Fantastic footage! Great to see you got some interior shots too. Hopefully this project spreads throughout the U.S., since there are so many little used branch lines that can easily connect with busier passenger main lines. Every branch line matters.
As of the 1st of December, Vivarail (manufacturer of the Class 230) have gone into administration which means it will probably be likely that these trains will not be rolled out onto the American railways any time soon! Back in UK, the Marston Vale line has been closed yet again due to the administration.
Yeah... Its cool to see the 230 in the USA but I don't think its going to happen now... Vivarail has gone into administration, the Class 230's with LNWR have all be pulled out of service and the whole line they serve has been suspended. The only Vivarail trains that are not effected are the Class 484's on the Island Line.
Yh, but that was because the Marston Vale Line closed. Anyway, GWR are thinking about adding 230s to the Greenford Line (for some reason, I have no clue how long that line is even going to exist for). But they want some. And of course stupid TFW want to get in on all the ‘new’ trains that get released, so they bought some also for no reason. These trains could also be appealing to other operators, for example WMR to replace the tiny train on the Stourbridge shuttle, however it would be too expensive. Its amazing seeing trains I once used to ride all the time when I was tiny being tested out everywhere.
It is because a company called Vivarail had rebuilt and refurbished them in the UK into the BR class 230. This unit was shipped to the US as a demonstration unit for Pop Up Metro.
I hunted the lone D78 on its 1st day in service all those decades ago, and ended up being underwhelmed...preceding CO/CP and R stock both looked majestic, you see...it literally tickles me beyond belief that a bit of one of those vanilla elements now happens to neighbour our own nearby, stateside neighbour in a robust-looking modern refurb...are TfW's own units also battery, I thought their engines for traction as well as rechargings, do you know?
@@TheRandomRailfan the company, Vivarail, was already pretty well established in the UK. Their main focus was repurposing/renovating old rolling stock for use on rural branch lines. The pop-up metro is a concept designed for American markets using their class 230 BMU stock. The bankruptcy came about from multiple issues with their service deliveries in the UK
@@TheRandomRailfan there’s a chance that the company will be bought, but it’s unlikely that it’ll keep supporting the pop-up metro initiative in the US. The town of West Chester PA was recently interested in the pop-up metro as an alternative to extending the Media/Wawa line; however, SEPTA has no interest in the concept and the FRA would most definitely reject the proposal due to the light construction of tube stock. The pop up metro is a really neat concept but it shouldn’t be used on mainline routes; tbh it’s probably better suited for rural UK markets
So cool to see British-designed trains on North American rail lines!
I used to drive those trains over 20 years ago here in London. I never thought I would see the D Stock being used in the US!

Thank you! One can only hope. There is LOTS of potential with this.
Ace! Madness to see a tube train on American rails! I effin’ love this!
AAmazing that a place intended to relive the past is also letting people live the future with these trains.

I remember seeing thses trains in London they were good trains and it's so amazing seeing them being used even in America

They’ll always be the face of the District line for me!
Travelled on them loads of time on the District Line.
Amazing Video! Great Work! 👍
Finally.
New EMU for the United States
In the back of my mind I'm wondering if it still uses the same Doors Closing alarm as it did when it was part of the tube.
I hope the D78 Stock will get better in the land of the free
I liked it!
I regret to inform you that Vivarail entered administration in December 1st 2022. Therefore Vivarail will have an unknown future.
Change for the Bakerloo, Northern and Circle lines 😂😂
are the interior shots real? looks cg
They are real.
I am confused how a D78 Stock has ended up in America

Yes. I think this is the only BR train in America

wow a uk train in the us or something
Very strange to see on American rails. Do they have serious intentions of selling to US customers?
The company just went bankrupt this past week, so no
@@toadscoper4575 That quickly???

@@toadscoper4575 I've heard of them, kinda shocking they're dying off already. It's gonna be fun for SWR to find parts for their Island Line stock lol
