This is a fantastic video! I've been looking for a good video about tattoo apprenticeship portfolio's. I've seen quite a few on RUclips which wouldn't impress me if I was a tattoo artist looking for an apprentice. Yours looks incredibly solid and has given me a few ideas on how I could potentially restructure my own. I would love to get a critique from you if you have the time and inclination. If not I just appreciate you sharing your portfolio with us.
Congrats on your apprenticeship! Your portfolio is stunning! I'm thinking of getting an apprenticeship too.. but still unsure if tattooing is really for me. Would love if you could have an update video on being an apprentice, and perhaps talk about the pros & cons?
This was genuinely so helpful in getting a good sense of things to include in my own portfolio. The amount of times I thought, "OOH I WANT THAT ONE" was actually ridiculous
DAMN this is a rock solid portfolio. I never comment on videos but there were several pieces in this that had me like daaaaamn lol so I felt the need. Solid inspiration right there! Thanks!
Thankyou so much for this portfolio tour! i'm currently in the process of working on my Apprenticeship portfolio and I didn't know how to Go about formatting it or anything, So this is a beautiful example! All your pieces are beautiful!
This was super helpful. I’ve been into art and drawing for a long time and I’ve always liked tattoos but only recently started thinking about seriously becoming a tattoo artist and I had no idea where to begin. I’m going to have to do a lot of drawing for a portfolio though since my hard has never been tattoo focused and I’ve never even designed a tattoo! Time to get started on that then haha 💪
Cool Video! I like the idea with the sections for the different flash themes. My portfolio is now in the close to the end. 2020 I will search for my apprenticeship 😁 Your video will help a lot. Thank u!
Please credit the original artist for this drawing @2:52. Audra Auclair created the original design. Its totally ok to take inspiration from other artists, but copying it with little change to the original doesn't improve your own creativity or show your real talent. I'm not trying to be harsh, I hope you can understand why we should credit others people work!
hey there, I feel so bad that this ended up being so similar to someone else's artwork! that was never my intention and I had honestly not seen her work before reading your comic. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention and for giving me a new artist to follow!
Amazing, I love your mind those ideas you have are creative and hilarious! thank you for sharing, Im working on my portfolio and Id like to ask you if it's acceptable to trace realism (photographs of animals or people) and then modifying it with my own style and artistry? I find it hard to perfectly draw realism even though I have done it in oil paint- Like do you perfectly draw those images just by looking at a reference or do you use the transpher paper method?
Those were actually prints I had made to sell that I hung onto for the portfolio! I got them done through Shutterfly but you could just as easily do Walgreens or something like that!
HMSNEAKERZ I’m 22 now, and I was 20 almost 21 when I started. You’re never too old to start living the life you want! We have three people just at my shop who didn’t apprentice until they were in their late 30s!
I’m finally going to build a portfolio but sooo much of my recent work is digital on an I pad, or really cartoony canvas acrylic painting. Would you recommend a variety like you did?
Life with me: Jessie Marie go for physical over digital. it’s too easy to touch up digital artwork, it doesn’t truly reflect artistic ability. physical art doesn’t lie, make a mistake with ink, paint, charcoal or some other medium? well ya best be talented enough to mask it, or have the patience to start again. once you’re ball deep in your apprenticeship and finally pick up a machine when your mentor thinks you’re ready, you can’t choose special brushes or an eraser to get rid of your mistakes
That flower girl with the crow at looks a whole lot like at 2:54 that you drew for yourself looks a whole lot like an Audra Auclair illustration... like you traced it and removed an eye from a crow, a tag and the moon from her face... if you referenced it maybe make a mention of it because it's kinda gross to have something that looks darn well traced and not at least mention the original artist... I think you git rad skills... but integrity only makes you look better dude.
Best apprenticeship portfolio I’ve seen by far on RUclips. Great job. I feel inspired.
This makes me wanna burn my portfolio 😂 amazing work!

I loveee this!! It really helps me rethink my own portfolio and I love how you separated the ideas with labels and themes with script!!
DAMN this is a rock solid portfolio. I never comment on videos but there were several pieces in this that had me like daaaaamn lol so I felt the need. Solid inspiration right there! Thanks!

Amazing work!!!
Congratulations nice portfolio
this is awesome!!!! what kind of pens did you use??
Nice vid, awesome portfolio! How long did it take to put this portfolio together, did you set goals for yourself say 1 drawing a day?
How did you get the cut outs to stay on the page? Did you glue or tape them? Or something else? Lemme know or someone else can give me suggestions?
Did you phone/email the shop first before you went in to show them your portfolio or did you just go in and ask to speak to someone?
I saw supernatural and I couldn't breathe for a moment.. Sister had to ask if I was okay. #spn4life

Woww this was inspiring!
How did you print your digital work im trying to make a portfolio for an apprenticeship and most of my work is digital 😭
Those were actually prints I had made to sell that I hung onto for the portfolio! I got them done through Shutterfly but you could just as easily do Walgreens or something like that!
Wowza...
So hows your apprenticing going?
Can I ask how old you are I feel I may be too old to start looking for an apprenticeship
HMSNEAKERZ I’m 22 now, and I was 20 almost 21 when I started. You’re never too old to start living the life you want! We have three people just at my shop who didn’t apprentice until they were in their late 30s!
