Amazing that Raida was doing that "Good Times/Bounce, Rock, Skate" juggle back in 1991...crazy innovative. Also, U gotta respect that Supreme is STILL out there battling today, 22 years later...
OMG!!!! I didn't know that the GM Roc Raida first round routines were so..old!..The man was light years away from Supreme (and everybody else at that time i guess)..At the end of the video no one (GMRR, Supreme & the anouncer) seems to believe the result, hahaha!!!! Maximum respect to GM Roc Raida, one of the greatest turntablists ever and a very nice and humble person, RIP. Many thanks Rob Swift for giving us all this incredible material..Respect from Greece!
RIP to the legend Roc Raida, truly ahead of his time... Supreme was quick with his hands. taught me to never use headphones in the crib unless recording a mixtape. i remember after he would give tables a break n let me get on he'd be moving so fast after, trying putting records back in the sleeves like he was still on tables going back n forth or something lol. it was like somebody on edge or speed, something lol it was crazy to see. he didnt even have a dj name at time but had all those routines. i know he moved by 1990 to bk so it was a blessing or he wouldnt of been discovered to even be in a competition like that. He played the run dmc runs house song, dude played apart that went "My House... when i say who's house i want you to say", (he cross fade to table 2) My house... when i say whos house" then took the other record off the turntable put it around his back and back on the turntable dropped the needle in place and on cue switched the fader and it said "my house". i seen plenty of crazy shit from him but that was the illiest. idk if he ever did that in a competition but that was dopest shit i seen at the time. That and having the foresight to have his electrician dad (RIP Woody) build a phono line switch on his mixer before they even sold them like that to my knowledge at least. i was 13 or so i wasnt checking out equipment when we took those trips to music factory or downstairs records which if im not mistaken was upstairs lol. That would make sense since that he saw it a store somewhere. i only bought records my equipment was hand me downs. he had 1200s then upgraded to the black 1210s and so on and i had my uncles hand me down technic sld1's lol it was a curve arm so i was good with a nickel taped to top of cartridge. Memories...
Awesome battle. Supreme did some slick routines in both sets. Supreme 's tricks were what most good dj's were doing at the time, but a bit better. Raida sets were more clever, methodical, and probably too technical for it's time. Raida then was ahead of his time.
Superior skill by Raida. I had no idea he busted the Good Times/Bounce Rock set back in 91. Way ahead of the curve. First time I heard that was on his Stuck In The Past mixtape that I believe I bought in 96. I miss him.
dude ever dj had 7 copies of those records. rappers delight too. those were one of the most hand me down record u could get. every uncle aunty had a copy in they collection which we ended up with eventually. everyone practiced to those. whether u had a routine with it in 91 still is a different story.
it's the first time i see you answer questions like that. lol : ) btw i did my homework since i asked you a similar question. big up Rob for you and all your efforts!
Dopest routine of this whole battle was Raida's 1st "Goin Back to Cali" set... crushes anything the other dude did. This was the pinnacle of Supreme's skills... he never progressed from here. Supreme seems like one of those DJ's that begs to get on your set and never wants to get off...
DJ GaFFLe LMAO! yeah you're right bout supreme but you have to love his heart spending 14+ yrs trying to win a world title. Finally 2014 a regional. So persistence does pay off.
That routine is looking absolutely the same though, year-after-year. DJ Craze was a journeyman trooper and elevated his skills to world conquering levels. At some point, you gotta let go.chris allistar
DJ GaFFLe Agreed homie! Dj Craze is one of my all time fav's too.Sorry bad math 24 yrs on supreme. As for letting go I long retired just like looking back.Giving respect where its due.
At least Supreme has respect for Roc Raida you should blame the judges for raida not winning. I think Supreme is a beast honestly. Not better than raida but he's pretty dam good
This is fire. I feel like our generation of DJs are slow and not so much into showmanship of the kind displayed here. Great view, I will try to push my self more. :)
Love the whole attitude of these battles compared with continued with the whole DMC stuff. More upfront, raw, and intimate. People understood the music, loved the characters, and the whole scene still.
Supreme is so wack. Still doing the same patterns in 2014. Didn't deserve to win this battle AT ALL. He got lucky that all the judges were in the supermen crew.
***** Raida, BY FAR, had the dopest routines PLUS he played to the crowd and his opponent. Supreme just stared at his TT's the whole damn time, had no rhythm, no flavor, and had the nerve to leave the set early so Raida couldn't stare him down and play him out.
+Tommy Tench Wack? Most DJ's are still doing the same signature scratches and routines today, it''s their trademark. Just listen to JJeff , Cash or even Qbert. I think Supreme sounded better here regardless to whether he still uses those techniques. Raida had more 'swing' and showmanship.
maccagrabme.........Raida more ? RIP sorry I see the X men like ABDC see Jabbawakkies, as ONE.They share routines and techniques like wu tang or Voltron. Not fair to seperate him.
I agree. Raida should of won this battle. Let me preface what I'm about to say by saying I got nothing but love and the utmost respect for Clark Kent, a legendary hip hop DJ and producer. That being said. The name of the battle was THE CLARK KENT BATTLE FOR WOLD SUPREMACY and DJ Supreme was Clark Kent's protege. DJ Scratch and DJ Ritchie Rich, both members of the Supermen were judges too by the way. So...
i was there ..was the china club..it was soo loud...supreme's set sounded amazing..it wasnt as good as raiders but it fooled the crowd..i remember thinking it would be close
YOOOOO!!!!!! 1:47.....I see what Supreme tried to do! Man! Had he pulled that off the way I THINK he had intended to that would have been so dope and innovative for body tricks even by today's standards. That was dope!
i was his neighbor back then he use to do that and more. tables wabble the crowd its not as easy as u may think when hundreds creaming lol idk. i was a mixer he was the scratcher. witnessed some amazing shit back then.
He hit the on/off switch! Really easy to do when attempting that move on older 1210s. You can just about see when he spots it and frantically switches it back on! Great recovery! A lot of these body tricks are stupidly risky. RR skipped loads of times at the DMC but still won!
Don't know if u read your comments but i have a copy of Roc vs Shake 1991 As1 productions in that High school wit that going back to cali routine clean. also have the next yr when u did that public enemy no.1 over the bridge routine. CLASSIC SHIT FAM. rip Roc Raida
Watching this again Supreme took this...first round he got a lil sloppy towards the end but the 2nd round cuts with LL Cool J was dope af. RIP to Raida. We got to see the start of the The Good times/Bounce rock juggle. Classic Battle
I never seen a video with the great late Grand Master Rock Raider lose I guess after that battle he said no more I'm going to be the baddest fastest mofo on the ones and two he still my and DJ around the world idle #Str8Fax..🎛💥
How did Roc Raida lose? He won the 1st round easily. The 2nd round Supreme brought it harder than his first set and but Roc was easier more complex and made it look effortless and the crowd was even cheering during his beat juggle early. Roc won this easily. R.I.P. Roc Raida
Supreme won cus he was Crazy, straight out the mental hospital. with them socks and the propellor hat. he def had a better bounce, but Roc showed way more skill. but it's early 90s, so the crowd and a lil favoritism played a part in outcome. i was suppose to watch that show, but Moms wasn't havin me take train there from Boston at 13.

Wow! Raida was a BEAST back then
How did Raida lose that......

You're welcome my dude.
Thanks so much for sharing this. Makes me wanna watch all the old NMS battles on VHS with Shortkut, Noize and Mixmaster Mike
Superior skill by Raida. I had no idea he busted the Good Times/Bounce Rock set back in 91. Way ahead of the curve. First time I heard that was on his Stuck In The Past mixtape that I believe I bought in 96. I miss him.

At least Supreme has respect for Roc Raida you should blame the judges for raida not winning. I think Supreme is a beast honestly. Not better than raida but he's pretty dam good
So dope!

***** True but don't dog the supermen because there wouldn't be an X men without them. It's DJ MIZ that changed the game with juggles.
***** That wasn't judge error.Back then if your needles skipped you might as well pack up and go because you won't win.

I wonder has anyone ever suggested the idea of a movie about Raida. I've heard much worst ideas, I'm just sayin.
Don't know if u read your comments but i have a copy of Roc vs Shake 1991 As1 productions in that High school wit that going back to cali routine clean. also have the next yr when u did that public enemy no.1 over the bridge routine. CLASSIC SHIT FAM. rip Roc Raida

Supreme smacked Raida on the left arm.
supreme knew he loss, he just bounced like fuck it. raida too great! r.i.p
Guess the 08:48 Stinky Sock Technique didn't do it for the judges. 🤥

Nice!🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨🚨
How did Roc Raida lose? He won the 1st round easily. The 2nd round Supreme brought it harder than his first set and but Roc was easier more complex and made it look effortless and the crowd was even cheering during his beat juggle early. Roc won this easily. R.I.P. Roc Raida

Roc Raida was dope asf but Supreme was a dog in this battle
only one DJ Supreme, from Hijack The Terrorist Group!
ROC RAÏDA WIN IWI🎵
Great Battle but now I see it was politics because Raida won that shit by a long shot 💯💯💯
Supreme won cus he was Crazy, straight out the mental hospital. with them socks and the propellor hat.
he def had a better bounce,
but Roc showed way more skill.
but it's early 90s, so the crowd and a lil favoritism played a part in outcome.
i was suppose to watch that show, but Moms wasn't havin me take train there from Boston at 13.
BS.......Raida won............however the second routine maybe in the judges eyes was not like the first. However its BS.
Supreme sloppy..
Supreme sucks!
Roc raida was head of his time and how tf Supreme won Neva mind
