- When you're invited to bring a few speakers, and your synth rig, to one of the most stunning live music spots in Tasmania, you're clearly going to say yes!
I was attempting to play ‘something big sounding’ as a start to this gig. Didn’t quite work out the way I had planned - the additional workload of being sound tech at the same time never helps lol!
Anyhow, the main purpose of my RUclips channel has always been to help me practice for live sets; and so here is the first actual live set I’ve ever loaded up to RUclips :)
That’s the joy of live sets really, you can’t kill the camera when you mess up, you’ve just got to deal with the cards you’re played and hope for the best!
If you can’t be bothered listening to me doing an on the fly soundcheck, feel free to skip the first 10 mins :)
I must confess I wasn’t on top form at the start of this gig (a few speaker problems left me battling the rig through the night), and it was also freezing cold. As is the way with Tasmanian summers, we had the full 4 seasons in one day, and so it quickly got pretty hot! Видеоклипы
You seem to be surrounded by such beautiful people, it brought me such joy seeing all the hugs and love you got while performing
I am indeed. I know my videos may make it look like I’m just some guy in a bedroom, but nothing could be further from the truth!
The Tassie locals more or less forced me onto a stage a few years ago, and I’m forever grateful for that! Since my RUclips channel has blown up, the amount of additional help and support they’ve been offering has been very humbling!
I love Tasmania, and everyone who lives here! Awesome people :)
@@robthebloke
Yeah I just stumbled across this as a mod synth enthusiast and it's an instant follow.
@@robtheblokeRob "cloud nine" the best fkin syth set that ive ever heard man and I've been chugging since the late 80s bro, Exepional.
@@robthebloke is Tassie an "Australia's island state" as Google suggests, or do you put some other meaning in it? Sorry for the possible ignorance of mine =) Greetings from Ukraine, mate!🤝
You know what I love about this? Typically when you see people playing analog synth rigs, it's in some dark, dank warehhouse. But to see Rob just jamming, in a field, enjoying the fuck out of himself, nobody else around, it's so refreshing. Great set mate!
Haha, properly stared! Peace be with you strangers.
There were actually about 150 people there for this one. This set was about midday on the Sunday, after the sound system had been cranking constantly since Friday arvo.
The dance floor directly in front of me had a fairly decent turn out, but to be honest, most people were looking a little worse for wear, including myself to be honest!
If I’d been in the audience, I’d have been pretty annoyed if someone had filmed me cutting shapes on a dance floor after 2 nights with no sleep. That’s why the camera was pointing towards the toilets :)
The cloud9 crew have however invited me back for another set soon, but this time we’ll film on a Friday, when everyone feels fresh, when everyone knows cameras are rolling, and we’ll be able to show you how stunning this part of the world truly looks :)
@@robthebloke 150 humans and at least 1 kickass dog lol
On youtube it's more likely they'd be in a small room with several succulants.
This performance is a testament to the beauty of modular synthesis. It beautifully demonstrates that a well-composed masterpiece doesn't require the glitz and glamour of a packed stadium or the intense energy of a super-hyped audience to be appreciated. The skill and artistry on display here are truly remarkable, offering an incredible auditory experience in the most unassuming of settings. That said, you should be on the big stage as this performance would put any stadium on fire. Thanks for sharing.
All it takes is an audience of one for the universe to watch you create beauty.
Snapped me out of my depression, lifted my spirits….. thanks 🙏
Best dispatcher ever. Broken leg in a car accident & trapped inside ? Let this mans synth sooth you ahead of the medics.
Can I just say mad respect for bringing your ENTIRE rig outside lmfao, like no one does this sort of thing! Respect!!!
If the weather's nice. Why not?
@@darrinsiberia Condensation mainly and the elements, humify and such are main things people don't bring rigs outside. Clearly C9 NEEDS to show the biz : D worth the risk
I was thinking that. How the f he did it?
@@mastersunfishwith a car mainly ;)
I have literally had someone spill a pint of beer on this rig before. Had to pull the modules out, wash them in the creek, dry them in front of a fire, and I was back on stage an hour later :)
Analog synths are indestructible, thankfully :)
There’s a reason I’m playing underneath a gazebo - without it the sunshine would overpower the lights on my rig. And also it helps if it rains.
Which it did do, about 5 mins after this set finished :)
@@TheSyntheticForestnah, it’s tassie mate. It will rain, and it will not be a polite shower.
This rig is fairly indestructible. It’s actually the cases that are quite delicate. The modules inside will not die, despite how much abuse I throw their way ;)
My car radio has been playing Cloud9 non-stop for 14 days!!!Thank you!
Same !
I hope the rig enjoyed its day in the park as much as I did 🎶🌲🎶
Nothing beats a great musician on a modular that knows how to arrange a performance like this… clearly it’s done by “feel” and it sounded great!
You always look like you're enjoying yourself so much! I love it! True passion breeds the purest art.
This was literally the first time I’ve heard my synth through my PA system, and also, it’s my synth. Both of those combined make me happy :)
Acoustic techno I called. Awesome art, brilliant set, I love it
This video popped in my suggestions. All the mess of wires in the preview got me intrigued. The sounds did not disappoint!
I don't always subscribe to channels, but when I do, it's to amazing creatives like this!
I'm a musician myself, I've played guitar and bass guitar for around 17 years now.
This kind of equipment and style of music is literal magic to me... I have no idea what the hell is even going on, and it's such a beautiful thing.
Makes me feel like a kid again.
I love that I've stumbled across this channel.
Also, I have a ton of fun pulling out my bass guitar and playing along to your videos.
You sir are a very rare talent and I'm thoroughly impressed with your skills... proper electric amazing sound...
Wow, that is truly amazing. Passion, skills, vibe, creativity, everything to the point. What a contrast to all the overproduced stuff. You can tell that you live the music for real. I am very happy to have found the channel and will stay. Greetings from Germany
Glad YT recommended this, thanks for the wizardry that makes this contraption produce these amazing sounds that just pick you up and send you off
Listening to your music all day in work. Love this set
An absolute pleasure for the senses while I write a Narrative essay for my undergrad. Thank you for a wonderful hour and a half.
Hi my Friend... WOW !!! Now I'm an "older" engineer ( from old school of Alchemea College in the 90's)...looking your video ..the first thing i've seen is YOUR PASSION to create a musical event ( start view from your alchemist's vision of the sound )...GREAT ....🥍♥🤩😜
Brilliant and natural. Rob, you’re an amazing instrumentalist and composer, and I continue to learn from you.
I’ve spent all day watching your videos back to back after discovering the channel this morning. There’s something special about this set for me (teared up a few times during it to be honest). New comfort video unlocked. Thank you for sharing your incredible music!
Dude.. you are a an Angel of music...
Found your channel a few weeks ago. I hope you are enjoying this as much as I am, because I don't want the video's to ever end!

Thanks dude! The support is appreciated! :)
I just tuned in to your vids , very nice ! great use of sequencers /envelopes/ filters I really loved the one you did on Dec 10, the beauty of mistakes is happy accidents , Keep on doing fine work , great to listen to.
Dude you are absolutely nailing it with the uploads. Beautiful to see you are surrounded by sweet and loving people. Truly wishing you the best, cheers.
It's SO GOOD!!! I've been using a variety of your music for my background to work to all week now.
I could listen to this for hours
Amazing work. It takes a daring soul to use such a setup where many things can go wrong live. Combining that with passion and talent, makes it so good. Thanks for inspiring me to have another go at modular :)
I'm 60 years old and I love your music!!
I’m 44, but grew up listening to Giorgio, JMJ, etc. I’ve been addicted to that 70’s analog synth sound my entire life ;)
This was hypnotic and therapeutic. ❤Much love for your performance and dedication to great synth music and the great outdoors.
Seriously @#$% amazing. What a true synth artist. Wish I was still putting on parties, just so I could ask you across the ditch.
I came to your channel to the listen to the “big fat sound”. I stayed for cloud 9. Keep doing what you’re doing, Rob. You’re great 👍🏻
once i had 2 909 groovebox and played with it all night and day with 3 people totally lost in the sound, with this stuff i def will be lost in to sounds for weeks DEEP RESPECT MAN I LOVE IT
Damn that was awesome. I could listen to this for another 5 hours easy! Subbed.
Wow, this really is "hands on" music ! :) Love it. I'll have this on the headphones tomorrow at work.
U R a GEM!!! Glad I found U here. Subscribed. Dude.. your videos and music - really coolest things I watched and listened to on RUclips. Thank U ever so much.
It's original!!! Beautiful nature! Wonderful sound! Thanks! A wonderful channel! I'm staying! Cool!
Thanks for another absolute banger, Rob! It helped me power through the end of my work day.
Wow thats a amazing Maschine what u build ❤
Also the Sound is brillant...

Words are hard to come by for this, generous, magnanimous. It sounded big, I want bigger speakers now. THANKYOU!
it sounds amazing! Thanks for making these incredible sounds and keep it up!
I love the sudden pointed up index finger meaning ''i got a cool idea, let's try!"
Haha, pretty much :)
Thanks for sharing mate! Very inspiring, greetings with ❤ from Germany
My man, I’m running this set while I’m grinding through my work right now. Headphones on, phone and work IM on DND…. You may have prevented someone from getting choked out in my office today 👍
26:35
love it, perfect transition Rob.... going to listen to all this.
I am in awe, you are such an inspiration.
The live aspect brings so much character to your music.
It may sound "unfinished" if you compare to overproduced standards..
But it's so much more tought inducing ! Lovin it!
Cheers from France🎶❤️🎶
Just stumbled upon your channel and it’s such a breath of fresh air. Nothing better looking than some mountains and a badass lookin rig with some great tunes. Love from miami! Instant fan 🫶
I m so blessed to find you. Great work! Hello from the other side of the world ...
What part ? 🌐 : )
this is one of the illest things ive seen/heard on this website wtf

Glad to have found this channel. Greetings from Germany
A true blessing in the form of gorgeous analogue synth magic! You and your work exude an infectious happiness and peace!! Keep up the magic! 🤯🙏🏽
Thank you for the great work! I can feel your love in every single beat
brings good memory to my youth where Jean Michel Jarre produced such great synthesiser music.
My thoughts 😊
I was 6-7yo when Jean Michel Jarre made Oxygen. I was fascinated and like it very much to this day. I think he's highly under appreciated.
I just keep coming back to this one❤
Thank you very much! 🙏
I WISH I COULD HAVE BEEN THERE AT THIS GIG ! ! !
A beautiful vibes,
a we in the rhythms of dancing moduled energy ..
I LOVE THE SPACE:1999 SOUNDS FROM THIS ANALOGUE SYNTH ! ! !
When someone ask me about my favourite song I simply say Cloud9
I just strumbled into this. Fantastic!
This musical medicine is very beautiful to listen to ! ! !
I'm not sure why you thought this wasn't big sounding, but as a lifelong musician, I was grooving to this. Extra phat!
This is fantastic to have in the background for about anything. Really enjoyable stuff and really impressive too.
First uploaded live set congrats! Loved it. I often find how comfy I feel and whether I think it's "working" is not usually a reliable measure of how people experience it.
If you're open to feedback, there may be others like me who love a good sticky beak at the setup if you can remember to add a slow pan across the rig. Thanks for sharing!
i've already heard most of your videos many times. i got excited when i saw this upload. keep it up man, you rock
I enjoy the audio, but also the visual of watching you operate your rig. The constant movement and making tweaks here and there is really cool.
The loop and groove starting at 26:00 needs to be its own track. So sick
I love the part from 43:00 on, but 26 ist good as well, the whole mix is just awesome
@@michi_nrzwoagreed, every single groove absolutely jams!
I love the minor keys in his loops, makes it sound like something big is coming
43:00 so crisp@@michi_nrzwo
its such a cool melody
great work! Your sounds always help to calm me down :)
That was a ride! Polyphonic BBQ
You took your jacket off and things went to another level.
🎶 ♨️🎶
Recommended brought me here and as an avid synthwave listener, this is so nice! Subbed will be keeping up!

Knowing the ins and outs of this complex machine that is the assembly of all those different modules has got to be quite the task. It is truly amazing that your knowledge of this gear allows you to create such nice sounds. Keep up the good stuff, love from France :)
Pure fire ! Thanks man❤
I’ve listened to this at 30 times now, decorated my whole flat. If this was an album it would be as big as “ Jean Michel Jarre
This was such a good trip, thanks chief!
This is absolutelly awesome
