Our local feral cat killed a squirrel outside our house here in North Carolina. We went to investigate and discovered these strange lumps on the squirrel. They turned out to be bot fly larvae! Tree Squirrel Bot Fly larvae. (Cuterebra emasculator). These Cuterebra larva emerged from the body while we watched. It was horrifying!
The music made it seem like wounded soldiers trying to get out of a disabled vehicle

Joshua I remember when my rabbit got on of those near her tail it was a bitch getting that thing out and I had to do it carefully or else it would’ve released a toxin that could’ve kill my bunny as a defense mechanism when I got it out I put it in a plastic zipper bag poured hot soap and water into it let it sit for awhile the thing wasn’t dead so I put it under my car tire and ran it over only to find out those things are as hard as steel so I burned it alive then ran it over again and threw in in a garbage can

Yeah no they wont kill the host. Unlike other parasites. They are considered "true" parasites because they feed on blood and tissue while developing inside of the host. But they dont kill the host. The hole that they leave behind may kill the host because of secondary infections but it wont directly kill the host. Its just developing inside of it. Until its ready to pupate then it emerges, falls to the ground and pupates immediatedly.

We have a squirrel which we rehabbed. He comes to hangout almost daily. We saw something near his shoulder, though it was a wound from a fight. As days went by it got large. Today, I held him and squeezed, thinking it was puss. Then a worm popped out. I was "What the heck?". Jumped on RUclips University and found this class (video) on BOT FLY.
Talk about learning something new everyday.
