for Cooler. We see that while Trunks did attain a new form from his father, he didn't necessarily attain a BETTER form. Stronger isn't always better. Especially if you can't hit your opponent.
Cell's line about dead men is made even better by the fact that I actually loved Trunks retort "and behind that insufferable smarm is a dead man" so the fact that Cell topped that line immediately afterwards with something so chilling felt incredible. He just recaptured the mood.
Goku was muttering "Don't break Popo's stuff," before he yelled "SIXTH RULE OF POPO'S TRAINING!" Goku trained with Mr. Popo as a kid. As with the other Z-Warriors who trained with him before Vegeta and Nappa showed up, he suffers from PTSD as a result.
Let's appreciate the fact this is one of the only times, arguably the only time in all of DB where significantly stronger didn't also mean significantly faster as well.
Oozaru also - while not being slower at all - doesn't gain quite as much speed as it does power over base form. It is also very lightly implied through some guidebooks that SSJ3 might not give the same amount of speed as it does strength, but iunno about that one. Then you have the the opposite, where speed is greater than power as seen in Burter and Dyspo. So out of the entirety of Dragon Ball, we have only 4, _maybe_ 5, examples of power and speed being non-linearly related. Which is a shame, because I love the dynamic it adds to a fight when they are mismatched (Dyspo vs Hit being probably my favorite ToP fight that doesn't include a main character).
15:27 - We also have to keep in mind his regeneration is like piccolo- cellular. Unless they hit him at every angle, they're not killing him and he'll be stronger. So they gotta find a way to kill him with nothing let to regenerate. Cell is by far the most terrifying villain thus far on this basis alone.
Cell's regeneration is just a tier below Buu. But it's still one of the strongest regenerative abilities this side of Wolverine. Add in that he can survive in space and has the skills of every main character and Freeza (DBZA spelling) and he's just terrifying.
@@saltyk9869And of course the big kicker: Saiyan DNA, from multiple sources. Meaning he gets that same Namek saga ludicrous power boost after recovering from any damage - the closer to death, the bigger the boost. With that incredible regeneration turning that recoup time from days of recovery (or hours in a healing pod) to instantly.
@@saltyk9869 to be fair, what puts Cell's regeneration on par with Buu's is that Cell actually gets * eksponentially stronger* every time he survives a fatal injury. Given time Cell could have legitimately become unstoppable.
And Takahata has some amazing delivery on those lines. So many people criticize abridged, usually without watching it, saying TFS are just taking the piss out of DBZ, but you can tell from how they steered things after the first few episodes that this is a homage that is packed with respect for the source material.
@@DiligentD nice try but unfortunately...no... Super became a thing because DragonBall Evolution pissed Toriyama off so much he created Battle of the Gods...
@@uzuchihanasuke1221 'nice try?' Really dude? You're statement is somewhat correct however if you actually read mine properly you know mine is too. TFS were in no small way resposible for Dragon Balls fandom saying as alive as it was with not only their abridged but their gaming videos and on point commentary too for people new to the series. So to you: nice try in 'correcting' something that couldn't have been in the first place. Try to not be as rude to the next guy yea?
"Why Vegeta?" "Because I deserve something today!" Tien has some of the best exchanges and lines. And I love how deep they go into his anger and disappointment about Krillin and Vegeta's fuck ups.🙂
The "Don't break Popo's stuff" joke is a callback to Popo's training for the Saiyans at the beginning of DBZA. Goku trained with Popo in the original Dragon Ball series before Z takes place.
I don't know why but even when I know it is coming the "what channel?" line from 16 gets me every time. Somehow it's so simple but it gets the biggest laugh out of me of anything in DBZA without fail. Also, the saddest part about Trunks' whole experience here is that the whole time he thought he was holding back and he had reached some deep power that even his father couldn't. The revelation that Cell was aware of how to utilize Super Saiyan 3rd Grade and Vegeta probably knew about it too just didn't bother with it because of the weaknesses mean that Trunks was not just beat down on power, but everything he thought he knew going into the situation was wrong and he had to come to terms with that while fighting a fight he had no chance to win. That's just depressing.
the delivery of that one line "...you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me" is so damn loaded. cells power is BUILT on the bodies of the dead. the humans he absorbed. the cyborgs. while he doesn't care about it, the efforts of Gero as a whole. But then saying it as a comeback to trunks, who he just revealed is essentially responsible (albeit via multiverse timeline) for him finally attaining all this strength and a means to test it when nothing else could? priceless.
The Known Rules of Popo's Training: 1: Do not talk about Popo's training 2: Cry when you think about Popo's training 4: Don't eat Popo's shit 6: DON'T BREAK POPO'S STUFF
Fun Fact! The form Vegeta was using in this fight is called Super Saiyan Grade 2. It's why he looked so much buffer. Trunks also has that form, but he went further and created Super Saiyan Grade 3. Sadly that form is the embodiment of "Stop! Wait! Go Back!" Meme. Grade 2 is the sweet spot between power and speed.
@Rabid Robbie Well yeah, but we haven't got to that part yet. I didn't really want to spoil anything. I don't think they rember those death battles they watched very well.
To me, Super Saiyan 2 is a combination of all the potential of the Pervious SS form and Grades. There is a specific threshold that Gohan had that allowed him to crossover and display a Power level that Goku had only an feeling existed. And it’s crazy how deep you have to dig just to gain that form! But after this Forms start coming out left and Right.
14:46 To be honest, the form that Vegeta and Trunks have shown is closer to being a variant of the same Super Saiyan form - Super Saiyan 1.5, if you will (though in the games, it is known as “Super Vegeta” and “Super Trunks” respectively). A new level to be sure, but not really a new “form,” per se. I can’t say any more than this without potentially spoiling something, so I’ll leave it for a future episode.

That song is considered Future Trunks's theme in a lot of DBZ media. It's called Hikari no Willpower. Original version here: ruclips.net/video/Rjllfs0QyEo/видео.html Also, yes. Dragonball was originally kind of a gag manga based on the Chinese novel "Journey to the West". Goku started traveling with Bulma around 12. One of their earliest villains was an anthropomorphized rabbit that turned villagers into carrots. Goku used his old power pole to leave that rabbit on the moon. Cell didn't make that up. He also mentioned the Red Ribbon Army and Demon King Piccolo (Piccolo's Dad/previous life/Kami's evil half).
The rabbit to the Moon line goes back to original Dragon Ball if I remember correctly there was Immortal rabbit mob boss that could turn people into carrots. So kid goku launched him to the moon.
It also points to the fact that Japanese people see a rabbit on the moon as opposed to a man, hell, the real name of Sailor Moon in the Japanese version is Usagi Tsukino, which means “Rabbit of the Moon”
@@NIKEONXX The episode ends with the rabbit boss and his cronies pounding mocchi on the moon, like in the story. It's a concept that's been referenced before Dragonball in works like Kinnikuman, and has been referenced afterwards in works such as Sailor Moon and Super Mario Odyssey. It's the equivalent of an episode of an American cartoon that references Humpty Dumpty.
Been also watching the creator commentary episodes (They're far behind you guys) where they made a comment of how they INSISTED that KaiserNeko (Scott Frerichs) voices Future Trunks, but after seeing what he's like in the commentary episodes and seeing this episode again -- Yeah, I can really see why they insisted that he voices Trunks, it really is a perfect fit for him even if he was a little unwilling to do it. And once again Takahata delivers those so magnificent lines. When writing and voice talent collides, so absolutely beautiful. Mwah.
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me" Pretty sure with each person he absorbed their power level is added to his own... ...and with the famer from the beginning having a level of 5..... ...If he absorbed an entire city he's getting MILLIONS of power. Plus with 17 and 18 being even more powerful than our Super Saiyans giving an extra boost.... .....he NEEDS to be stopped
13:06 Like Ken, people often debate between Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell, but everyone agrees on one thing, his semi form is no-one's favourite. However, Toriyama did say once that his semi form was his favourite design of the 3.
So to clear up any lingering confusion: This Cell is from a *different timeline* than the one that this Future Trunks is from. In that timeline, a different Trunks had successfully gone to the past (also a different timeline) and helped the Z Fighters defeat the Androids, then came back to destroy the ones in his future. Later, Cell ambushed that Trunks, killed him, and took his time machine to travel to *this* timeline, exactly one year before our Trunks arrived from *his* timeline.
Sixth Rule of Popo's Training: Don't Break Popo's Stuff🤣 Android 17 and 18 are Cyborgs, 16 is an actual Android, no organic human insides being completely synthetic and Cell is a bio organic android. His power can be sensed like living people.
As much as I love the badass lines (You can't fathom the amount of dead men behind me", "What do you call the last 5 minutes? Pity") ..my favourite line is Cell: "..or killing Goku, now THAT sounds like a good time!" 16: "That doesn't make us friends!" Cell: "I'M TRYING, SIXTEEN!!!" :DD
So, just for clarity, there are *4 timelines* : A) The "main" timeline the story takes place in B) The Bad Future timeline of this Trunks C) The saved timeline where this Cell is from D) The timeline "Trunks C" saved PS: Someone pointed out that it should be 4, fixed it
yep though i gotta ask is timeline C considered saved? yeah the cyborgs are dead but so are Trunks, the rest of the gang, and most of humanity and no dragon balls Bulma is "37" and it took her almost 2 decades to build a working time machine which was lost when cell stole it, and no real clue if she can build a ship to go to namek before she gets too...not 37
@@mrroboshadow fair, plus Babidi and Dabura arrived in that timeline years later, which meant the release of Buu. So, yeah, the timeline was "saved" temporarily and is probably completely screwed
MAJOR canon spoiler: The entire timeline that Future Trunks came from is completely erased, and Future Bulma along with it. Future Trunks ends up getting drafted into fixing damaged timelines by the kai of time, Chronoa, along with alternate versions of lots of other characters. It's...really depressing. All of that effort on Future Trunks's part, completely undone. But at least he saved the canon DBZ/DBS timeline, I guess.
I do wanna say that I really did appreciate TFS massively cutting this plot point and fight by just one episode 😅 In the original show, I believe Trunks powered up multiple times and fought Cell for like 4 episodes. The beginning of the fight Trunks (and at the end of the day Cell), didn't go all out at first because he was trying to lead Cell from Vegeta. That way Krillin could swoop in and save Vegeta while Cell was pretty much distracted by the fight... However, Cell obviously knew Trunks's plan and was just toying around. Not to mention, the OG show actually showed Goku achieving both Vegeta's form (Ssj Grade 2) and Trunks's form (ssj Grade 3).
Goku was also a student of Popo's, so he is also traumatized by Popi's training. Also, it's been stated a few times in Z that Goku is BRILLIANT when it comes to fighting, which is he could do the math.
Always like how cell follows Trunks with his eyes after he buffs up to watch what he's doing but not doing anything just to rub it in trunks face afterwords. "Then what do you call the past 5 minutes!" "Pity"
I also really like what Cell said before that: "By a wide margin, you're packing more of a wallop than Daddy ever did. However, you will never... *EVER* ... defeat me with that form."
Again, Perfect Cell Has some of the Best/Coldest lines, "Does Gohan Know, by the way? ... That you let hims Die." And "You couldn't fathom the amount of Dead Men Behind Me" And he didn't make that last part up, Goku actually sent a Rabbit to the moon back in OG Dragon Ball, it was a one-off villain named Monster Carrot
7th rule of Popo's training: Don't question his rules. I mean you Beth and Ken. 20 Laps ! 😅 Like my coach for soccer and tennis in school. Me: "But i..." Coach: "40 Laps. And shut up" 😅
Note that the difference between Trunks and Gohan is that the latter has a father who was willing to take the time and effort to teach Gohan why that bulky form wouldn't work.
One of my favorite scenes from the original show (Which i'm pretty sure they cut out in the abridged) takes place in the scene from before where Imperfect Cell shows up to fight Cell and the androids, when Cell powers up after going and absorbing those millions of humans you can literally see the souls of the people he absorbed rising up through his aura
Yep and sense vegeta and trunks weren't training together and trunks hid it from him Vegeta couldn't share that knowledge with trunks like Goku did with Gohan
@chrisbarnesbarnes8332 I could see him telling him and making fun of him for being an idiot. Couldn't imagine him not faking fun of Trunks for thinking he was better then him
The moment Cell went from super monster to super villain. No just a hungry evil thing out for blood and destruction, the ego, pride, and showmanship of the villain coming to the surface.
Goku and Trunks either knowingly or unknowingly fed into Cell's ego, just like Cell did with Vegeta. Like Vegeta, Cell thinks he's better than everyone, and he wants everyone to know it.
It was a long time ago but back in like episode 7 Krillin brings up the rules of Popo's trainning 1. Don't talk about Popo's trainning 2. Cry and now 6 don't break Popo's stuff
6th Rule of Popo's Training - if you remember, the other Z Warriors trained with Popo and were traumatized by it, often quoting the various "Rules of Popo's Training"; Goku trained with Popo in the original Dragon Ball, so this is just confirming that he *also* got the Rules burned into his mind, next to the PPTSD (Post-Popo's Training Stress Disorder)
For clarification, *_THAT_* wasn't a "second super saiyan" _that would just be dumb._ That bulky form was actually just a variation of Super Saiyan. It's basically just a buff of some sorts.
I feel like it's an unappreciated burn on Trunks how easily Cell powers up into his "ascended" form in less than a second just to mock him, when it takes Trunks a good few minutes of intense yelling.
14:3015:25 Respectfully, Ken is correct in this instance and Bethany isn't. Cell was inferring that Future Trunks's Super Saiyan 1.5 was more powerful than Vegeta's Super Saiyan 1.25 but he gained too much muscle mass and, as Goku also realised, the extra bulk made SS1.5 too slow. DBZ has official names for the new forms that Vegeta and Trunks used but you don't really need to worry about that.
A little bit of lore from the actual show: the buff form is actually Super Sayain 1 just with more muscles, so for anyone to stand a chance they would have had turned into Super Sayain 2 like Gohan.
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me." Great line but.. Anybody think about it? Cell probably killed thousands among a few cities and islands.. Vegeta slaughtered hundred of thousands across the galaxy in the same of Freeza Freeza himself was a genocidal tyrant emperor around the galaxy, and it seems to be his race can get much older than humans or anything, so he probably killed millions (including the whole Saiyan race) And the next villian we probably never see in a TFS version..killed even more. Like Billions.
6:00 it’s future Trunks and future Bulma’s fault Cell was able to get here by inventing time travel in the first place. Trunks present was the Z-fighter’s future, their _actual future,_ until Trunks came to the past and created new futures with his actions, including a future where Cell hadn’t been encountered and so Trunks, believing he had already ended the only threat to Earth in the androids, wasn’t prepared for Cell to ambush him to death and jack his Time Machine. If Trunks hadn’t broken the future, Cell could never have done that. He might’ve been able to kill Trunks, he might not’ve, but he definitely wouldn’t be able to travel 17 years into the past, acquire his perfect form and stand a great chance of destroying the planet and killing everyone 16 years before Trunks’s present. That was only possible through Trunks and Bulma’s mistake.
You may not remember, but early on (I think in episode 4 or somewhere close to it), Yamcha, Krillan, Tien and Chatsu went to the lookout to train with Popo. Later on, Krillain makes a joke, having PTSD from the training saying "Number 1 rule of Popo's training". It was mentioned earlier in the series that as a child, Goku went up to the lookout to train (when Goku mentions he had been in the timechamber) under Popo. So when the clock broke, he had PTSD about Popo's training and thus the "sixth rule of Popo's training"
Rules of Popo's Training: 1. Do not talk about Popo's Training 2. Always remember the pecking order 3. Unknown 4. Don't eat Popo's stuff 5. Unknown 6. Don't break Popo's Stuff Feel free to correct or add.
I like how cell was egging Trunks on to keep bulking up. Knowing the weakness that Trunks was willingly piling onto him self. I remember the first time watching the actual DBZ series as a kid and noticing when Vegeta powered up the first time against SemiPerfect Cell, that he actually powers down slightly right after. It happens in a quick cut shot... like maybe 1.5 seconds. But you can see Vegeta shrink and the yellow flames get toned down a bit. Then in this episode when Goku explains it to Gohan I was like OHHHHHHHH! Fore shadowing in DBZ? :O
In case nobody has mentioned yet, no, Cell was *not* making up the bit about Goku sending a rabbit to the moon. Early Dragon Ball bit when the series was more gag-oriented.
I am glad that you already noticed this, so I can say this without giving anything away. Android 16 is to season three what Nappa and Guru were to the previous seasons: He is hilarious, and you will quote everything he says!
Something that I think TFS capitalized on much better than the original: Cell knows everything about all of our heroes. He knows exactly what buttons to push to cause each of them maximum pain and he takes every opportunity to do so. It's not just about strength. This version of him is the best kind of villain: someone uniquely qualified to challenge the heroes. It's the same principle that makes the Joker/Batman and Superman/Lex Luthor dynamics so great.
the form Trunks was using is an Imperfect Super Saiyan 2 if i remember correctly. Raw power is crazy but you lose so much speed you'd never land a hit anyway.
The form Vegeta was using was basically him using a lesser form of what Trunks used. It's known as Super Vegeta. Trunks built on it, and it's known by fans as Ultra Super Saiyan, but it's not so much a new form as it is an enhanced version of a technique known as Power Stress. That's basically using ki, their power,, to force their muscles to expand and grow, giving them more striking power. But due to it growing in size, it causes the body to slow down. This leads to what Goku said. A 50% boost in power and strength, but a 75% decrease in speed and mobility. This is basically the "Square Cube Law". The basic explanation is that the bigger something is, the more energy it needs. Example, humans aren't anywhere close to as strong as a T-Rex, but we don't need anywhere near as much food for basic survival. It also explains that the bigger something is, the more durable of a frame it needs to keep from collapsing under its own weight. So, bigger muscles, more power, less speed due the bigger muscles. Vegeta found the sweet spot where he gave himself a considerable boost in power without sacrificing as much speed. Trunks, having no real experience in battle beyond being clobbered by cyborgs and a single easy win against Frieza, King Cold, and their soldiers due to a very large power gap. And those things Cell said Goku did as a kid? All true. Goku as a child tore through the Red Ribbon Army, defeated King Piccolo (Piccolo's father) and several of his children (Piccolo's brothers), and sent a person known as Monster Carrot to the moon to make mocchi for children (Monster Carrot was a humanoid rabbit with the power to transform any person he touched into a carrot, which he did to Bulma, so Goku used the magical size changing staff known as the Power Pole to wallop him without touching him directly, to force him to turn her back).
Goku did in fact sent an rabbit mob boss to the moon. even when they blow up the moon, the rabbit and his men was still ok. Recently in the DBS manga, the rabbit and his men are still in the moon
9:33 no, Cell did not make that last one up. Y'all should watch the original Dragon Ball after this. Also, Cell NEVER lies. Keep that in mind for later.
Cell did to Trunks the exact same thing that Goku did to Freeza: let him power up to max just so he could see how outclassed he really was. And considering both Goku and Freeza are part of Cell it may very well have been deliberate.
Quite a full episode, huh? Lots to process. Let’s see: 1) Goku actually proving that he’s smart enough to read people, like Vegeta. 2) Goku getting PTSD flashbacks to his youth, when he went through Popo’s Training. 3) Trunks outdoing his dad…For a bit… 4) Cell being the greatest roaster in the series, and delivering lines colder than Freeza’s entire family. 5) Cell deciding to go public again. Gee, won’t THAT go well? 6) Android 16 still being fun, despite everything he’s gone through. 7) Vegeta still tasting that Humble Crow Pie. 8) Piccolo and Tien running commentary, which we’re all thinking. By the way, you’ve probably been notified about the last two movies. It’s best that you do Broly either after Episode 55 or 56, but DEFINITELY before 57. It fits best in that window.
The forms Vegeta & Trunks took are called Super Saiyan Grade 2 & Grade 3, or you can just call them Super Vegeta & Super Trunks. As you can see, while these forms are cazy in raw strength it comes at a cost which is the loss in speed & mobility, exactly as Goku described it. Cell even stopped mid-battle just to explain that to Trunks, basically saying it takes more than just raw strength to beat him, you got to have at least the speed to back it up.
What Goku said about that bulky form is right because it will grant you power but you'll lose speed and the other major drawback is you'll lose power a lot faster
As cell said, all of the Z fighters could do what Trunks did, they just wouldn't because it makes them slower and there is no point if you can't land a hit. Goku is dumb, but he's a genius at fighting (thus the math) so he would never try to pull what Trunks did. As Cell said, Trunks didn't really fight much compared to everyone else. I do like this Trunks. He's kind hearted, and is very normal compared to everyone else. And I love perfect cell because he's funny has great wit, but very intimidating and you can feel it by how much he is playing with everyone.
The dead men line is amazing, but I also love "Am I sensing an iota of pride? Guess the apple doesn't fall far if you *shake the tree hard enough*". TFS's writing got so damn clever! Also, in terms of Super Saiyan forms - so, I mentioned a few videos ago that abridged somewhat skips it but you can see the different ways they were trying to improve it here. Vegeta and Trunks went for a higher boost in power/strength from Super Saiyan (hence the increased muscles for Vegeta, and which Trunks naively took too far, not realising the speed penalty). Goku's got a different approach, but we can talk about that when we get to it!
3:48 so, fun fact, when I first watched this episode I completely misunderstood this exchange and thought Cell was flipping Trunks's insult and calling *him* a psychopath. Basically saying that they're the same. Parasytes surviving at the expense of others. Cell with the people he absorbed and Trunks with Gohan. Which I though was a f#cking *COLD* insult. Obviously, I figured it out on a second watch, but still.
Trunks "This battle was over before it even began" Krillin "badass" Cell "also accurate" Cell is responding to Trunks because Cell already knows, thanks to all the experience granted to him by Goku, Vegeta. Tien, Piccolo, etc. That Trunks plan is gonna fail.
This was the episode I've been waiting for since 18 was absorbed; the music during Cell and Trunks' fight (which is my favorite of the entire series) the revelation that everything is happening because of Trunks, the comedic timing of Android 16 and the downright snark from Cell. I wanted to see all of your reactions, and I was not disappointed! I even loved the fact that we see Goku as the most powerful person in Dragonball Z, but even he is afraid of Mr. Popo (especially considering that in the original Dragonball Mr. Popo trained Goku on Kami's Lookout)
The two best parts of this episode for me: 1) The writers showing Goku as essentially an idiot savant. When it comes to fighting, he knows what he's talking about! He loves to fight, and has gotten really good at it even in terms of simple tactics! Everything else though? *Absolute* moron. I love that. And 2) Cell's one-liners. Good *LORD* did they do a good job at his one-liners! Dragonball Z always had good villains, but the charisma that TFS wrote into Cell and Freeza before him are just so good. P.S. I agree with the "What channel!?" line. It's just such a fantastic way to break the tension. And the line Bethany was trying to remember is when Cell mimic'd Trunks saying "Please love me dad!" and Trunks states "That's a terrible impression," prompting 16's beautiful retort "But *not* inaccurate!" Easily one of my favorite lines in the whole show, I end up quoting it a lot.
So, yeah. Nothing went according to plan against Cell.😨 Now that you know the full story of Cell, and got the idea of how manipulative he is against everyone, I do believe you’ll find his eventually downfall very satisfying. 😈
Cell is unfortunately right about buff mode being old news. Frieza did it on Namek and among the Z Fighters, Master Roshi uses that form the most often. Hell, Roshi used it back in OG Dragonball.
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me."
That line by itself is awesome, but Takahata's delivery just sends it to the top.
The writing in this show is amazing.
I love this line just a bit more:
Perfect Cell: Does Gohan know btw?
Trunks: Does he know what?
Perfect Cell: That you let him die.
@@Chucky_Martinez It's okay, but I never thought it made sense. Gohan literally knocked him out to prevent him from fighting. Trunks didn't *let* Gohan do anything.

@@Vejitatheouji Yep vegeta is very takented. Look at how quickly he learned how to read power levels

Remember how Goku mentioned the form slows you down? You can actually see Trunks flying to hit Cell, while normally they're so fast you can only see a blur
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me."
"Does Gohan know by the way?
People talk about how Goku had some of the best teachers, but Krillin, Tien, Yamcha and Chaoitsu all had the same teachers.
Cell has some of the best lines and roasts in the show lol
'...and you will quote everything I say' haha
And Takahata has some amazing delivery on those lines. So many people criticize abridged, usually without watching it, saying TFS are just taking the piss out of DBZ, but you can tell from how they steered things after the first few episodes that this is a homage that is packed with respect for the source material.
@@Elzzaw TFS is the only reason Dragon Ball Super became a thing; they kept the fandom alive and brought in so many new fans
"Why Vegeta?"
"Because I deserve something today!"
Tien has some of the best exchanges and lines.
It's the perfect comedic timing of the line. You're expecting the scene to end, only to have that come in and perfectly subvert your expectations.
the delivery of that one line "...you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me" is so damn loaded. cells power is BUILT on the bodies of the dead. the humans he absorbed. the cyborgs. while he doesn't care about it, the efforts of Gero as a whole.
But then saying it as a comeback to trunks, who he just revealed is essentially responsible (albeit via multiverse timeline) for him finally attaining all this strength and a means to test it when nothing else could? priceless.

But it's not the same as Super Saiyan 2. That's when you become as strong as Grade 3 but can still move at a fast speed.
Vegeta?
Super Saiyan 2 is basically having all the power of Grade 3, and then some, but losing none of the speed.
6:49 this is a custom mix of Trunks' theme *Hikari no Will Power* that TFS made just for this episode.

Also, yes.
@@NIKEONXX Ah, fair point. The extra context is neat, but the important part is that Cell was, in fact, not making that last one up.

Cell is the master of physical and emotional damaaaAAAAAge. There won't be an upping of this level of crippling zing until Beerus arrives.
13:06 Like Ken, people often debate between Imperfect Cell and Perfect Cell, but everyone agrees on one thing, his semi form is no-one's favourite. However, Toriyama did say once that his semi form was his favourite design of the 3.
now if perfect cell kept the long tail of imperfect?
good times...i get why it's not needed but the tail was co cool
The best form is definetly Perfecter Cell
Humor is the most hardest way to perform and sometimes you just need the right moment. 16 nailed it. And he will do it again.
So to clear up any lingering confusion:
This Cell is from a *different timeline* than the one that this Future Trunks is from.
Fun Fact: Goku actually did send a rabbit to the moon.
Sixth Rule of Popo's Training:
Don't Break Popo's Stuff🤣
Android 17 and 18 are Cyborgs, 16 is an actual Android, no organic human insides being completely synthetic and Cell is a bio organic android. His power can be sensed like living people.
9:30 All that is true. Goku really did do all that.
As much as I love the badass lines (You can't fathom the amount of dead men behind me", "What do you call the last 5 minutes? Pity")
..my favourite line is Cell: "..or killing Goku, now THAT sounds like a good time!" 16: "That doesn't make us friends!" Cell: "I'M TRYING, SIXTEEN!!!" :DD
So, just for clarity, there are *4 timelines* :
A) The "main" timeline the story takes place in
B) The Bad Future timeline of this Trunks
C) The saved timeline where this Cell is from
D) The timeline "Trunks C" saved
PS:
Someone pointed out that it should be 4, fixed it
yep though i gotta ask
is timeline C considered saved?
yeah the cyborgs are dead but so are Trunks, the rest of the gang, and most of humanity and no dragon balls
Bulma is "37" and it took her almost 2 decades to build a working time machine which was lost when cell stole it, and no real clue if she can build a ship to go to namek before she gets too...not 37
@@mrroboshadow fair, plus Babidi and Dabura arrived in that timeline years later, which meant the release of Buu.
So, yeah, the timeline was "saved" temporarily and is probably completely screwed
@@filipvadas7602 Not necessarily. Babidi needed the Saiyans' energy to awake Buu. In any timeline they are dead, Buu can't come to life.
@@Lycanthromancer1 yeah, but that's WAY later down the line.
16’s brain is broken.
“What channel?”
When he shows up, he’ll probably be on all of them, so…
I do wanna say that I really did appreciate TFS massively cutting this plot point and fight by just one episode 😅
In the original show, I believe Trunks powered up multiple times and fought Cell for like 4 episodes.
"Then what do you call the past 5 minutes!"
"Pity"
I also really like what Cell said before that: "By a wide margin, you're packing more of a wallop than Daddy ever did. However, you will never... *EVER* ... defeat me with that form."
13:20 I’ve watched this series 100 times but I never noticed 18’s influence on Perfect Cell. That’s such a great point
@12:25 so fun fact they did a clip show of buu arc [basically the best parts of buu saga] and vegeta actually calls krillin by his name.
you can find reuploads of buu arc here on youtube part one is already relesed.
Again, Perfect Cell Has some of the Best/Coldest lines, "Does Gohan Know, by the way? ... That you let hims Die." And "You couldn't fathom the amount of Dead Men Behind Me"
And he didn't make that last part up, Goku actually sent a Rabbit to the moon back in OG Dragon Ball, it was a one-off villain named Monster Carrot
I think it's around this episode when the DBZA audience started asking Team Four Star "whens Broly" again and again and again
7th rule of Popo's training: Don't question his rules. I mean you Beth and Ken. 20 Laps ! 😅

Note that the difference between Trunks and Gohan is that the latter has a father who was willing to take the time and effort to teach Gohan why that bulky form wouldn't work.
Yep
One of my favorite scenes from the original show (Which i'm pretty sure they cut out in the abridged) takes place in the scene from before where Imperfect Cell shows up to fight Cell and the androids, when Cell powers up after going and absorbing those millions of humans you can literally see the souls of the people he absorbed rising up through his aura
The super form Trunks uses is useless because you gain power but sacrifice speed. Both Goku and Vegita notice this, that why they did push it forward.
Yep and sense vegeta and trunks weren't training together and trunks hid it from him Vegeta couldn't share that knowledge with trunks like Goku did with Gohan

It was a long time ago but back in like episode 7 Krillin brings up the rules of Popo's trainning
1. Don't talk about Popo's trainning
2. Cry
and now 6 don't break Popo's stuff
6th Rule of Popo's Training - if you remember, the other Z Warriors trained with Popo and were traumatized by it, often quoting the various "Rules of Popo's Training"; Goku trained with Popo in the original Dragon Ball, so this is just confirming that he *also* got the Rules burned into his mind, next to the PPTSD (Post-Popo's Training Stress Disorder)
That smug cunning way of Perfect Cell comes more from the Freeza gens he has, but it is pretty charming you see 18 in this Beth.
For clarification, *_THAT_* wasn't a "second super saiyan" _that would just be dumb._
That bulky form was actually just a variation of Super Saiyan. It's basically just a buff of some sorts.
Names being Super Saiyan Grade 2, which Vegeta used, and Super Saiyan Grade 3, which Trunks used
I feel like it's an unappreciated burn on Trunks how easily Cell powers up into his "ascended" form in less than a second just to mock him, when it takes Trunks a good few minutes of intense yelling.
14:30 15:25 Respectfully, Ken is correct in this instance and Bethany isn't.
6th rule of Popos training is a reference to early DBZ abridged 1st rule of popos training don't talk about it 2nd rule is a reference to fight club
"Trunks, you couldn't fathom the amount of dead men behind me."
Great line but..
Anybody think about it?
Cell probably killed thousands among a few cities and islands..
Vegeta slaughtered hundred of thousands across the galaxy in the same of Freeza
Freeza himself was a genocidal tyrant emperor around the galaxy, and it seems to be his race can get much older than humans or anything, so he probably killed millions (including the whole Saiyan race)
And the next villian we probably never see in a TFS version..killed even more. Like Billions.
Next time on Dragon Ball Z Abridged.
Commercial: He-Tap come on you've killed for less.
Vegeta: That's not untrue.
Rules of Popo's Training:
1. Do not talk about Popo's Training
2. Always remember the pecking order
3. Unknown
4. Don't eat Popo's stuff
5. Unknown
6. Don't break Popo's Stuff
Feel free to correct or add.
Trunks (sotto): That's a terrible impression...
16 (os): But not inaccurate!
Trunks: WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!
I am glad that you already noticed this, so I can say this without giving anything away. Android 16 is to season three what Nappa and Guru were to the previous seasons: He is hilarious, and you will quote everything he says!
Man, I cannot WAIT to see how you guys react to the end of this arc.
This is my favorite episode. The dialog and the music are amazing.
Recently in the DBS manga, the rabbit and his men are still in the moon
lol krillin and vegeta almost became friends for a split second
9:33 no, Cell did not make that last one up. Y'all should watch the original Dragon Ball after this. Also, Cell NEVER lies. Keep that in mind for later.
This episode teaches us an important lesson:
It's not the size of the ship, but the motion in the ocean that matters.
Master Roshi approves.
The music you liked is a remix of trunks original japanese theme named "hikari no will power" check it out all dragonball japanese themes are great.
Imperfect cell and perfect cell are both really great villians
Cell did to Trunks the exact same thing that Goku did to Freeza: let him power up to max just so he could see how outclassed he really was. And considering both Goku and Freeza are part of Cell it may very well have been deliberate.
Quite a full episode, huh? Lots to process. Let’s see:
1) Goku actually proving that he’s smart enough to read people, like Vegeta.
2) Goku getting PTSD flashbacks to his youth, when he went through Popo’s Training.
3) Trunks outdoing his dad…For a bit…
4) Cell being the greatest roaster in the series, and delivering lines colder than Freeza’s entire family.
This is the timeline, where Gohan is going to be the first character to go super Saiyan 2.
Love you guys so much. Its a treat to see these pop up in my feed. Yall gotta do hellsing abrigde by tfs as well after this
The forms Vegeta & Trunks took are called Super Saiyan Grade 2 & Grade 3, or you can just call them Super Vegeta & Super Trunks.
Oh Broly is getting closer and closer
BTW, Cell's quote about Goku sending a rabbit to the moon was NOT fake. Goku actually DID do that.
And I love perfect cell because he's funny has great wit, but very intimidating and you can feel it by how much he is playing with everyone.
cell in his first form looks like a monster in his perfect form cell has the face of a male model those campaigns for hugo boss
when you guys are done with this you should react to the Dragon Ball Fighterz dramatic finishes and Dragon Ball Xenoverse cinematics
It was funny how cell was both trunks enemy in his mentor at the same time..
Trunks "This battle was over before it even began"
Krillin "badass"
Cell "also accurate"
Cell is responding to Trunks because Cell already knows, thanks to all the experience granted to him by Goku, Vegeta.
"Go, unreasonably buff bird!"
cellular data is the villain we all needed to see. He is perfect.
"Cellular data"? Did Autocorrupt get you?
Don't break my stuff, Goku.
The two best parts of this episode for me:
1) The writers showing Goku as essentially an idiot savant.
So, yeah. Nothing went according to plan against Cell.😨
Now that you know the full story of Cell, and got the idea of how manipulative he is against everyone, I do believe you’ll find his eventually downfall very satisfying. 😈
Cell is unfortunately right about buff mode being old news. Frieza did it on Namek and among the Z Fighters, Master Roshi uses that form the most often. Hell, Roshi used it back in OG Dragonball.
