Painter's tape is awesome for this kind of marking, because it's less adhesive than masking tape, and designed to come off cleanly. I use it a lot for opera costumes to label names/scenes on costume pieces.

At 11:05 I felt that. Literally. I felt a deep grief in my stomach and heart for her and her family. I know how much rage I feel for Ruth Bader Ginsberg and I can't imagine what her family is going through. No matter what befalls our country, she will be honored as a driving force for positive change and a truly honorable woman.

Howl's Moving Castle is so exquisite, whimsical, funny, intelligent but also gentle as a story. The Miyazaki film is equally good but the two stories do diverge quite a bit. I find it doesn't bother me however that they have diverged, even though other books I dislike that.

Hello! Archivist here with an interest in the Victorian era. I don’t sew or costume, but I love learning about history through food, dress, etc, and after stumbling across the world of costube, I have major respect for all that goes into the creation of custom garments. When I’m not reading (currently making my way through the Wheel of Time series), I’m hiking in the woods of the eastern US or watching either the Lord of the Rings or a historical drama. I’m psyched that you’re sponsored by Acorn. I’m a big fan of the early 2000s Forsyte Saga miniseries, which was an Acorn Media production.

I am right there with you on RBG. When the announcement came I started crying and have cried each time she was eulogized by the Rabbi or others. Maybe you can have a caroling circle outside this year. We do that here if the temps are too cold. The neighbors love it. They don't participate but they do call if they think we aren't going to do it. They have gotten used to it. It seems to be a trigger for them that means it's definitely Christmas time. I am studying a course on how to have a successful business online. I'm going to start a support group online for people who have PTSD or have experienced a trauma that has impacted the way they live their lives now. I find that this is sorely lacking for people. I am determined to make this work. Thanks for taking us on the sewing journey!

And she has finally decided to join us here on the darkside -- er, I mean, she has decided that she wants to learn to sew. YAY! Also, my husband came through as I was watching you lay railroad ties, and he goes "Railroad Tracks! I like Railroad tracks! Look at that!" I occasionally reward his pro-sewing behavior with a pillowcase of some special flavor. I may have to take a deep breath and make him a train flavored one. I'm working on sewing my first 18th century shift! I'm a sewing newbie with a very limited budget, so up until now I've been working with knit fabrics that I salvaged from old t-shirts and for this project I finally bought linen fabric and thread, and beeswax--it's so good! The linen is certainly shifty, but I'll take it over stretchy knit and tangling unwaxed thread any day. It makes me super excited about future sewing projects once I save up to buy more supplies.
I'll be keeping an eye out for your buyers guides--not to buy gifts for others, but to assemble a wish list for myself. : )

I started watching Rachel Makesy and all of these other wonderful people started to pop up in my algorithm; you, Bernadette, Cathy, Morgan...there’s more but I have Swiss cheese brain. This year has been beyond trash for me. I’ve been hospitalized three times so far and this last time was for two months, none of it plague related. I only bring this up because I never watched RUclips before these things basically crippled me and getting to watch you, well, be you is so fun, uplifting, real...just all the things and I wanted to thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I haven’t sewed clothing since high school (I’m 40) but I want to. I crochet and quilt sporadically but I’m realizing that I’m happiest when I’m crafting/making so, yeah definitely doing that more now that I’m home. Also, Just Do The Thing merch would be awesome because that plays in my head every time I’m struggling with -insert whatever- and I would love to rep that to the world but also give your channel more exposure because you’re honestly the chatty friend we all need and wow this is really long, so I’ll stop now. Right now I'm seriously considering just throwing it under the machine and calling it a day, but I started this to learn and practice, not get anything quick or even wearable (it's slate green fabric and Butterfree purple thread, because leftovers). Probably gonna throw it in a corner for a day or two until I feel less resentful.

I am traveling for Christmas. My dad became incredibly ill, earlier this year, (not Covid) and nearly died. He’s been in Hospice care, since. Either by some miracle, or his sheer stubbornness, he’s still kicking. He was released from hospice on his 76th birthday, a couple of days ago. While his death is no longer an immediate threat, he’s not going to keep going indefinitely. This will most likely be his last Christmas. If we’ve somehow been granted one more Christmas with my parents, you can bet I’m going to take it. It’s the best gift I could have asked for.

Hello, I'm newly subscribed to your channel. I really enjoy watching you sew and learning from you. I've never done costuming (other than polar fleece Halloween costumes for my children. We live in MN.), but I love all the pretty dresses and am considering embarking on a project at some point. Normally I am a quilter when it comes to sewing.
I'm also a musician and public school teacher. What caught me in this Vlog was your comment on how difficult editing is! With the whole Covid thing, I've had to do much of my teaching online. In response, I've made lots of videos for both students and parents. I've even made an instructional video on how to sew a Mask for Brass Players! Granted, my attempts are trash compared to yours and I am awed by the amount of time and effort it takes to do this! It's not just editing, but lighting, getting the camera at an angle to best show your work, and trying not to look like I'm an old hag that has been alive since the 1850's.
So, thank you for your content. I appreciate your kind and thoughtful nature and adore your projects!
If I were to ask for something, it would be for any advice on coming up with easy hacks for the "casual" you tuber. I'm just a teacher trying to make some videos to help my parents and students on a shoestring budget. I have very little to zero fancy equipment. Who would have thought I would have EVER wanted to make you tube videos!?!?!??? Ok....truth be told, I still really don't, but I do want to reach my students and parents and have content that they are willing to watch and learn from.
Keep sewing and teaching in your own way! You rock!

This dress is going to be so fantastic when you are done. For some reason I have been making the kids watch my favorite sewing movies from the 90's. So far we've done The Three Musketeers, and Ever After. I haven't had much sewing foo lately, but I've rewritten 2 acts of my novel, and the annual spookification of my house is happening.

I'm a drama teacher from Ontario and I've been a sewist all my life. Clothes, quilts, costumes... I love 'em all. I have recently made myself a movie accurate Darth Vader costume which got me thinking... what would a Darth Vader bustle dress look like... hmmm. You have inspired me in many ways. Thank you!

Hi, I don't costume, but I do sew, right now I'm tackling a hugh pile of mending. I'm rereading the books about the town of Grantville West Virginia, and how they ended up in Germany during the 100 years war and what they did there. More than 20 books in and so far they have all been great. I recommend them highly.

I really like to listen/watch you as you AND I sew! My new project has been to hand stitch a whole quilt by hand - the way my ancestors did throughout the ages. I figured out the stitching first from watching Bernadette and then I found quilting RUclips videos and the stitching was the same! I had started hand sewing some triangles together, but realized I did the wrong stitch and had to start over. I have currently stitched over 1,150 triangles together into squares and am now turning them into stars! I have 8 stars made and only have another 72 to go! I have been able to make 2 stars a day - if my health (spoons) holds out. I'm just happy w what I can do each day! :)
I just finished an audible book called "A Place For Us". It was really good!
I am also in the middle of making a bazillion pinwheels (made out of triangles) w my Bernina sewing machine for another quilt top. I have a list of my pinwheels to do and as I said earlier - I do what can, but I try to sew for at least a hour most days.
I have fabric to make some more shifts for nightgowns, and covers for our odd sized pillow wedges and leg pillows for my bed comfort. My husband also wants me to make some sheets that will stay on our mattress without slipping off one side or the other!! :/
I have been enjoying lots of RUclips from all the wonderful costumers you and others have suggested!
I love how your Hogworts skirt turned out! It was totally worth your time w how it turned out! And YES! WE want to keep following you cause you are totally awesome! I love how welcoming you and everyone in the costuming world are! I feel like you are all my friends!
I'm sorry you have to deal w the smoke from the fires in your area. We had our mountain just out our back door on fire a few weeks ago! We were totally blessed to have a cold front roll in that night and the rain and SNOW!! stopped the worst of it. We were only a few blocks away from the evacuation zone, but all is well here now. :) (Except all the smoke we are getting as it rolls on by from the California fires!! ;)
Have a great week! Looking forward to more of your totally awesomeness!! :)

I'm knitting a hat while watching today! I love how your railroad tracks turned out and the whole skirt looks amazing!
The smoke is gone up here and we've been stuck under an "atmospheric river" for the past few days. Lots and lots of rain and wind. When I dropped my daughter off at school yesterday, it was already raining pretty hard but somehow managed to rain harder, I had a big umbrella and still managed to get quite wet. Thankfully I'd taken the car and was able to drive home slowly with wipers on full! It's cleared up for now and is warm-ish and sunny.
I've been planning on sewing a dress to wear for Thanksgiving in a cpl weeks. So far I've picked the pattern (the Mary Quant "Georgie" dress that the V&A had a pattern made for last year), taped the pattern together, found fabric (maybe a bit loud but I think 60s-ish looking for a vintage type dress) and it's currently in the dryer!

The fires are mostly in control around us, finally. The air was horrific there for a while! I'm mid 1890s walking skirt, it's almost done then ok to the next part of the project. We finally figured out a schedule that will allow me sewing time and my husband gaming time fairly while also spending time with our baby and as a family.
    The skirt looks amazing!!

I too am a cat allergic who has needy needy kitties
I find it helps to take meds before going out to face the day (never let the cats in where you sleep).
And then snuggle them to heck. Never let them near your face. Don't. Touch. The face. Doesn't matter how much cat hair you snort.
Then wash hands and face when cat is overstimulated n done.
Literally rinse and repeat. It's been working like a charm for me so far.

I saved this vlog for when I'm doing my hand sewing, so I'm kind of late. So funny, we had a reading exercise about that kissing stone thingy in school and I had major flashbacks about my teenage years during the video. I love how the tracks turned out, the color really pops on the black fabric and they just give that extra little touch to the overskirt. Currently I am working on a cape that is made out of an olive green plaid with a little bit of light brown and reddish-violet in it and lined with a beautiful burgundy colored fabric. I hope it turns out good because I love the fabrics I'm using and I'm so excited for this project for so long! Wish you a lovely week!

Thank you for your most enjoyable companionship while I wrestled 10 yards of black cotton fabric on the ironing board. It will be the flatlining and fabric for my 1907-ish Edwardian walking skirt and shirtwaist that comprise the recreation of my Grandmother & Great Aunt's Swiss boarding school uniform. I mentioned on my channel how much I like hanging out with you when you are sewing and wish it were possible to do in person. One of my very favorite things is to hang out while sewing. That must be why I love teaching sewing. (Butt brain--rofl and holding my sides)

As someone who lives in Las Vegas, I agree with hating Las Vegas! I've been working towards an early Edwardian outfit but only using materials I already have (which is broke college graduate language for old sheets and pillow cases). I love how the bustle dress is turning out.
Sort of intro? Hi, hello. I live in Las Vegas, I hate it, I hate the desert. I'm mainly into early Edwardian things right now but also really love the early 1880's.
