@@dorian8875 ohh sry my bad may be i got confused.. i thought it was during 3rd and 4th.. that he becomes a pro.. completely.. but you are right it starts in season 2
It's an interresting point you're bringing up about the speach of Kageyama. I love to hear you discussing themes like progressing as a team and progressing as an individual! (especially so early in the 1st season)
Carlie's issue with Kageyama's word is a really valid point. If you only plan to play during your highschool "career" so to speak, it isn't a problem but since we don't know if Hinata wants to pursue after it, in case he does, this would indeed become a problem. So really nice argument to bring up!
Just want to add that Kageyama in middle school was unable to trust anyone else and just months ago no one want to received his Kingly tosses. Remember in the first episode Hinata yelled "Kageyama, I'm here!" That was when Kageyama first learn that there is someone who trust his toss. The fact that he become so emotionally involved with Hinata's struggle and said those speeches is simply amazing. Kageyama also always have a hard time to express his feelings and thoughts properly. What happened in this episode is just a 15 yo teenager trying to convince his first ever friend that he got Hinata's back. That he will not let Hinata be defeated because Kageyama will be there to give him the best sets. At this stage, Hinata is not skilled and Kageyama brought a trauma from his past. They are depending on each other. Hinata depend on Kageyama skill wise, Kageyama depend on Hinata emotionally, as you will see later. They are learning and evolving as human and athlete. That is all about it.
You're right Carlie. Yes working with a team is important but individually you also need to develop your skill. There is a dependency being created by Kageyama there that isn't great for Hinata as a player. If he's just relying on Kageyama then he won't ever grow himself.
Kageyama didn't create that dependency for Hinata not to grow. If Hinata is already skilled enough like a certain white haired player, then he won't even need to said that speech. Hinata needs motivation and confident as a player and that is not easy to build if he always felt insecure about taller bigger player.
@@roroellies8188 I'm sure it wasn't intentional but he still emphasized it with his speech in this episode. He could have said we'll help you get to that point, he didn't have to say as long as I'm here you'll be unstoppable. We know they both still have some maturing to do.
@@gemelwalters2942 LOL Hinata said the same thing to Kageyama, even in a middle of the official match. Almost same situation, Kageyama felt intimidated by an older and experienced setter and Hinata said the same words to encourage him. And are you forgetting that this is Kageyama we talked about? The emotionally stunted Kageyama who just months before have no one to received his tosses? The fact that he even went so far to tell Hinata that he will be invincible with him is already unbelievable progress.
@@roroellies8188That’s not the point. The point is, if Hinata is only good with 1 setter, then his progress stalls completely. (Spoilers: hence why this exact problem is tackled later on)
@@kingintox5743 stalls completely is not correct. Not working all the time with high level blockers is more accurate. Hinata can work with other setter like Suga so saying he is only good with 1 setter is incorrect. The minus tempo attack can only be done with 2 setters so far, not even Oikawa can do that. And if you have read the manga, Kageyama only did that attack with Hinata. Not even with Hoshiumi. Are you also saying that Hinata stalls Kageyama's progress too? Lmao.
I understand why Carlie felt uneasy with what Kageyama said, but the reason why he says that as long as he’s there Hinata is invincible is mainly because Hinata is in fact a really shitty player and lacks technique, so sadly for now it is true that without Kageyama, Hinata isn’t worth that much 😅 Also because no other setter can make use of Hinata’s skills as well as Kageyama!! :)
You probably already know this by now, but your team continues serving until the other team scores. Since Alumni-senpai kept scoring with his Jump Floater serve, he was allowed to keep serving. ^^
I also call him Shuga. Like I'm an army and there's a member Suga (Shuga) And every time he's called Suga on the show, I'm like, "Oh yeah... his name is Suga (wara)." 😅🥲
Listening to the end discussion, Carlie's got good instincts in terms of Hinata and Kageyama's initial co-dependency in their team dynamic. The both of them are still in the early stages of their growth, Kageyama is still just beginning to learn to let his desire for ultimate control go and Hinata is still just learning how to belong to a team and to find his own strengths within that team. It's great that she's already picking up on potential problems with the freak-duo so I'm very much looking forward to how they'll react to their progress in future episodes and seasons!! So happy you two are enjoying this series!!
this is why you guys are my favorite reaction channel, you always give valid and interesting points during your discussions. carlie specifically pointing out that part of kageyama’s speech is amazing. only 10 episodes into the show (atm) and you guys are already making great points about hinata and kageyama’s dynamic
Takeda-Sensei AKA "Take-chan" that you are calling the "manager" is actually the Club Advisor for the team. All* clubs, whether sport, STEM, liberal arts, or hobby, will have a teacher (like Take) or faculty member be the official advisor that acts as a mediator and advocate between the school administration and the club. Most advisors handle multiple clubs, though the sport/competitive ones are much more hands-on. Shimizu (AKA your "foxy senpai") is a 3rd year student and is the club's Manager. Manager is a student position and they are kinda always the "team mom"* (*in anime, at least. these are stock character roles for School-life shows.)
ooh love that you thought about that Carlie. I actually thought of that too during this episode. I really love and adore the duo, but I was already thinking that eventually, Hinata needs to learn that he doesn't always need to rely on Kageyama when he plays and be his best. Can't wait for the future eps. it's nice watching the team grow.
im interested how you guys paid attention to kageyama's speech, you would encounter that more during the further episodes and season, cant wait to say my thoughts once you guys catches up
9:46 one of my favorite quotes from the entire show. It makes me sort of emotional if I’m going to be honestly, especially as a (former) volleyball player who played middle blocker. Middle-Setter connection is where it’s at 😩 I get what Carlie means tho, but we have to be realistic here. Factually speaking, Hinata is the worst player on the entire team as of currently. His entire playing style is carried by his raw athleticism and Kageyama’s pure, genius setting skills, so Kageyama wouldn’t be wrong if he were to outright say that Hinata is only a great player because of him. However, I don’t think that was what he was trying to imply when he said, “as long as I’m here, you’re invincible”. Rather, he means “oh you’re inexperienced so you lack this, but I can help make up for it so that you’re able to overcome it”. It just ties back to the idea of teamwork, and how important it is to work with others. Everyone has their flaws and things they cannot do or don’t have the skills to do YET, but someone else might. And by working together (by making up for one another’s shortcomings), they can overcome challenges and grow stronger together. It’s such a small, little interaction that might not seem so significant at first glance, yet is an important stepping stone that helps pushes one of Haikyuu’s biggest themes forward. *PS: feels like I’m writing an essay 😂 maybe I should send it to my English teacher and have him read it just so he can see how good my analyzing skills are lmfaoo. I’m always leaving such long comments, I hope you two don’t mind it too much!*
This anime shows all the different emotions a human can experience when playing a team sport both on a player level and coach level. You guys will surely miss this anime once u finish it because trust me I have been waiting for a very long time for the new season to drop and not just me but many Haikyuu fans are eagerly waiting for it! After DBZ(super included), AOT and JJK, this is my fav anime followed by Demon Slayer! Pure adrenaline rush throughout the matches that they play!
About the assessment on Kageyama's speech, Carlie is correct here, Kageyama is really saying that Hinata needs him to be "unstopable", but even tho Hinata has incredible athleticism, speed and jumps high, he still is a small guy around 163cm. If it wasn't for kageyama with the freak quick, hinata would receive regular tosses and since hes smaller, he would be just a "worse" version of other taller spikers (in theory ;D ). As for Kageyama's side of it, Ange said that Kageyama also depends on Hinata to be good, because he was "bad" before, which is not true. Kageyama was always good and incredibly talented, a true genius, the problem that made him bad in Kitagawa Daichii before was his selfishness and attitude, since he already is slowly fixing the atitude problem on Karasuno, he as a talented player can adapt to anyone. Even tho the Kageyama & Hinata duo is amazing together, truth is, he doesn't need Hinata to be a good setter, because he's a genius talented setter, his foundation with volleyball is also far better, as for Hinata, he has a lot of potential due to the crazy athleticism (the kid NEVER gets tired), he still has a lot of basic stuff to learn.
The server continues to serve until they lose a point. which means they lose the ball to the other team to serve and they have to rotate. next time they get the ball someone else will be in the position of server.
Ahhhh it feels nice to get back to Haikyuu even though I have watched it this for SOOO many times. I love your commentary as well! I know what will happen next so it's fun to hear how you process all the things that are happening for each episode. It makes me excited for you to watch the rest of it!
English speakers pronounce it that way (option 2, which is butchering it to be fair, as it is a loan word: but many others including Japanese speakers, Italians, Brazilians along with most Latin languages pronounce it with option 1. It means “free” as an adjective, standing for “free player”.
Just so yknow, Haikyuu is one of those animes that can just make you tear up😂 it gets better as it progresses and it's like you've read a wonderful novel of some sort. The characters are quite realistic and it just feels like you can dream again (even if you have no connection whatsoever to volleyball😂) but it did lead me to watch more volleyball games cuz of how accurate the games are depicted on the show minus the dramatic hang time of the players ofcourse😅
So I also didn't know how to pronounce Libero either. But Sarah Pavan, who is an Olympic volleyball gold medalist, pronounces it Lib-air-oh (option 2). I'll trust the expert lol
Tsuki is one of my favourite characters in the show, prolly in top 3. Him picking on others is hurting no one, it is just his way of joking, annoying his friends a little. But everyone knows he doesn't have any ill intent, no one gets mad on him. Also, his habit of picking on others might come in handy in matches against others too:)))). And, yeah, his developement will be great in the later seasons
Carlie's insight about hinata being effective with kageyama is actually a great inisght. Amazing that she caught on this early. Ange is right also tha right now, they jist have to follow through and work what they have. Excellent reactions and excellent discussions. Truly my best go-to reaction channel. XD

Foxy senpai's name is Kiyoko Shimizu😂 You can vall her Kiyoko or Shimizu...foxy senpai is fine too but it would be good to remember the name too so both👌🏼
i'll explain rotation as much as i can. In Voleyball the side of your court parted 2 as front and back, ın the rotation front ones can attack every where at court but back ones can only attack from back and when you get the point after oppenent point the six people of the court rotation like right front go back and left back go left front. This is the rotation basically, They turn like clockwise
Hi! I just found your channel and now I will watch your Haikyuu reactions in marathon. Btw, I love your discussions about Kageyama's speech towards Hinata. Thanks for the video!
It's a testament to Haikyuu's character work that I, who despised Tsukishima about as much as Angelo does at this point, came to regard him as my favorite character by the time the show was over.
Option 2 in our country. Not sure what's the correct pronunciation too 😂 Btw as long as the team serving is scoring at the same turn they serve, no rotation will happen. That's how the same guy is serving 4/5 times in the jump floater scene. In that 4/5 serves, the team with Kageyama and Hinata in it failed to score a point.
Can I just point out how cute it is that Tanaka can just casually call Takeda-sensei "Take-chan"? That'd usually be considered insanely disrespectful to say to a teacher but Takeda-sensei is so chill that he has no problem with is. It's so awesome that although he doesn't know much about volleyball, he's very friendly, approachable and reliable and the team can feel super comfortable around him.
with pronunciation of libero, it's all preference really, the two you suggested are both commonly used, In Australia I tend to hear Option 1 more than 2.
The speech I felt like was more directed toward Hinata, when Kageyama said those things he was talking about Hinata’s trust in him and that since Hinata doesn’t have the same trust in the other setters it would be harder for him to hit more consistent shots he’s basically saying that they r like Batman and robin and they wouldn’t be able to work with out each other. My bad if that’s what u basically said in discussion (and my bad on the spelling)
Carlie is right we have to be patient to see tsukki's development and it will be worth it and yes tsukki is in the trio gp even tho he didnt like kage and hinata lol
Kageyama didn't say hinata could only be great bcuz of him he said as long as he is here he doesn't need to worry So basically yeah hintata is still relying on kageyama fully, hinata is amazing cuz there is a great setter there. That is for now ofc cuz this is one of the most important plotline of the series so just wait and see how the shrimp grows over time on his own as well.
@@regalroyn1011 exactly, they ADDRESSED the problem later, which is the right time because AS IF everything will be perfect in the beginning. There is nothing wrong with Kageyama and Hinata encouraging each other as 15 yo teenagers saying basically "yo bro I got your back no one will defeat you as long as I'm here" which is CUTE.
Takeda-sensei is the teacher who handles the Volleyball club. Kiyoko-senpai is their manager. And please no. Please don't call her foxy-senpai. We respect her too much. Hehehehe. And also, Kageyama just wants Hinata to see the role of an ace that's why he told the other team that he's going to set it to Hinata, so (Carlie's right) they can block him. Tsukki is just teasing, hahahaha.
I mean about what carlie said, it really is the case there since at this point in time, hinata only has his athleticism to offer to the team that is why the show emphasizes hinata's determination for growth. Hinata & Kageyama's duo will be described by Nekoma's coach more effectively later on. Im looking forward to your reaction on that match.

In Voleyball the side of your court parted 2 as front and back, ın the rotation front ones can attack every where at court but back ones can only attack from back and when you get the point after oppenent point the six people of the court rotation like right front go back and left back go left front. This is the rotation basically, They turn like clockwise
Shimizu is a very essential member of karasuno. Call her by her name or manager. She is just a high schooler. Calling her foxy sounds inappropriate 🙂
Hi! I just found your channel and now I will watch your Haikyuu reactions in marathon. Btw, I love your discussions about Kageyama's speech towards Hinata. Thanks for the video!
Yesss omg unexpected upload but so happy! (Also just finished bingeing your arcane reactions and omg loved rewatching it with yall)
It's a testament to Haikyuu's character work that I, who despised Tsukishima about as much as Angelo does at this point, came to regard him as my favorite character by the time the show was over.
Option 2 in our country. Not sure what's the correct pronunciation too 😂
Btw as long as the team serving is scoring at the same turn they serve, no rotation will happen. That's how the same guy is serving 4/5 times in the jump floater scene. In that 4/5 serves, the team with Kageyama and Hinata in it failed to score a point.
The way we call Nishinoya’s position is Lee-bear-row. Libero. I don’t know if it’s pronounced differently
Foxy senpai is perfect to call the manager i love it!
A float serve is mad hard
No need to feel bad about getting names wrong, it's still early on in the show, you'll get it eventually :D!
Tsukki is the patented mean girl of this show lol.
Thumbs up for calling shimizu foxy senpai for me 😂
I love u guys sm 🥹💟
with pronunciation of libero, it's all preference really, the two you suggested are both commonly used, In Australia I tend to hear Option 1 more than 2.
So no one gonna tell them about the teacher's VA?? 😊🙊🙊
I still can't get over the fact that Takeda and Levi have the same VA😭
really good point Carlie!
15:54 she is catching on things 😂 . . . Hmmmmmmmm
Your every questions will be answered in the later seasons i swear 😅
The speech I felt like was more directed toward Hinata, when Kageyama said those things he was talking about Hinata’s trust in him and that since Hinata doesn’t have the same trust in the other setters it would be harder for him to hit more consistent shots he’s basically saying that they r like Batman and robin and they wouldn’t be able to work with out each other. My bad if that’s what u basically said in discussion (and my bad on the spelling)
Carlies observation is on point! Yeah, hinata is very dependable on kageymas ability
I love how charlie adore hinata 😭😭😭.....i love she talking about "what about if kageyama won't be there with hinata"
Such a feel-good show :)
I believe thst when scoring a goal/point with a serve you continue serving until you're blocked
libero: option 2. Exactly the same as in football/soccer.
...and, yeah, you can and should call Shimizu 'Foxy Sempai'.
Im enjoying the haikyuu reactions and, I know this is a different anime, but I cant wait for them to watch bluelock 😂
Carlie is right we have to be patient to see tsukki's development and it will be worth it and yes tsukki is in the trio gp even tho he didnt like kage and hinata lol
Hello,it 's First libero. I'm glad you enjoi this anime
Carlie is so perspicacious!
Where can I listen to Ange's full guitar covers? I love this cover 😭
in portuguese we pronounce option 1
I'm so looking forward to this one
7:05 Noooooo is dead! 😭
I don't know if you know or not but that green tracksuit teacher takeda sensei has same voice actor as levi
I recommend you guys to reaction kdrama moving because that drama is amazing, one of my best kdrama this year
Kageyama didn't say hinata could only be great bcuz of him he said as long as he is here he doesn't need to worry
So basically yeah hintata is still relying on kageyama fully, hinata is amazing cuz there is a great setter there. That is for now ofc cuz this is one of the most important plotline of the series so just wait and see how the shrimp grows over time on his own as well.
Karasunooooo Fight!! Love it so much 🧡
Carlie is on to something at the end 😎😎😎 📈📈📈
Same with Carlie, I was also bothered by Kageyama's way of motivating Hinata. What if he's not there?
Well that is the point. He is there to help Hinata with the quick attack, which at this point of Hinata's skill, is very important.
@@roroellies8188 Well, they address the problem in S4 that's why I use was. But don't wanna spoil too much
@@regalroyn1011 exactly, they ADDRESSED the problem later, which is the right time because AS IF everything will be perfect in the beginning. There is nothing wrong with Kageyama and Hinata encouraging each other as 15 yo teenagers saying basically "yo bro I got your back no one will defeat you as long as I'm here" which is CUTE.
Foxy sempai is cool. Her name called by Noya last time was Kiyoko (first name)
15:38 all I am going to say is just wait.
Karasuno! Fight!!!
Always got me chillssss
Option 2 for "libero"! ❤
I’m down with Foxy-senpai
we love the tough love kageyama has for hinata
I mean about what carlie said, it really is the case there since at this point in time, hinata only has his athleticism to offer to the team that is why the show emphasizes hinata's determination for growth. Hinata & Kageyama's duo will be described by Nekoma's coach more effectively later on. Im looking forward to your reaction on that match.
doesn’t want to ruin the moment while talking thru the moment
Option 2
Keep it up! You're doing great!😸👍
Yes, jump floats are real serves that move in a weird way and they absolutely suck
