    Beautiful!! My natural hair is hip length , healthy ( no see through) and I only trim as needed with NO haircut since mofos like to get so scissor happy it gives you ptsd. I don't follow the European model of cosmetology of every 8-10 wks for a trim nor can you trust every hand in your hair! You did a fabulous job with big juicy curls which I love 😍

      Being a hairdresser myself for 38 years i am the exception to the rule in that i would rather have to recut the hair than cut it too short to begin with. I hate scissor happy hairdressers that always think they know what is best for you. You know when they cut your bra length hair up into a bob because that 's the latest trend, which is fine if a) you suit and b) you can take care of it when you come out of the hairdressers. Some hairdressers just go on their own sweet way quite often because you will need to go back week after week to get it dried into some sort of resemblence of order. Always cut less, you can easily take more off if the client thinks it's not short enough, you can't add back the real hair that you took off because you weren't listening and your client will come back because they are not afraid of you and your scissors. Hugs from Scotland

    I am so glad you didn't cut more of her hair. Some stylist who have cut way more when the didn't need to. I have seen so many stylist that just love to cut especially when they don't need it. That is why people with long hair don't like going to a lot of salons because so Many of them cut too much or too often when the hair don't need it. You are good.

      @@ColumbiaQT2001 Texture doesn’t give growth that’s a myth. ALL human hair textures including type for hair grow at the same rate more or less main differences being gender/diet or genetics. But Texture is NOT a factor in growth, however it’s easier for people with looser hair textures to RETAIN length because drier textures tend to be more fragile and she may have thicker individual hair strands. Let’s leave this “ good hair”/“soft grade” shenanigans in slavery where they belong.

    I’ve never seen the use of Bantu knots to prep the hair for blow drying and to dry the scalp. It seems like it might be easier for some of us home straighteners to do over roller sets or just blow drying starting from wet hair.

      And she will not need a trim in 3 weeks! One of the reasons we don’t see a lot of growth when we’re in the salon regularly is because they cut it off! Hair doesn’t grow evenly. Let it grow down with as little manipulation in styling as possible, then trim.

    Obviously not everyone can get away with not trimming their hair for 10 years despite all an extremely careful and healthy hair care regimen😭. Watch me be baldheaded after missing one of my quarterly trimming sessions, regardless of keeping my hair in medium twists (no extensions), wash & deep conditioning every 2 weeks, dry detangling with castor oil, keep scalp clean and unclogged, quarterly protein treatments, sleep with silk bonnet on, finger detangling, then use a wide tooth comb to take any remaining shed hairs, can’t win😭.

    For 10 years, her hair if growing the average would be about 60 inches or 5ft of hair. Her hair was breaking off or her anagen phase looks about 2-3ft. She has a looser texture than I do so I'm estimating by the length. My hair is 26inches and tailbone length(I'm 5'3) and got there in 2 years starting from about mid back length with doing search and destroy method so I don't do trims. Her hair looks fine, but there was a lot breakage still.

      Did you protect them? That's really what started my hair on its growth retention journey and I did it without realizing I was doing it lol. I had yet another bad hairdresser experience and decided to just put my hair up in a bun with a fake bun on top of it. I wore it that way for a year or so, always washing and deep conditioning my hair on a regular basis and keeping it well moisturized while it was up. One day my mom noticed that my own hair had grown enough that I didn't need the fake bun anymore and I've been wearing it that way ever since. I can go a year without a trim because I don't expose them and I make sure to keep them moisturized with a light jojoba/sunflower oil mixture, plus I don't manipulate my hair with too much washing or heat styling.

      @@DarlingNikki2 Just out of curiosity have you straightened your hair to see how your ends look. I don't manipulate my hair or apply heat all that much, either. But you can still get split ends, even from protective styles. And thinning ends aren't easy to spot on naturally curly hair.

      @@eventplanner461 Yes, I get my hair flat-ironed once every 4-5 weeks by my stylist. She has complimented me on my ends and I am consistent with making sure they are oiled and put away 99% of the time. I rarely wear my hair down (it's too much for me honestly but I don't want to cut it after so many years of setbacks to get to this point) but when I do (after I get it flat-ironed) I've had people think it was a wig or sew-in lol. When I wore it in a curly ponytail once one of my mom's coworkers made the comment on the ponytail matching my hair perfectly and my mom busted out laughing. I was just like, "Well, I hope so,"😄

      @@DarlingNikki2 Yeah I've gotten into the habit of oiling my ends regularly as well. I heard that helps to prevent single strand knots which is my biggest problem. Like my ends are even for the most part, but I'll get a lot of single strand knots which makes detangling a hassle. Im just glad I'm retaining length even after I trim my hair(I personally trim every 3months).

    Hi I have a question. it’s about how I never trim my hair and I’m 19 years old. So I just wanted to know if I go to a beauty shop would my ends become really short?

    If that's the case are trims/cuts needed/necessary as often as we are getting them?~

    • @DarlingNikki2
      @DarlingNikki2 4 года назад

      It's all so individual-based, but I do think that getting a trim every 4-6 weeks as some people are told to do is excessive unless you are trying to get rid of severe damage without a big chop or growing out a relaxer/hair color without a big chop. If your ends are being regularly dusted (just clipping stray split ends so they don't go up the rest of the hair shaft) then actual trims (what I consider 1/2 inch or more) are overkill. You really need to chart your average hair growth rate per month over at least a six month period and then make sure you aren't negating length retention by too many trims if long hair is the goal (along with healthy hair, too, of course).
