A heart attack at 51, I’m learning that too, so sad.😢. I saw him with McLaughlin in Montreal when he was maybe 25 years old, he could already play like that. I was a teenager at that time. Good memories
Molina watching him says everything. Loved Joey's music for years. He was the one who played with Miles, and got Jimmy's heritage on the instrument. Joey had everything: incredible bass lines, uncomparable melodic and be-bop solos, amazing technique and beautiful sounds.
Now that is music! Intro, body, break (chorus), body and improv. The feel is all there. For those stuck on modes and scales, music is an emotional and intellectual form of communication..time space notes and the heart....Few attain it. Even fewer if your trust is based on the mechanics of it..Creativty is a big key in all of it
Aside from Joey being totally unbelievable, in tuned into the drummer this time around and I was spinning in adrenaline. He really tuned in and made the best out of three pieces.
i watched a vid back in the day with a young Joey D in a trio set up with John Mclaughlin and Dennis Chambers it was superb, he had that Hammond humming, sad he left us too early.

What happened to such a down-to-Earth talented guy. I know not. I know he's Sorely missed. Surely people like him who bring innocent thrills to others with their talents must be in a better place than here. Sorely missed. 💌
I bet those present didn't know there was another keyboard prodigy standing right nearby - and that's Jesus Molino in the yellow! (before he lost a ton of weight).
:27 How the drummer resolved to go into a pseudo bossa /Latin, straight rythm after JD had established a swing feel up to that point is kind of mind boggling. Also possible he just wasn’t familiar w/ James Ingram either
Fantastic! He doesn't just play that organ. He drives it.
I cried at the end. The world misses Joey too much. He died too soon. God bless you Joey. RIP.
Well if practiced running as much as playing…
What happened to him???? How did he pass away?
@@maptrking I believe it was a heart attack. I also believe Joey smoked, and obviously wasn't in the best of shape.

Kemuel Roig and Jesus Molina just chillin’ in the background. Awesome
This is unbelievable someone can play like this. But he can! Beyond great.
I only started listening to Joey when I subscribed to XM. Enjoyed his show very much and was shocked to learn of his passing. Very talented man. RIP

About 30 years ago, I caught him locally with John McLaughlin & Dennis Chambers. Like his B3 isn’t otherworldly enough, he blows a decent horn, too
