  • My homemade monkey bread has tender dough rolled into balls with lots of gooey brown sugar, cinnamon, and butter baked in a bundt pan to create a delicious pull apart bread. Its perfect for a holiday breakfast or anytime dessert!

    Just made this! Turned out to be the best monkey bread I've ever had. Here are my thoughts on the recipe:
    I didn't have a bundt pan so I used a large springform pan; it wasn't quite big enough however, because it was packed to nearly overflowing by the time the baking was done. The very bottom/middle was still a bit doughy. In hindsight, should have just divided the dough between 2 loaf pans.
    It's a time-consuming recipe to make in the morning before breakfast, so I did everything the night before, right after the second rise; covered, put in the fridge overnight, then preheated the oven in the morning while I made the sauce. I highly recommend this, because who wants to spend two + hours making breakfast in the morning?
    This recipe does make a lot. My family of 3 really went to town on this, but we were stuffed and there was still about 1/4 of it left. So again, in future, divide the dough between 2 loaf pans and then just freeze one of them after the last rise. You will be happy later to have a quick monkey bread in the freezer.

    We used to make this when I was growing up in the '60s. This is how my mom taught me to make perfectly round rolls.I learned how to pinch the dough up with my thumb and first finger to make little balls of dough. We then put them in a loaf pan with butter that was seasoned with garlic onion thyme butter and pepper. We called it bubble bread I still make it today

    I am currently pregnant (which I am thrilled about!!), and found out that I have gestational diabetes, so I have to stay away from the sweets!!     Growing up we always added chopped pecans to our monkey bread! For individual portions, I sometimes make it in a cupcake/muffin pan, adjusting the baking time down a bit. Usually just 4 to 5 pieces per cupcake well, for anyone wanting to try that method.

    Tip: Make a french toast version with storebought challah and dunk them in eggs, then sugar and cinnamon, and follow the rest of the recipe. I used a similar one on Thanksgiving - so good!

    A family friend that I regarded as my “second mother” used to make the most amazing monkey bread. She unfortunately passed away a few years ago, so tomorrow I’m going to make this and see if I can’t recreate those fond childhood memories.

Everything from scratch!!Back then no one knew what I was talking about when I spoke of monkey bread. Too bad I wasn’t in the kitchen when she made the monkey bread, but I found your channel.       You should definitely try it! However, while the presentation of this is absolutely wonderful, I might suggest using a rectangular pan the way my family does so that each serving can have some of that oh-so-good sauce.

    In the 80’s this was a great dessert after dinner at a restaurant called “ Pipers” in San Leandro, CA near Oakland. It was called “ Cinnamon bread! an Old dessert. The church folks would have great food and rip into this bread.

    I tried with 4 cups of flour as it says in the video but my dough turned into a very dry ball after only 2 minutes of mixing. I made a second batch starting with only 3 cups of flour and it turned out just like the video. Actually if you watch the video closely it looks like he only puts in 3 cups to start. Just posting in case anyone else has trouble with this step.
    P.S. the first batch turned out fine after adding some milk to moisten the dough

    Pro tip.... put the sugar and spices in a baggie and toss the dough bits in it. This helps when the kids are too "grown up" to help and your grandchild is still at that stage that everything goes into her mouth. Later on, I will invoke my right to have her work as "grandma's special little sous chef". But until then, that right goes to the zip-loc baggie. :P

    Never heard of monkey bread before. That's a brilliant recipe and it's not too difficult - I'm definitely going to try it. It'd be the ideal treat to have (slightly warm) at tea time on Boxing Day after a long walk through the countryside or a park as you try to work off some of the Christmas feast calories! Thank you so much for an excellent idea.

    Our family prepared a variant of this recipe. Instead of making the bread dough from scratch, we used “wawhmp biscuits”, you know the ones, you peel off the wrap-around label then WAWHMP the tube on the edge of the counter. Cut each into four pieces, proceeding with the recipe as shown. 😂

    I've been wanting to ask this question for a long time: is that brush a real pastry brush, a paintbrush or a makeup brush?
    BTW, in Hong Kong we all need to memorise the multiplication table in primary school. The table is practically a catchy song so when you ask children what is eight times eight, most of them can give you a correct answer right away. Do you have that in the States?

    This was so good! I made this for my parents for their anniversary and they absolutely love this. I tried one of the pieces and it was soooo good. I had problems making the dough as my stand mixer was not good enough. Instead, I only had a dough that was mixed for 5 minutes and a broken stand mixer, but it isn't the recipe's fault. Next time, I am gonna get a better stand mixer so I can make dough better.

    Well I'm pretty sure I just failed my Spanish final. Time to make this and eat it all by myself. Might stuff it with some chocolate chips
