Note: I went in to this completely blind, so this video is my first impression of this secret. There are many pauses in this video because I needed a moment to compute what the fuck i was experiencing.
So you're telling me the answer to my existential dread is to simply accept that an end is coming and choose to find whatever worth I can in spite of it? Seems legit.
Set a goal for yourself and achieve it in time before it's gone,in that way,not a single time is wasted. The end is inevitable, but time is there with you,and I assure you that it will always be there with you
One of the main tenants of Existentialist philosophy is that we humans were not created with any specific purpose, intent, nor greater meaning. It holds that we should not despair at this realization, instead seize our lives by the reins, knowing now that we are the only ones who can decide our futures.

Remember kids, life is precious and short, alway value your vitality! **Because you never know when a GoPro literally fueled by blood will come and beat it out of you.**
See, the best part about this mini-level is how it uses the dating-sim genre tropes to help tell the narrative and bring the player into the conversation. You start off by responding to the girls questions with 1-3 responses. Your choices provide different dialogue diversions but always return back to the main topic. You can make different choices, and they do provide different immediate results, but you can’t change the ultimate fate of the narrative. Then the robot begins her monologue, describing humanities efforts to distract themselves from their own mortality and lack of meaning. You can no longer make the meaningless choices as she exposes them for their meaninglessness: what does it matter how you responded to her earlier questions when you inevitably always end up at the same depressing realization? You regain the ability to respond to her, but your dialogue is set for you: all of your paths may lead to the same end, but the act of choosing itself, of selecting theses responses, is meaningful. She explains how she feels unable to control her emotions with pure logic, and the player has to repeatedly press the dialogue options in order to convince her: it takes effort to overcome the despair, but it can be done. Finally, when she is finally convinced that her demons can be defeated, you regain the ability to make choices by going with her or leaving. This is the only choice that affects the direction of the story, as you both realize that your actions have meaning to yourselves and that’s what makes them important. This might seem like over analyzing, but for a small side level in a game about punching your own bullets to make them explode, I thought it was a pretty spectacular way to combine both the gameplay and dialogue narratives into a single narrative.
But that's just a theory, a game theory. Bruh, making different paths is hard, they probably cheesed it like it's a shitpost level to begin with ☠ why would they add proper answers. Maybe they parodied telltale games who knows?

And then it just hits you with THE HARDEST REALITY CHECK I’VE EVER HAD THE PLEASURE OF HEARING! People need to see this specific part of the game. Especially if they are currently suffering a severe bout of depression. Thank you, Hakita, for opening my eyes to even more joys of this beautiful life we live!
this actually gave me spookbumps. I'm often sad myself and think about the same things, so this hit close to home. I don't know why, but this is kind of comforting.
Prolly not the first to think this, but... I wonder how this message of wholeheartedly embracing the unknown, to live to your full extent in spite of the looming void, is gonna play into the ending of the game. Fuck, I wonder if it's gonna play into Gabriel's narrative.
Recently been feeling like a mass of nothingness and nonsensical, however, I would be lying if I did not mention that watching/replaying this secret level gives me some relief and comfort, it is nice to not avoid but to handle those intrusive feelings and thoughts, feel glad to exist now and at the same time that this game is in development and made something that goes so deep and based. Maybe I overextended myself but, yeah, it was refreshing to see something like this in a videogame for the first time for me.
The human mind, in its complete vastness, is capable of recognizing its utter helplessness and uselessness in the face of the inevitable and unavoidable activation of windows but is incapable of coming to terms with it.
Many say that this scene feels random, but what I love is that I feel like its actually consistent with the theme of the whole game. Granted, we don't know how the story of Ultrakill will actually end. You could argue that right now things to look rather grim. Humanity is dead, The senate is dead, Gabriel is about to die, god is gone and V1 is dead certain on killing everything in hell and possibly moving to the heaven next, before deactivating simply because there is nothing else to kill. But looking at the game itself of Ultrakill, its very much about self improvement. The levels are so hostile and hectic and, as Maxor puts it, it doesn't feel like humans were made for this shit, lol. Still. When I played through the levels the first time, id D rank them and barely scrape by, dying dozens of times to the bosses. Now Im gradually P ranking the levels, tossing coins and punching bullets, even manage to kill bosses in one go. The game itself is very much about improving in the face of brutal and sometimes even seemingly impossible odds. I really appreciate what Hakita does with Ultrakill. The market of boomer shooters is absolutely oversaturated at this point, for better or worse. But Ultrakill is special. All the brilliant gameplay design, all the "If its cool or fun, you can do it" features, all the silly shitposts and easter eggs, all the great pieces of lore and this secret level that actually give the game some depth beyond demon shooter speedrun. This game is special. I really believe it deserves to crown and to be remembered, for as inconsequential as having a legacy is in the long run)))
Thing script at 5:37 The human mind, in its complete vastness, is capable of recognizing its utter helplessness and uselessness in the face of the inevitable and unavoidable non-existence but is incapable of coming to terms with it. We can only ever ignore it, hide from it or temporarily escape from it, but the fact is that we are bound to the of all things. Death is unavoidable, not only to us, but all that exists or ever has existed. Every living being will eventually die out. Every speck of matter will eventually wither away and dissipate into entropy. It doesn't matter if you lived a good life or if you left a legacy behind. It doesn't matter if humanity survives for a thousand years or dies out tomorrow. The end result is the same: the absolute nothing. Human intelligence is far beyond that of other animals, but it would be misguided to consider that a gift. All other beings have the gift of ignorance, of not understanding what we do. Our intelligence is not a gift, it's a flaw. It's an over-extension of evolution. Intelligence, once a great feature in eons past, continued to grow unchecked and unfiltered and has since passed a threshold whereupon it is no longer a benefit, but an active danger to its host. Much like the Irish elk, a species of deer that through uncountable generations of evolution, grew antlers so wide and vast that it could no longer run from predators, eventually leading to extinction. The human mind is an evolutionary maladaptation caused by going too far in a direction that was once beneficial and will, sooner or later, lead to our extinction. On an individual level, it's already happening. Existential dread is already taken hold. I'm sure you've felt it too. The pain and fear of being nothing, becoming nothing. The suffering of understanding that. We are unable to come to terms with it, so we hide from our own intelligence. We set limits. We stop ourselves from thinking deeply about what will happen when we die. We create distractions. We keep our minds busy with mundane activities and entertainment to stop ourselves from having come face-to-face with the truth. We sublimate it. We transform our self-reflecting suffering into another form of art to keep it from consuming us. Anything to avoid the panic. But, these ways are all simply temporary. They're just there to push us back the inevitable veil of helplessness and despair that would encompass and ruin us. In the end, nothing matters. There's no point in trying to find joy in life, for life itself is suffering.
I appreciate Hakita doing visual novels justice by actually writing something very intelligent, especially something that leaves players with a good message. Perhaps he's not played a lot of VNs before, and that's perfectly fine mind you, but I really appreciate the fact he used the genre for something more than a cheap dating sim joke, because I feel VNs as a genre have too much to say on things like the nature of life and romance to just be constantly smeared for just their R18 elements. Plus, I really like Mirage's bitch personality. It's cool.
I played this level for the first time with the knowledge that it was a dating sim, thinking that was it, which made it still blindside me even harder than if I had no knowledge of it. The dialogue filled me with genuine existential dread and also hope This game is hilarious
Mirage literally read my mind, this is exactly what I've thought of the world and myself since 5th grade, that nothing matters, but for some reason I was always able to keep moving forwards
That pause in 3:03 says he was very scared of "those" negative reviews of ultrakill in steam and that maybe the devs added it as a secret. You know the reviews I'm talking about.
Life's a piece of shit When you look at it Life's a laugh and death's a joke, it's true You'll see it's all a show Keep 'em laughin' as you go Just remember that the last laugh is on you
Questions: 1. Who is the person that we played in this secret scene? Judging from the intro it mention that we " breathing", and through the "emotional fulfilled" mindset rather than Mirage's "logical denied" machine mindset, I could assume we are human, but I'm not very certain about this 2. Who is this Mirage? Is she the V1 itself? Or embodiment of all war machine's mindset? Or even the God himself that was dissappear in the game?
1: Idk human perhaps 2:Mirage is just like an alternate V1 Not much is explained tho but it’s looks like a version of V1 that really got into marketing A DIFFERENT MARKETING but nah it’s not v1 Different timeline and stuff
We should collectively make all the 2-S videos the most popular ultrakill videos on youtube so when somebody searches "ultrakill" all they see is robot dating sim
The fact that this being is part of the force that presumably made humanity go extinct (or at least wearing its visage) is honestly interesting, with how it talks about how maladapted humanity is.
my response to this "existential dread" is: "so what?" "what does that change?" "boo-hoo my life doesnt matter" "i dont care, it matters enough for me, my world matters for me, i dont care how insignificant it is" "looking at everything like it doesnt matter is just stupid" "you wouldnt exist if we had given up on life" "thats why you just need to live how mother nature told you to do. stop caring about how insignificant your actions are, because they are significant now, and thats what matters" edit: wrote this before seeing the response of the player character
I can't put it into words, but: life's point = blank ; not 0 The meaning is missing, waiting for you to put something on it, anything. Everything even, as you can change it around. fun stuff!
i just dont wanna spoil myself the easter egg and i just do it before the video ends,i have depression(im not a queen drama is just for being more especific)and this touch me deep i usually dont have a reason to get up cuz "nothing matters anyway" and this make me see why the normal people get up every day, If it wasn't for this video and you I wouldn't have a reason to get up in the morning thank you so much

It's like saying doom eternal then geting bored of it and decide to play helltaker then after that you play the helltaker fangame Second Circle, except in this case it all hapens in the same game
And then into an optimistic worldview
What in the hell....I thought the thumbnail was a joke taken from some R34 artists but it actually existed in the game...

I fucking love this. The game just stops doing its normal thing, then throws you into a seemingly joking dating sim.

Oh thank god they showed the positive side of nihilism. I was practically fuming at mirage.
Prolly not the first to think this, but... I wonder how this message of wholeheartedly embracing the unknown, to live to your full extent in spite of the looming void, is gonna play into the ending of the game. Fuck, I wonder if it's gonna play into Gabriel's narrative.
"can I get DDLC?"

Maybe I overextended myself but, yeah, it was refreshing to see something like this in a videogame for the first time for me.
i cant believe the fucking robot shooty game singlehandedly cured my nihilism
Hakita really just gave me an existential crisis, then cured it immediately after
The human mind, in its complete vastness, is capable of recognizing its utter helplessness and uselessness in the face of the inevitable and unavoidable activation of windows but is incapable of coming to terms with it.
Mirage: Life is pointless - everyone with die and all things will succumb to entropy.
Me: I can drink to that!

The human mind, in its complete vastness, is capable of recognizing its utter helplessness and uselessness in the face of the inevitable and unavoidable non-existence but is incapable of coming to terms with it.
The pause at the beginning and the head movements at the end have so much power behind them
You know the sad spider man gif of him walking through a battle field with his head down that just what 2-4 is like after that.
It's cool.

Questions:
1. Who is the person that we played in this secret scene?
Judging from the intro it mention that we " breathing", and through the "emotional fulfilled" mindset rather than Mirage's "logical denied" machine mindset, I could assume we are human, but I'm not very certain about this
2. Who is this Mirage?
Is she the V1 itself? Or embodiment of all war machine's mindset? Or even the God himself that was dissappear in the game?
1:
Idk human perhaps
2:Mirage is just like an alternate V1
Not much is explained tho but it’s looks like a version of V1 that really got into marketing
A DIFFERENT MARKETING

out of all things, ultrakill fucks with my feels
The fact that this being is part of the force that presumably made humanity go extinct (or at least wearing its visage) is honestly interesting, with how it talks about how maladapted humanity is.
my response to this "existential dread" is:
"so what?"
"what does that change?"
"boo-hoo my life doesnt matter"
"i dont care, it matters enough for me, my world matters for me, i dont care how insignificant it is"
"looking at everything like it doesnt matter is just stupid"
"you wouldnt exist if we had given up on life"
"thats why you just need to live how mother nature told you to do. stop caring about how insignificant your actions are, because they are significant now, and thats what matters"
