    I liken this battle to a b-boy battle between a power-head (ISP) and a footwork/style-head (X-Men).
    If you go for the super-technical rapid-fire scratches you'll probably say ISP won.
    If you go for the body-tricks, beat juggling and cutting the records to diss the other DJ you'll probably say X-Men won.
    Either/or, this was a dope fucking battle.

  • @youbobz
    @youbobz 13 лет назад +3

    there would only be able to be a comparison between these two styles were they exactly the same. this is the perfect examples of the two hybrid strains of turntablism, both including body tricks, skratching, mixing and juggling. all of those are shown here but shown in different strengths amongst the two crews. our perspective now is based on what has occurred since. those and i who saw this video in the 90s and back then we understood all men on stage as on the avant garde of the art form

    Thats whats up. I started back in 87 spinning alot of freestyle and then got into the house,hip hop and r&b. Then mastered salsa,merengue,reggae,soca and bachata. I do alot of lounges in NYC on fridays and saturdays and you have to know how to do it all. It was DJ TLM that inspired me to get into some turntablism and incorporate it into my sets to enhance them some more. I love this shit but you know it's not for the clubs. Check DJ TLM out,nice combo of turntablism,blending and party rockin.

    My favorite thing about this video is Q-bert proving that he could have been a pretty good beat juggler if he put his mind to it. Alot of people peg dude as "just" a scratch cat, but he's really just an incredibly talented musician who chose to focus on scratching.
    X-Men won this joint though.

    East coast bias? Never that homey. During the whole east coast west coast shit during the 90's I was the only one out of my team that was like that west coast shit is fucjin hot. You're entitled to your opinion as I am. And I feel raida cleaned they're asses up real good. And Total eclipse demolished Babu when they went head to head. And I'm a big time Babu fan!!!

    Listen to the juggles homey. There just as complex as anything the isp did and you may not like it but this is a battle and body tricks are a part of it. And I have to correct myself. When I said Craze was one of the first I meant Cash Money. And show me one vid that q is doing other than scratching. His juggles aren't anything special, his scratching is what makes him who he is.

Grew up spinning house music and freestyle(Puerto rican here), Thats why you heard me drop those names cause thats what I came up on. As far as hip hop my knowledge is no where as extensive as yours but I know enough cause i love it and still play it. just got into the beat juggling shit. Always knew how to scratch though. But like q said. RAIDA CANT CSRATCH. And there battle ing international SCRATCH pickles. ISP starts by murdering xmen with 1 turntable and nothing but new style turntablism. Don't get me worm XMEN AR FOR REAL LEGENDS. THIS IS AN OLD VIDEO and they all have come a very long way. LEAGENDY. but ISP gave xmen a lesson. Nice 80's style body tricks. Rob swift definitely most progressive. At this timeRIP ROC (the bruce lee of tricks)this is talent VS show. ISP talent kills. Come on. Both Q"s sets are unbelievably insane for now let alone what 20 years ago That why he is the best

      ISP LOOK DATED in 2015 ! thats my point !! scratching?? a million to one... how many DJ's today can rock two 12" hip hop records... flip them to death,, i can count on my finger !! .. however a DJ gotta be able to rock 2 records .. ISP, scratch scratch and more scratch,, hip hop is HEDNOD, CRISPY BEATS,, & CULTURE... ...original hip hop style x2 records,,, flash, herc jay 1978 & beyond !

    Got to remember Q got in the accident so he could not do as many or close to no body tricks any more that way i think ISP one this one because the skill that mike and Q and shortcut brought is a little more technical then what X-men brought in this battle. yes X-men bring a lot of mean body tricks and cuts when they did but give it up for Q mixing Roc the bells with just fader and scratch all though all deejays know that a song meant for body tricks

    it comes down to i.s.p bringing new unseen/heard stuff to this battle that blew everyones fuckin mind. whether x-men appreciated it or hated on it, either way it was something that boggled their minds because none of them could fathom that someone out west was taking shit to the next level & was done with beat jugglng with body tricks & letting records play for words to dis the other dj &/or crew. - I.S.P. could do all that x-men were doing - the other way around? ...not so

  • @stillceaser
    @stillceaser 12 лет назад +1

    I'm hearing a lot of dumb comments on here. The general consensus back then was that, novel as the body tricks were, the Piklz were just so far ahead in innovating new techniques. I saw Q doing juggles as technically competent as the X-Mens' two years before this battle. The body tricks had already been done to death. The Piklz were something special, no-one came close.

    shortkuts juggles had roc beat by a mile. mike and Q's scratch was more than enough to take care of the xmens basic jugglin. The picklez always beat them making the decision unanimous. I'm guessing your from the east coast and youre giving roc the nod cause dude just passed away (r.i.p. roc!)
