Charlene released this song originally in 1977, but it barely made the charts. It was re-released in 1982, after a Tampa radio station stirred up interest again, by adding it to their play list. This time Charlene's whimsical vocals drove this tune to Number 3 in the US, and Number 1 in Canada and the UK. Beautiful vocals, lyrics and instrumentation made this a lovely tune. Great reaction Handsome Harri ❤❤ Thanks Craig for a great tune. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada ❤❤🇨🇦🇨🇦
This song came out when I was forced to get married due to being pregnant out of wedlock suffering silently 17 years of abuse. I knew then all my dreams were over. Very tragic and sad song for me then. At 61, I can say this song makes me happy that I survived and am getting to be and love me. Thanks! ❤
So sorry to hear that, sounds like you're picking up the pieces now though. I chose not getting hooked up again, after a couple tries. Best wishes. (And only 61?, you got plenty of time .)
@garyarnett1220 it's been a very long, lonely journey back to a sense of being. Thank you! After decades of therapy, I'm now living. Will never be out of survival mode, but I do find some happiness at odd times. I wouldn't dream of another intimate relativity, the trust issue boat sailed years ago.
I actually love Charlene - and really wish more reactors would discover her. I still have her cassette tape that I worn through so much - I have to order her cd through Amazon. MY favourite Charlene song is Can't We Try. Amazing build up and climax. Just an amazing song. Thank you for your reaction.
I haven't heard this song In forever!! The great thing about these reaction channels is, getting a whole new view of the song. Actually listening to it like you are, and realize exactly what she's saying wow!!
Such a lovely song, and such a pretty voice, long time since I've heard it. I guess she's just telling someone else who is feeling like they're missing out on something, that she had those things and now feels missed out on what this person has. Just that the grass isn't always greener, look at what you have and think if that's really something you'd give up. Thanks for this. ✌❤
Big play on radio back in the day '77 ( i was only 13 then) ..I didn't understand it at the time..but I understand it now..I was too young to know what she was talking about ...beautiful voice ! ❤
Great request! I've always enjoyed this song. Several artists have covered this song, including Nancy Wilson, Randy Crawford and even Walter Jackson from a man's perspective. Thanks for the reaction!
This song appears at or near the top of almost every list of the worst songs ever written. Penned by two men (who else?) supposedly representing the viewpoint of a woman who, by the song's account, had a fabulous life but she didn't pop out a kid so naturally she feels unfulfilled and empty as an old (older?) woman. Really one of the worst songs of all time, surpassed only by "Having My Baby" by Paul Anka.
Wow! I haven't heard this song in a very long time. Great melody, lyrics, and vocal; plus a very deep message.
Always enjoyed this song, you don't get music like this today.

Hi Harri, its Mick in the UK. Charlene is a British girl on the Tamla Motown label. Fabulous song. Take care, kind regards, Mick.
Not sure why you say she’s British, as she was born in Hollywood. She did marry an Englishman, maybe that’s why you thought she was British?
@NathanVeenstra Sorry my mistake.
@@mickcollins5748 no worries, I understand how this can happen 😉
always brings a tear to my eye. so sincere.

Always one of my favorite songs. For some reason I always pictured her as blonde! I'm glad to see what she looks like.
Ooh!
Deep dive track! She was phenomenal when this came out. Then she just disappeared!
This is such a sad song!😢

Check out the cover by The Temptations. Words changed slightly to portray a mans point of view
I guess I’m in the minority, but I thought this song was incredibly trite in the 80s and I still do.
I don’t recall ever hearing of this artist or this song, but I tend to agree with you 🤷🏻♀️
