Thomas Muster takes the first set with a great running forehand, the fist pump celebration is quality.
The second set was high quality play from Muster and just mauled Sampras in this match. His best performance indoors not on a claycourt. The match point summed up the day he was having.

Rafael Nadal is a healthier version of Muster, who was hit by a drunk driver in 1989--his ACL and MCL in his dominant left knee were damaged, and required surgery. Muster still won a French Open despite his left leg becoming shorter than the other. I do not think that Nadal could be as effective as Muster if he was put through similar trauma.

Muster had one of the most effective backhands ever. He could place it and hit it with power. If he had ever been able to have developed a better service game, he would have been one of the greatest ever. His knee injury stole so much of his career from him...

To day there is only one Nadal but in 1980s and 1990s there are somany Nadals. Lendl, Muster, Jim Curier, Wilander, Vilas, Borg, Kafelinokov, Kueten,Yannick Noah, Henry Leconte, Albert Costa , Chang, Agassi, Then how sampras can win French open.

I agree with you. Nadal's movimentation in clay court is very similar with Muster's movimentation. The game style and tactics are very similar too. The only difference is power of strokes and the level of top spin applied to the ball. However, we should point out the difference of materials and physical preparation. Nowadays, young kids have phisiotherapist help since the very beginning of their careers. It didn't exist during before.
