I suggest buying all the DVDs and Bluerays you can now because I predict that as streaming and internet becomes more expensive and the streaming programs continue to divide and increase in number, people are going to realize soon enough that it is cheaper to get physical media and not have to pay monthly fees. Then the prices of physical media will go up again. Since physical media is cheaper now, BUY THEM NOW AND GET A HEAD OF THE GAME. It may be a good idea also to buy a bunch of high quality dvds now cheap and sell them when the prices go up, because they will!
I had a friend that wanted to watch Schindler’s List and Drive but they were only available to buy or rent, so I let him borrow my Blu-Rays. I also had a friend that wanted to rewatch the "IT" films but they were removed from Max at the time, so I also let him borrow my Blu-Rays. Blu-Rays have so many advantages over streaming
My internet bill has gotten more and more expensive. So streaming is basically cable 2.0. DVDs and Blu Rays don’t need internet to play, which is a major plus.
Great upload, just got back into collecting 4k & Blu Rays for my new home cinema im having built. I have over 1000 Blu Rays and 600 dvds in storage at the moment until new house and cinema room built
Heck, just last week I was at a friend's house to watch Fellowship of The Ring. The streaming didn't work but he still had the disc so we were still able to watch the movie. I'm into collecting music discs myself, since it lets me feel like I appreciate it more. This isn't just something I find online, it's something I liked enough to keep on my shelf.
My story is quite long, grew up in the country side so i was still on a 27k modem when highspeed was around till i moved out in early 2000s so physical was still very much needed. Then i kept collecting even when netflix came out and many at work mocked my wanting for physical media, they all told me that netflix is all one will ever need. I knew this wouldn't be cause what company wouldn't just do it themselves after it became the normal. Now those people bug me for physical media to borrow cause their 4 or 5 streaming services don't have it anymore. Got around 3000 in total
For me, there's the dependability (If I want to watch something, I have it on hand) and the quality (the video and audio bitrate of a blu-ray can be much better than the stream of 4K, not to mention that you can't get true Atmos from a stream). Then, there are bonus features that usually aren't included with digital moves, especially older movies.
I can remember the last time I went to Blockbuster, it was at least a decade ago. I rented some episodes of Mario & Sonic. One reason I do buy DVDs and Blu-rays is because of the bonus content they have.
For me, I like being able to watch any movie I want any time I want. Not to mention that you don't own anything on streaming. Even if you purchase it. And it could just disappear without notice. I don't like censorship and many movies are now being edited for being offensive. That's crazy. How do we learn from the past if it's just deleted and forgotten. I also love owning the uncut versions of movies. For example, My Bloody Valentine was heavily cut with most of the gore scenes taken out. Scream Factory put out a beautiful Blu-ray (now a 4k too) with all those scenes added back in. But if you watch My Bloody Valentine on Shudder, it's the edited version. And Shudder is a horror streaming service. WTF? If there is a ton of stuff you want to see on streaming maybe it's worth paying it for some people but for me, there is almost nothing I need to see that I can't just buy on disc. I will always support physical media
I'm not a collector, but when I see a good movie/series on TV or Amazon Prime, I will buy the DVD. It's such a good feeling to have my favourite movies around, so I could basically watch them at 4 am or whatever. I also life in Germany, where the internet doesn't always function.
I’ve collected all the tv shows I like now and from when I was a kid. Lots of those can not be found elsewhere. As for my dvds/ blu rays, I like being able to watch what I want. I only subscribe to Amazon and Netflix so that’s another reason. I choose not to subscribe to multiple services. Also I don’t collect 4ks so I save a ton of money that way🎉
I really miss the days of going to HMV or Virgin Megastores. I also have fond memories of going to my local Video rental store, it was a family event, as a kid you would enjoy a family movie night and that. I mean people still can have a family movie night obviously but back then it would feel like an event as you would have to go to the Rental store and pick what you wanted to rent. It’s simple things like that, that you kind of miss really. But I digress. Also the best way to know who’s a Millennial and Gen Z, is to ask Do you remember CD shops?, if they say yes they are a Millennial, if they say no they are Gen Z. There are sooo many reasons but one that I don't believe was mentioned in the vid is streaming compression.. and this is why I still collect vinyls and CD's as well. Streaming movies in "HD" and even "4K" aren't visually and audibly comparable to their physical counterparts, blu-ray and 4K blu-ray. The same goes for streaming music versus playing music on a record player or CD player.
I recently cancelled all of my streaming services, and sold my new XBOX. Physical movies, music, books, comics, and old school game consoles are so much more fun.
I have never had streaming due to going over a relatives house when the streaming craze first started. They were excited to let me play around with it. So I did for two hours. That's how long I scrolled and input possible movies to watch and by the time I found something I didn't want to watch it and just wanted to go to sleep. Weird but I think it is because I had no intent behind what to watch. When I think about a movie I say "what genre am I in the mood for?" Once I answer that question I can picture or go look at the DVDs that match said genre in my collection. Making a decision from there is simple. The endless scrolling was exhausting and unenjoyable for me.
I love physical media, I just love that I can pick something off my shelf any time I like, and I love cool artwork on them. I don’t collect DVD’s anymore because tbh they were always ugly, with just ugly studio artwork. So I mainly collect Blu Ray’s/4K’s as they come in much nicer artwork and packaging, especially the Boutique ones. I like the fact I own them and can watch anytime, and I love the artwork as it’s nice to look at. Streaming can do one, because physical media will always be so much better.
My dad and I have been buying Blu Ray and 4K CD’s for over a decade now. I also try to buy physical Xbox games as much as possible, but they are dwindling fast compared to PlayStation ones. It sucks because I don’t want to switch consoles for physical media since eventually the PS5 releases will mainly be digital as well. Another reason why I love physical games more is due to the special editions. They come with interesting stuff like maps, stickers, posters, etc.
@@NilexRacing yeah, I have the "Return to Arkham" disk for Asylum and City. I love it because it includes all the DLC; the catwoman stages, all the batsuits, etc.

@CraftyF0X great point! Sometimes, even if I own a movie physically, I'll still watch it on streaming for two reasons. 1. The convenience of not going to get the disk. 2. If it's a more obscure movie, I want the streaming algorithm to see that someone is watching it!
I also love popping into a Op shop/charity shop and picking up cheap blu ray movies on the cheap and if I don't love the movie it didn't set me back much and I have discovered some of my favourite movies that way as welll
I love DVD's (and CD's) . I actually own the film and should I decide to sell then, I get the money, OK not mega bucks. Nowadays I tend to look in charity shops (thrift stores) and found many bargains at less than a £1. I've never streamed a film (or music) and I don't intend to.
There are a few reasons why I buy physical media is you get the best Video and audio quality and they cannot censor the movie because someone take offence

I think DVD has been obsolete for over a decade at this point. Buying a DVD in 2024 would be like buying a VHS in 2018. Blu ray and 4K should be the only thing people are getting since everyone has at least a 1080p TV. It drove me nuts when walmart was still selling physical movies and 95% of them were still DVD.
