What did you pick up? Did you jump the gun like Matt? Have you seen our recommendations? Let us know below! 00:00 Intro / Viewer Mailbag 03:14 Criterion Sale Details 04:40 Our Pick Ups (La Bamba, The Others, Mean Streets, After Hours, Hollywood Shuffle, Freaks, Dead Man) 09:53 What We Missed 11:34 Recommendations (Five Easy Pieces & The Thin Blue Line)
I went all in on the Criterion 50% off sale. Citizen Kane 4K, Princess Bride 4K, The Others 4K, The Game, The Knight of the Hunter (to go with my Kino 4K), All About Eve, Blow Out 4K, Videodrome 4K, Exotica, Sid and Nancy, Five Easy Pieces, Badlands and Mean Streets and Bull Durham.
After Hours/Something Wild/Into the Night all came out around the same time and shared similar themes. I love all of them, but Something Wild is my favorite, and my favorite film of all time.
I absolutely agree, right down to Something Wild being the best... I wish I had compared After Hours to Something Wild as a reference for Matt, as he's a fan.
I picked up One False Move, Princess Bride, the last Walz, the others, and y tu mama tambien. I recommend chilly scenes of winter if you haven't seen it.
Matt I jumped the gun on buying Freaks on a 30% off sale in October. And it was from the Criterion site which add shipping and all that other bull. Why I couldn't just wait a couple of weeks?
thanks for another video. I’m watching this from beach in Cancun! As soon as we get home, going to pick up Fugitive and Oppenheimer asap! I’m looking forward to your review on them soon gents 📽️💿💙
5:55 I haven’t thought of La Bamba in a couple decades, but being in Mexico this week, I was actually thinking about it even tho I never saw it but Gosh darn it.. that’s some powerful acting there. I guess it’s gonna be another 4K disc to add to collection 🇲🇽📀❤️
Errol Morris is a master, can't go wrong with him. See "Mr. Death: The Rise and Fall of Fred A. Leuchter, Jr.", about an execution technician-turned-Holocaust-denier, for a particularly grotesque story, or (also on Criterion, as a two-fer) "Gates of heaven" / "Vernon, Florida" for some colourful Americana.
For the first time, I had some self control - I got Mean Streets yesterday. I think it’s because I just snagged myself a brand new, wonderful new TV, but also because I’m trying to give my husband a chance to spoil me with movies for Christmas, maybe if he decides to. Lmao. He never has a chance. Poor guy.
😆Go easy on him and give him Criterion titles like I do with my wife. Sometimes as collectors we want specific editions, but with Criterion it's pretty hard for somebody outside of this loop to mess up purchasing After Hours on 4K. We'll never miss a slip, or get a variant cover, or a standard edition... Criterion is always consistent.
@@russceasetheruss5360 That works some of the time - but he’s pickier than I am sometimes and I like getting older films in the collection. Sometimes he’ll see a Criterion haul from me and say “Oh, fuck yeah! Another pile of old movies…” It’s interesting because he likes a lot of them, but he loves any chance to break my balls and roast my movie tastes. I almost forgot, along with Mean Streets I got The Age of Innocence. Hard to pass up two Scorsese picks. But still, that’s some kind of record for me. I usually go crazy during the sales. I also did the Flash sale in October and got Don’t Look Now, La Bamba, The Trial and Videodrome. I haven’t seen The Trial yet but I’ll get there. I also got the Others but I tried watching it tired and didn’t get too far in before I was asleep. Another day I’ll give it a try again.
Russ you sold me on a rewatch of Five Easy Pieces. It’s probably been about 15 years since I saw it last. I have no doubt I’ll get something extra from it, though I appreciated it quite a bit at the time. I’m going to check out Hollywood Shuffle. Don’t know Living Color and I only really know Key and Peele indirectly from Jordan Peele. No Barnes and Noble here in the UK but I did pick up One False Move 4k this week. Thanks for the video, always great to see you at the top of my feed.
I enjoyed it back then, I was just too immature to recognize my own bad habits of avoidance and fears of commitment in any personal form... but now, it hits like a ton of bricks. I remembered the ending (one of the greatest) but watching it this time, I wanted to scream at my TV. It's definitely one of those films for me that solidify why I fell in love with this stuff since I was a small child.
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving both Matt and Russ. No idea what I'm going to pick up yet I'll probably make myself do tier list that will help me decide
Happy Thanksgiving to you, as well! One thing I always remind myself about Criterion sales is that the packaging and editions are never limited, if I miss one this time it will be there next time.
picked up La bamba, the others, jackie chan emergence of a superstar set,the last picture show, portrait of a lady on fire, the trial, walk about, triangle of sadness, branded to kill, election, and mildred pierce during criterion sale

Man, that review of Five Easy Pieces by Russ has persuaded me to watch that movie.
After hours is very rewatchable
I picked up 12 4K Criterion's
Gotta love some Jimmy Jams, some Scorchy Cheesy, some Bobby Towns, and yes, the Others is a great film.
Bobby Towns 😂

Wow, great pickups!
Obviously, quite a few were due to your Criterion videos. Oh, just threw in Fast Times too.
I saw After Hours last night for the first time. Wow! Crazy movie! I loved it

Ah man I love Something Wild.
I picked up One False Move, Princess Bride, the last Walz, the others, and y tu mama tambien. I recommend chilly scenes of winter if you haven't seen it.
2:40 I got Russ’ verbal recommendation for JP Boxset- thanks! 📦✅📀
My rule on boxsets are 1) Is the series complete? and 2) I enjoy at least half of them compared to the cost
ORIGINAL CAST ALBUM: COMPANY is a great Criterion, if you like Broadway shows, but also behind the scenes movies.
Five Easy Pieces are also piano pieces he could play as a virtuoso
I may get After Hours. Picked up Lost in America and Tootsie
Matt I jumped the gun on buying Freaks on a 30% off sale in October. And it was from the Criterion site which add shipping and all that other bull. Why I couldn't just wait a couple of weeks?
Loved Five Easy Pieces from the BBS box set. Watched one movie a day from that set all in a row, a recommended method.
Dim Sum, Chan Is Missing, Girlfriends, Beyond the Valley of the Dolls, Safe and Chilly Scenes Of Winter are also good movies to pick up.
thanks for another video. I’m watching this from beach in Cancun!

Russ I am always looking for more Jack Nicholson. I think you just talked me into watching Five Easy Pieces.
He's in practically every scene if that helps, if you love him as much as I do you'll enjoy it.
