We don't call it Jamaican apple because it's only found in Jamaica or because we think it's native to Jamaica. We refer to it as such because it's a main staple in our culture/diet. Just like Ackee or breadfruit. We also use it to differentiate between the "American" apple. It's also known as otaheite apple.
"Pommerac" is what that fruit is called in Trinidad. The name is derived from "Pomme Malac", which is the french name meaning...."Malayan Apple." And, yes, it is a tropical fruit found all over the Caribbean.

Hope you visited the National Gallery of Jamaica! I think you'd like it there...
Tats why most jamaican disporians move to gambia
Welcome to Jamaica. Jamaica is a beautiful Island. The best experience is the one that you accomplished. There are negativities attached to Many Countries around the globe. Jamaica is no different. I had visited many times and I had never had a bad experience. Their humour is amazing and so many talented people, past and present.
Amen 👌 🙏 ❤
So true… thanks for sharing
Trudy next time you go to Devon house get the Devon stout ice cream
You guys should have gotten run & raisin and Devon stout
Jamaica is NOT a beautiful island but it has the potential to become that.
I am learning so much about my country from people like you. Thank for promoting our beautiful country❤
Our pleasure!
Our pleasure!
Your blue mountain cabin is beautiful 😻. Enjoy Jamaica 🇯🇲
Thank you, I will
The African culture is still strong in jamaica especially in the parishes or country area, what u call the village ❤
Totally!
That's the entire Caribbean friend
Same in Dominica. We celebrate our African heritage annually.
Those apples are found all over the Caribbean. Every country has a different name for them.
Iwas thats true
We don't call it Jamaican apple because it's only found in Jamaica or because we think it's native to Jamaica. We refer to it as such because it's a main staple in our culture/diet. Just like Ackee or breadfruit. We also use it to differentiate between the "American" apple. It's also known as otaheite apple.
Really?! 😀
"Pommerac" is what that fruit is called in Trinidad.
The name is derived from "Pomme Malac", which is the french name meaning...."Malayan Apple."
And, yes, it is a tropical fruit found all over the Caribbean.
@@yaniekefranklyn8675 well said
I didn’t put Jamaica on top of my Caribbean country list to visit. But now after watching this, Jamaica here l come. It’s a must!
Thank you for your positive analysis and observations of our country and our people ❤❤❤❤
Most welcome ❤
You and Wode Maya have dispelled so many myths about Jamaica - the weed use, the violence.
We try to 😀
Ms. Trudy you’re looking amazing especially your hair. I’m enjoying your trip with you.
I am too🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thanks so much
I was waiting for so long to see your first impressions of Jamaica because its exactly like walking the streets of anywhere in Africa ❤
I have been patiently waiting to see Jamaica through your lenses gal. Happy I can now see Jamaica. Thanks Darling.
Hope you like it!
Why do Kenyans like to say "Gal". That's a bad word in Jamaica to use towards women.
@@eileenwatt8283yeah, I almost got offended when a lady from another country called me ‘gal’ lol then I stopped a quick second and realized, she wasn’t Jamaican, so she didn’t mean anything by it😅
She is from Kenya but has hate for her fellow Kenyans and getting the crab mentality. Hopefully she waits up and stop hating on her own people.
This place is so much like Kenya and East Africa. They have so much in common and resemble the people of East Africa. They also look like African Americans. Jamaica, the Diaspora, and African American Africa are one.
I have East African DNA along with Congo
Hi Miss Trudy. I’m so happy to see you and Maya in my Country, it’s a warm feeling to see you guys enjoying yourselves🙏🏾🇺🇸🇯🇲
Half way through the video and absolutely love it🇯🇲
You are here too and I see you almost everywhere on the RUclips streets!!!
Awwwwwwwww, thank you
If it is Thursday, folks are likely in their offices. Other sections of Kingston are likely busier than the waterfront at this time of day. For example, Half-Way-Tree, Cross Roads, Parade in Downtown
Madam Trudy you are amazing. I truly appreciate the way you are positively promoting Jamaica. Jamaica is paradise island and some people are envious of our natural resilience and artistic abilities, therefore they try to tarnish the image of Jamaica. We love you and Wodemaya.. ❤❤❤❤
wow these are two more of our African Family welcome ! ! We Jamaicans are Africans indeed through our Ancestors
I know, right?!
Trudy, I am African Amer. Will be in Jamaica for the 1st time in June.

I'll say again how happy I am to see you and Maya here, Miss Trudy. I love your comprehensive and intelligent analysis in this vlog, and I'm glad you wisely decided not to listen to, and rubber stamp all the negativity you have heard about my beautiful Jamaica. So glad you are enjoying the magical island of Jamaica of natural beauty. I would also recommend you visit Negril for a couple of days. 7 miles of golden beach and the water is crystal clear and WARM. Enjoy! And who’s your host?
Rum-Raisan is a classic Jamaican ice cream flavor. My wife's favorite.
Thats my favourite ice-cream flavour in the whole wide world. (funny because I don't drink alcohol but I am addicted to the flavour) also have you tried tim tam rum and raisin biscuits.

Jamaians have a different accent from Nigerians we speak patio and Nigerians speak pigeon and our accents are completely different Miss trudy , and it is strange because many of our Ancestors were Nigerian.
Oh by the way! Bless up WODE MAYA. I really don't remember if I subscribed to your channel but I remember watching you during the China days maybe like five years ago? Or is it like 10 years ago? All of Afro Jamaicans have significant amount of Ghanaian DNA, thats a fact, but the same can be said about having Nigeria, Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Gambia, Benin and Togo, etc. We are hybrids of these people
Yes! Thank you! And welcome
@laurieconway3834
You come from the Gulf of Guinea and all the Territories from Senegal to Namibia. Know that the Caribbean is populated by several souls coming from West Africa to the gateway to Southern Africa.
FYI Devon House : This property was once the home of Jamaica's first black millionaire, George Steibel. Dates back to the 1880's. I hope that you get a chance to tour the house.
